What do Vegetarian/Vegan people think of getting tattoos?!

Question: What do Vegetarian/Vegan people think of getting tattoos!?
and Is there a tattoo that stands for being v/v!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
If you want one, go for it!. There's even tattoo shops that are all about being vegan (vegan owned, operated, etc)!. I have read somewhere that ink or other parts of the tattooing process or equipment used might have animal ingredients, so you might want to check on that before you pick a place!.

Make sure you really think about it!.

Thirty years from now your skin will be in places you didn't think about!. The little daisy with a V in it that says Vegan might come out looking like a stop sign!. The word Vegan running up and down your side might end up looking like something out of a fun house mirror after a few pregnancies or just from getting older, heavier, a little stooped over maybe!.

Plus, it has to be something you don't feel annoyed about explaining - every time you're at the beach, in a public changing room, wearing something revealing, you'll get "what does that mean!?" or "why are you vegan!?" etc!. You might end up having to explain or reason or defend being vegan more because it'll literally be a label on you that says what you are!. There's still a lot of discrimination right now, people come into this forum all the time and just answer "I hate vegetarians, they're all preachy, vegetarians are all such-and-such"!. You kind of open yourself up more to those types!.

I have a lot of tattooed friends and they're 50/50 - some regret them and some don't!. Most of them regret the place they got their tattoos!. Really consider where you want it to be, because people in our society still judge you because of tattoos!.

I don't have any tattoos yet, I think if I get one it'll have to be for something that is extremely meaningful - maybe to honor somebody or to represent a hardship or something very important to me!. Like a coworker of mine has a tattoo of his daughter's name (the daughter died in infancy from some rare birth defect)!. Or when a cancer survivor tattoos the area that they had a tumor or breast removed or something!.

I don't really know if I would want to have just any old thing, or a label that defines me!. Having something on your body for the rest of your life needs some actual thought!.

Anyway, if you have already somewhat made up your mind, there's tons of pictures online!. There's galleries of tattoos that you can browse through; there's a lot of resources to find vegan-related things you can tattoo on yourself too!.

If you do a Google Image search for "tattoo vegan" you get tons of images!. Just a suggestion, put on the adult filter so that you don't see some of the garbage that comes up, LOL!.

These are some I found:

Like all of the other questions that start with "What do veg*ns think of!.!.!." there is no answer to this question that could possibly represent the entirety of the veg*n community!. We are individuals and we hold individual opinions on a wide variety of subjects!.

I happen to be a tattooed vegan!. I got my three tattoos as a vegetarian and didn't give any thought to whether or not the ink was vegan!. If I get another, I will specify vegan ink!. I think, at it's best, tattoo is an art form (of course, some tattoos suck!.)

I've seen several tattoos that were meant to signify that the bearer was veg*n!. I've seen people with the Vegan Society's V/sunflower symbol, people with PeTA's rabbit symbol, people with the word 'vegan,' and people with less direct ones (one guy who posts on a vegan forum I belong to has a sleeve in progress that is all vegetables!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm sure there is no standard thought on the subject of tattoos in the community!. What I can say as a vegan with two tattoos that in retrospect I wish I did not get them!.

Most people get tattoos when they are younger and think it cool!. What they fail to realize this is a relatively permanent act!. I compare it akin to wearing the same clothes every day!.

After a while I really stopped noticing them there much!. But at the same time I would like to be clean of them!. I guess I have come to accept myself for who I am and need no other external displays to validate myself nor vie for the attention of others!.

Some people would disagree with me but I consider it to be a minor form of mutilation!. It is unnecessary and quite frankly a little vain!.

My recommendation is to wait a few years and still see if you want them or at least get the tattoo put on in temporary ink and if you still like it before it fades away you can always ink it in again!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I imagine that there is a diverse range of views amongst vegetarians/ vegans on tattoos!.

Is there any reason in particular that you think vegetarians/ vegans would be of one mind on this subject!?

My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she has two tattoos!. So I can say for certain that at least one vegetarian like them!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was thinking of getting one on my lower back!.!.!.but I also heard that many types of ink have animal products in them!. Along those lines, I read that many hard-core tattoo artists won't use plant-based ink b/c they tend to fade faster than the other type of ink!. But there are some that are veg-friendly! It's just a matter of finding a place that does it!.

I am not so sure that there is a specific symbol that stands for being a vegetarian!.!.!.!.that's a great question!. A symbol would be much cooler than a phrase, no!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Interesting you mention it!.!.!. I'm getting a vegan tattoo this summer!

There are several images that symbolize veg*nism (the vegan society image, the rabbit surrounded by stars, the green "v" on the hand), but I think it's all about the individual!.

If this is something you plan to do yourself, PLEASE make sure the ink your artist uses is vegan!.

Personally, I LOVE tattoos!. I have a rose on my belly that was done when I was 19, I've got an artist friend of mine sketching my vegan tattoo this week, and I'm planning a sleeve tattoo to cover 3/4 of my left arm as a gift to myself for my 30th birthday!.

Tattoo can be as beautiful (or not) as the imagination will allow, and I respect them as personal forms of artful expression!. I respectfully disagree with L!.O!.T!. - I don't see tattoo as vanity any more than is wearing lip gloss or matching socks or a wedding ring!.

i'm a vegetarian and i've got a fair bit of ink!.

a LOT of straight edge vegans around where i live also get tattoos to show that they're sXe / vegan!. I personally have "Drug Free" tattooed on the insides of my fingers!.

It's up to the person wether they like them or not!. But especially within the straight edge community, it's pretty normal to have straight edge / vegan tattoos!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why would being vegetarian/vegan influence your opinion of tattoos!? I don't believe the ink is derived or tested on animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a tattooed vegan!. I invented my own symbol--the female symbol with a big green "V" inside to indicate my veganism (and that I'm a feminist)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Getting a tattoo has nothing to do with vegetarianism or veganism, it is really just a personal preference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
