I'm curious, how do you guys view PETA?!

Question: I'm curious, how do you guys view PETA!?
I know PETA advocates/promotes/supports a vegetarian diet among other *cough* things!. In your eyes, are they a great organization or controversial!?
I'm not a fan of them but I saw three answers on here refering to them!. Just curious what the consensus is!. :D

I think that the organization suggests that it is one thing while it is totally something else all together!.

That they have 'kill shelters' vs!. shelters that save and protect animals hypocrisy of the highest order!.

When they went through the phase of photos of naked famous women in their ads - I found it insulting to women!.

I really don't understand why they have a tax free status - such is amazing to me!. I see no local impact at all in any area for this group!.

They have a website - and they do sell things on that website - but I see no local impact in any community at all by the group!.

Better to donate to a local group in your area that you can go and SEE what is going on - if what they claim to be doing they are actually doing!. Donate your time and money to a local shelter!. But to give money to PETA - is seeing that someone keeps their fat paychecks is about all that I see that you would be doing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegetarian, I don't wear fur, I don't wear leather, I don't use any products tested on animals, BUT I DO NOT support some of the things PETA does!. Instead of working with these "cruel companies" and making changes they go around threatening them!. It's not the way to go, PETA is a organization of extremists who instead of actually helping animals they go around threatening meat eaters!. I am a supporter of the ASPCA society though!. And I am happy that there is a animal organization out there that is doing big things for animals, but PETA should change some of their actions like going around in a cage naked!? Why do all that!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think some of the goals they are working towards are great such as reducing the fur usage by designers and making animal conditions better!.
I do think they overhype some of their information to try and make a point, which they really shouldn't do!.
And their ultimate goal, to make the world go vegan, is obscene!. One, it's never going to happen!. Two, if everyone in the world went vegan, or even vegetarian, the animal population would overrun the Earth!. The whole food chain would be destroyed and we would probably all eventually die from lack of food!. Or go through a famine!.
Overall, PETA's ok, but they need to tone it down and stop overeggagerating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't agree with all of PETA's tactics, but overall I support the organization!. PETA's low-cost spay and neuter clinic has sterilized tens of thousands of animals, preventing an unimaginable amount of homeless animals!. Some people don't like the fact that PETA offers humane euthanasia services, but this completely ignores the good work that PETA does to prevent more animal homelessness and euthanasia!.

PETA's successful campaigns have influenced corporations to stop selling fur, stop testing on animals, stop selling glue traps, and so on!. Companies know that PETA means business!.

The abuse of animals is a depressing topic, and PETA understands that most people would rather not think about it!. Through its colorful and provocative campaigns, PETA is able to reach the public with information about animal issues!. What would you rather see -- a poster of a tortured animal or a tofu wrestling exhibition promoting vegetarianism!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

PETA is just trying to spread the word of how poorly animals are treated and how we need to do something about it!. They also try to tell people that animals are living creatures that have feelings and emotions and not just dead pieces of meat for eating! They are good people who care about the Earth, animals and people!. But lots of people are to ignorant to give anything good for Earth, animals and other people a try!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think they are a great organization and have done wonderful things in respect to ethical treatment of animals, however they do tend to be a bit aggresive at times and have disappointed me more than once!.

For example,!.!.!.

My cat had kittens a couple years ago and I placed the kittens with other families through an ad!. They contacted me and insulted me for breeding animals blah blah blah!. Come on now!. My cat had kittens ~ isn't that part of nature!? Sheesh!. They were born in my bed and slept with me after they started walking, darling little babies!. They had a plush life in my home and I made sure they went to families that would continue pampering them!. I thought PETA was out of line in that situation!.

On the large scale of things though, I do appreciate their work!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

PETA is just a front for another leftist liberal extremist group that picks and chooses their "animal causes" based upon what newsflashes run by them on any given day!. If the horse at the Kentucky Derby did not get euthanized on the track, PETA would have shut their mouths and butt into the next animal related newsworthy item!.

Anyway, my experience with observing PETA "members for hire" during demonstrations and protests in San Francisco is basically when they used to throw either animal blood or red paint at women in SF's Union Square shopping district that wear leather or fur!. By spilling animal blood that they purchase from butchers or Asian markets, or staining the fur of animal hides, are they not desecrating the spirit of that animal!?

They're backwards in thinking and basically the same people that are disturbing the Olympic Flame as it makes it's way around the world!. Just a bunch of liberal scum!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I joined PETA's support group and mailing list about a year ago!. I soon requested to be taken off!.

I'm sure they mean well, but don't understand preaching isn't going to do anything!. They just don't get that and get frustrated about people not listening to them!. Much like Greenpeace, they have a good goal and good message!. But they way they portray that message only takes credit away from their cause and make themselves, and their mission look bad!.

I'd like to hope the people who started PETA wanted more than that!. But I don't know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think some of the members are very dumb but most people grossly underestimate the intelligence and emotional qualities of animals and have little understanding of how badly they are treated!.

PETA might seem extreme but the next time you see a hamster doing back-flips on Funniest Animals you should know that it has probably gone insane from boredom and confinement!. Most people - almost all people - are cruel to animals and PETA wants to change that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think PETA is the best advertisement for veganism
improving intellectual function
LOL!.!.!.!.!.!.!.
Because they HAVE less intellect than a houseplant!.!.!.
It's NOT about the animals, because they have put animals down that they took in!.!.!.!.!.!.it;s about MONEY and Power, !.greed!.!.!.
and spreading outright LIES!.!.!.!.esp!. ASK Carla!.!.

She would have you believe that the Nobel Laureates never existed, that polio and other vaccines that were developed were either useless or non existant!.!.!.
Anyone with even an iota of reading comprehension can read the Nobel Laureate site and sort out what is fact and what are her fabrications!.!.!.
When one has to resort to lieing, it paints the big "L" on their forehead!.!.!.and Carla is wearing one!.!.!.of desperation and of deceitWww@FoodAQ@Com

I believe that animals including humans are smarter than we think!. I also like to eat meat, wear leather shoes and belts!.

I think that the animals that supply furs, leather and dinner are raised as crops for the purpose of supplying those items, often under horrible conditions!.

Do I think that a cow is sentient!? That a mink is no more than a rodent!. That the dumb dead cow needs it's hide!? No to all of the above!.

Do I have problems with treating dumb livestock and rodents as crops!? No!.

Are people going to take exception with my choices!? Probably!.

will I still have eggs and bacon in the morning!? Probably!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know they can definately be extreme, but in their extremities, they have pulled fur from some of the top fashion designers' lines!. And that is wonderful! The animals cannot speak up for themselves, so any kind of attention that is brought to the very real problem of animal abuse and suffering is welcomed by me!.
I recommend everyone watch "I am an Animal"
You will be shockedWww@FoodAQ@Com

I think most people would come down on the side of ethical treatment of animals!. However, PETA seems to be made up of a group whose real agenda is the equality of animals and people!. I hate to see animals abused or deprived of food and water, but I DO see animals as a food source!. I think there could be a happy medium here that PETA refuses to accept!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think that if anything, it hinders the animal rights cause!.
it gives people like me a bad name, and that hurts the cause, because whenever i try to explain my stance on those issues, people just assume i'm "crazy like peta" and won't hear me out and keep a closed-mind!.
plus, they just spend all their money on celebrity endorsements and the like!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegetarian, and I absolutely hate PETA!.
They go too far and make people view vegetarians/vegans as hippies who throw their beliefs in your face!.

That and they euthanize cats on the streets and throw their bodies in dumpsters, which I feel is just plain wrong!.

Boo PETA!. :(Www@FoodAQ@Com

I hate them!!!
I think they're are a group of crazy insane vegetarians who aim to take over the world by posting videos about how companies slaughter their cows!. I mean YUCK!. My sister is a vegan and they send her crap about animals in the slaughter house!. I mean why would a vegan want to know what goes on in there!?

I think their approach in turning people into veg*ns is really ridiculous and rude!Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can support a presidential candidate and not agree with everything they do or say!.!.!.same with charitable organizations!. I consider myself a member of PETA but I am embarrassed by some of their news reports and don't agree with all their views!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Use to be better slowly getting just!.!.*wrong* ive heard theve killed huge numbers of animals inhumanely but some of the vidoes theve gathered tuned me vegan so!.!.!.i dont know:SWww@FoodAQ@Com

bunch of misguides wackosWww@FoodAQ@Com

They are too extreme in my eyes!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

animals drool, plants rule!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
