As a veg head, I HATE when people claim to be vegetarian and eat fish, it really confuses the general public so now a lot of people try to feed me fish and sometimes chicken!.
Fish is an animal, and thus they are NOT vegetarian!
People that only eat fish are called pescetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products!. The reasons for choosing vegetarianism may be related to morality, religion, culture, ethics, aesthetics, environment, society, economy, politics, taste, or health!.
There are several variants of the diet, some of which also exclude eggs and/or some products produced from animal labor such as dairy products and honey!. Veganism, for example, excludes all animal products from diet!. By some strict definitions, animal products are not used for attire either, whether or not the production of clothing or items has directly involved the actual death of an animal (dairy, eggs, honey, wool, silk, down feathers, etc!.) A generic term for both vegetarianism and veganism, as well as for similar diets, is "Plant-based diets"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am vegan and I eat seafood--but NOT any sea animals!. Seaweed is seafood!. :-) I know that's not what you're talking about, but I want to hype up seaweed!. It's nutrient dense and gives a fishy flavor that a confused vegetarian (one who is on the fence about eating fish) might like!. Veg*ns can still have sushi, as long as there is not any meat (fish, crustacean, etc) inside!. Avocados, cucumbers, and mushrooms make good filling for veggie sushi!. also, miso soup with lots of wakame and dulse!. YUM!
I'm going to have (vegan) seafood right now!
But as you pointed out, commercial fisheries aren't just catching fish in a kindly manner (if that's possible)!. When I was an ovo-lacto vegetarian I NEVER ate fish!. Fish are animals and have sentience!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I eat fish, but not other meats, and I am fully aware that that does not make me a vegetarian!. On the other hand, I tell people that I am a vegetarian because the majority of people do not know what a pescetarian is, and so if I am asked whether I am a vegetarian I say yes, so that they do not give me any 'land animal' meat!. People often confront me, and say that, "I'm not a proper vegetarian", and I agree with them, and tell them that I am a pescetarian, and every person I have told this to has never heard the word before!. By the way, the reason that I am a vegetarian/pescetarian is not for animal rights reason, but because I was raised that way, and generally, I consider it to be healthier not to eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
White Shooting Star of HK, you are a moron!. people that are vegetarian/ vegan are among the most healthy people alive!. not all are skinny/ bony( that has to do if they starve their selves or it's genetics), a lot are a healthy average size!. we get plenty of DIFFERENT protein in all the food we eat!. our bodies are among the healthiest because we are not putting foreign toxins in our bodies!.
but, to answer the real question, vegetarians do not eat and type of seafood!. Fish is Flesh!. and you are right about the cruelty, it doesn't matter how they are caught, what matters is that they are taken out of their natural habitat for food!. and thats it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People who eat seafood but no other meats are not really vegetarians!. Wikipedia classifies this type of person as a "Semi-Vegetarian"!. They are specifically called "Pescetarian"!. However, don't let other people try to fool you!. Pescetarians are in no way, shape or form, vegetarians!.

A true vegetarian/vegan wouldn't, no!. You are correct in that the process is cruel towards animals, furthermore, overfishing is rapidly causing a loss of species like trout and salmon in the ocean which will eventually affect the oceanic ecosystem as a whole!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
