Answers:
It's not exactly bone marrow in most marshmallows, but gelatin, which comes from the bones, hides, and connective tissues of slaughtered animals!. Vegetarians don't eat gelatin!. But there are gelatin-free marshmallows, made with a vegan gelling agent, that we can have!. Pangea (www!.veganstore!.com) has its own line of Vegan Sweets marshmallows, and Sweet and Sara also make vegan marshmallows (and vegan s'mores--sigh!)
Your friend should also know that gelatin is also in some yogurts, candies (especially gummy candies), and other foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes it's true!. The substance is called gelatin and it is a combination of bone marrow, cow/pig hooves, and something else (lol I forgot what it was)!. Gelatin can also be found in Skittles (taste the rainbow!), Starburst, and type of gummy candy, and some other sweet sticky junk!.
And yes, there is a substitute for the marshmellows and the gummies!. The new cocoa skittles are vegetarian, and the Skittle in Australia are vegetarian!. There are no veg*n Starbursts that I know of!.
PS- Can you tell you friend about the skittles, starbursts, and gummies (just to make sure he is aware of them!. Thanks)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hey, that is true indeed, because most of the marsh mellow contains gelatin, which is made from bone!. That's why vegetarians also have to be extra careful when eating stuff like mousse cake, or jello!.
But there is a lot of substitution for gelatin, the most common one is agar gel!. So, if you can make homemade marsh mellow, just use agar gel instead of gelatin, it works just fine!.
:) cheersWww@FoodAQ@Com

Marshmallows contain gelatin, which is made by boiling hides, bones and connective tissue of slaughtered animals!. It is not a vegetarian food!. Gelatin shows up in a lot of foods, especially candies!. Anything with gelatin should be avoided by a vegetarian!.
You can buy vegan marshmallows, but they are harder to find!. You'd probably have to go to a vegan grocery if you have one, or order them online!. Sweet & Sara is one brand to look for and there is a company in New Zealand called Angel Food that makes marshmallow kits so you can make your own!.
(Mambas are a lot like Starburst, but without gelatin!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com
