Vegetarians eat food for protein!. Plain and simple!. If you believe that protein is the end all be all of nutrients and that meat is the end all be all of protein sources, you've been duped by the agribusiness lobbies!.
Protein is the building block of life, meaning everything that was once alive, including plants, is made up of protein!. Veg*ns get their protein by eating a balanced diet that includes soybeans and soy foods (tofu, tempeh, edamame, faux meats,) beans and other legumes (lentils, peas, peanuts, chickpeas,) whole grains, nuts, seeds, vegetables, mushrooms and even fruit!. Vegans get plenty from plants alone, but vegetarians also get some from dairy products and eggs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The human body doesn't actually require protein, it requires amino acids!. When you eat meat, your body slows down all other systems in order to break the flesh down into aminos, so that they might be assimilated then built into protein!.
Of the amino acids required to built protein, your body makes a majority of them by recycling dead tissues!. The ones that cannot be synthesized are readily available in beans, peas, lentils, leafy greens, potatoes, grains!.!.!. in other words, virtually every whole food!.
Don't eat a lot of processed crap, and you'll be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dark green, leafy veggies!. Beans, Vegetarian "meat" (I usually go with organic "meat" products, just because it's healthier), tofu ^_^, nuts, egg whites, peanutbutter (I get the All Natural kind, because it's healthier and doesn't have junk in it like Jiff does), and Soy products!. There's lots of other stuff to get protein from, too!.

You know, people make it sound much harder than it is to get protein!. As long as you like one of the following: cheese, nuts, peanut/almon/cashew butter, beans, or eggs, you'll be okay!. Don't worry about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Beans, Peanut-Butter, Tofu!. [I love tofu!!] It's really not too bad when you cook it right, and it is basically flavorless when raw!. So spice it up and order some fried tofu [bean-curd] from a Chinese restaurant! :DWww@FoodAQ@Com
