Answers:
Your doctor is uninformed about nutrition!. The American Dietetic Association is one of the nation's leading nutrition experts and it supports vegetarian diets for all ages!.

"Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence!."
http://www!.eatright!.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada!.!.!.

I would see a nutritionist who can tell you what to eat to have a healthy vegetarian diet!.

Oh, and to answer your question!.!. there isn't a special name for your diet!. You could explain that you're an omnivore who only eats chicken!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A vegetarian diet may be suitable for all ages, but vegan at your age while you are growing is tricky!. It can probably be done, but will your parents be able to spend the extra time and money to do it!?

What is your weight and your level of activity!? If you are active it may be a good idea to have animal protein to help build muscle and give you some energy!.

Do you not eat eggs and dairy because you don't like them or because you are morally opposed (or allergic)!? I wonder if you might be able to stop eating chicken if you re-introduced these foods!. In India a vegetarian diet can still have eggs and dairy!.

I agree with your doc that it's prudent to have a source of animal protein in your diet!. But if you are really set on not having it, talk to your folks about working with a nutritionist to help you design a diet that will support your needs as a growing young woman!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you still eat chicken, you can call yourself almost vegetarian or mostly vegetarian!. People who eat no animal foods except dairy products and eggs are vegetarians, and people who eat no animal foods at all are vegans!.

Your doctor is incorrect!. You can still grow properly if you get enough protein and fats from other sources!.

However, it IS dangerous to cut out all animal foods from your diet if you don't understand vegan nutrition thoroughly! In fact if you eat no animal based foods at all and you don't take vitamin B 12 supplement, you can do permanent damage to your nerves! Iron is another big issue that you need to understand!.

I highly recommend that you at least include some dairy products and eggs in your diet, and if you're mensturating yet, take a daily iron suppliment- because women's period makes us lose iron, and unless you really know a lot about what foods to eat, it's hard to get enough without red meat!. Another issue is that kids under 18, because they're still growing, need more fat in their diets then adults, and again you really need to know your stuff to get enough from a vegan diet!. also you need to know how to get enough protein!.

It would really be safer for you to have at least some animal protien, like dairy and eggs, or a bit of chicken, in your diet at least until you're older and finished growing, and you have done lots of reading about vegan nutrition!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You would still be considered an Omnivore!. I was the same way as you just a few years ago before I became a vegetarian!. The only meat I ate was chicken and I was still considered an omnivore!. I applaud you on your decision to cut out a lot of that bad stuff from your diet!. How old are you!? Why does your doc think that you will not grow if you don't eat meat!? Do you have any underlying medical conditions!? Maybe get a second opinion from another doctor who can suggest a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet that would suit all your needs!. But don't do this with out your doctors consent or your parents consent if you are underage!. Hope it works out for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

While I was transfering to vegetarianism I considered myself a semi-veg!.

If this is a lifestyle choice you are wanting to make, I would consider finding a more supporting doc!. In a world of childhood obesity, diabetes, heart conditions, cancer, etc!. the veg diet is nothing to scoff at!.

Doctors are not nutritionists! You have internet, do your research!. You DO NOT need animal protein to grow properly!. Protein, yes!. ANIMAL protein, no!.

Seriously, do your research!. Take an hour or two and read!. You will be able to make more educated decisions, and tell your doc your findings!.

Good luck semi veg!Www@FoodAQ@Com

An omnivore!.

Your doctor is ignorant if he thinks you must eat animal flesh to grow properly!. Doctors typically get no more than a few hours of nutritional training in all of med school, so they are not a reliable source of nutritional advice!. You do not need chicken for anything!.

The American Dietetic Assocation, the nation's nutritional watchdog, has issued a position paper declaring that properly planned vegetarian and vegan diets are appropriate for all life stages, from pregnancy and lactation through infancy, childhood and adolescence!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some people in your situation call themselves "pollo-vegetarians!." I think it makes more sense to call yourself a person who eats chicken but not red meat, if that is what you choose to do!
and as stated before, your doctor is being somewhere between overly conservative and stupid in telling you it's necessary to eat bird meat to grow properly -- there are plenty of veggie foods out there that would give you the proper protein and amino acids for growth and health!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why do you need to "call yourself" anything other than your name!?

Either you have an ignorant doctor, or he's getting pay offs from Tyson chicken or you're making up this story!. I'm married to a dietitian and that part about "I cannot grow properly if I stop eating all meat" isn't true!. There are several people in my wife's family who have never eaten meat and there's nothing wrong with them!.

The American Dietetic Association states "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence!."

I have been a vegetarian since I was very young!.

A vegetarian diet is suitable for ALL ages!. Listen to Orange's good information!.

If you eat chicken you are an omnivore!.
Don't feel like you need to label yourself as a vegetarian!.

(You are not a carnivore- you don't live on meat alone! So you are an omnivore)

: )Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're kidding right!? You don't have to eat meat! There are plenty of children that are vegetarians that grow healthy and normally!. Ask your doctor if you can replace the chicken with stuff like tofu and soy products, which is JUST as healthy!.

There's no word for what you're doing, you're still a meat-eater!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can call yourself by your given name because there is no special designation for your diet!. You're just a meat eater who eats no animal flesh except chicken, and that's kind of a long name!.

BTW_is your doctor under the age of 70!? He sounds outdated!.

Sai--not even close!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why label yourself!? Eat what you want or need!. Eating a particular diet doesn't make you superior or inferior!. It is in the nature of humans to eat both meat and vegetables!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are an omnivore -- an organism that eats a wide variety of foods, including at least some foods or animal origin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are still a Carnivore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

very simple!.!.a pollovegan!.!.!.since you dont eat dairy!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You probably could still grow normal, get another docs oppinion!. I only eat chicken turkey, dairy, and fruits and veggies!. I call my self a 1/2 Vegetarian! : PWww@FoodAQ@Com
