Answers:
Thanks for wanting to help your friend!. I would recommend that she focus on getting rid of the obvious animal products (meat, dairy, and eggs) and not worry about the hidden ingredients!.

Veganism isn't about personal purity or obsessing over a list of ingredients!. It's about trying to make choices that help to reduce suffering!. Boycotting products that are 99!.9 percent vegan sends the message to manufacturers that there is no market for this food, which ends up hurting more animals!.

Here's a good site explaining this issue:
http://www!.vegcooking!.com/anote!.asp

If your friend really wants to know about the hidden ingredients, here's a longggg list of them: http://www!.caringconsumer!.com/resources_!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No meat
No fish
No fowl
No game
No eggs!.
No honey
No gelatine
No non- vegan sugar
Nothing with any of those ingredients in it
Np leather
No feathers
No bone meal or buttons
No carmine
No albumin
No non-veg mono and dy-glycerides
No dairy --
milk, cream, sour cream, yogurt, kefir, sherbet, ice cream,
cheeses etc!.
Other than that - straight ahead
And for some awesome recipes check out http://www!.your-vegetarian-kitchen!.com/h!.!.!.
They are not (NOT) all vegan but many of them are, and they are all delicious!.
Good luck to your friend!. There are hundreds of other great foods to eat and incredible substitutes for many of the 'comfort' foods on this list!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A common mistake is people thinking that being vegan is only about what NOT to eat!.
This is an unhealthy approach!. Your friend will have to add a wider variety of foods to her diet in order to be a healthy vegan!. I recommend going down to Barnes and Nobles and reading Vegan Planet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i agree with love of truth but u have to remember no marshmallows either and ur friend will probably have stomach aches or dizzinessWww@FoodAQ@Com

good questionWww@FoodAQ@Com

No meat including fish

No diary, eggs, and honey (use agave instead!. It also tastes better)

No gelatin (made from the bones of animals)

Some white sugar is process with bone char!. It is better to use raw sugar cane anyway!.

No Carmine (which is made from thousands of crushed insects to dye clothing red as well as in some food colorings for pops and juices, etc)!.

Those are the main ones but I would avoid any product you don't really know what the ingredients are or at least look them up on line!. I know some glycerines are vegan and others not so you might have to contact the manufacture on some products!.

Best of wishes to you and your friend : )Www@FoodAQ@Com

i have a question, what kind of vegetarian is your friend!?
here is a list of them!

Pesco- these people are not really vegetarians, but at least they are on the path to vegetarianism!. they usually eat fish, and consider themselves vegetarian because fish have different nerve endings, which arguably means that they do not feel the same kind of pain when they are killed!. also, fish live natural lives before they are killed!.

Ovo-lacto vegetarian- this is the most common form of vegetarianism in the untied states today, (although veganism is getting there)!. they do not eat any meat!. they will eat eggs and dairy products (vegetarian cheeses, ice cream, milk)!. they eat these things because cows and hens do not necessarily die from giving milk and eggs!. (most ovolactos are uninformed, and still eat cheeses which contain animal rennet or enzymes!. this comes from cows stomach, and cows must die for this, so technically these people are not vegetarians either!.)

Ovo vegetarians- pretty much the same as above, except that they do not eat any milk/dairy products!.

Lacto vegetarians- pretty much the same as ovolactos, but they do not eat any eggs or egg products!.

Vegans- vegans are "hardcore" vegetarians!. they do not eat anything that comes from an animal!. they also avoid products that contain animal parts in them!. they do not wear leather or wool, and they avoid certain shampoos, etc!. honey is debatable, because it comes from an animal, but some people do not consider it the same because the bees have a less complex nervous system!. it is unknown if thye feel pain or not!. most vegans avoid honey, just to be on the safe side, they figure that honey is not neccessary for them to eat, so they just avoid it!. vegans try to prevent animal cruelty!.
(hens and dairy cows are treated poorly, they live just as terrible lives as any animal who is raised for meat!. hens and dairy cows end up being sold for meat anyway, when they cannot produce anymore milk/eggs!. hens are debeaked, they live in crowded samll uncomfertable cages, they cannot always get to their food or water, they loose feathers from strees, when they stop producing eggs their bodies are often "shocked" into producing eggs by not being fed for fourteen or sixteen days!. dairy cows are also pumped up with hormones, so that they constantly poduce milk, this is very painful for them!. it leads to udder ligament damage, mastitis, and lameness; cows udders become swollen; and they are killed at age 5-6, when their normal life expectancy exceeds 20; they are rarely allowed to nurse their young!. both cows and hens are abused by being beaten!. so this is some of the reasons why vegans do not eat eggs or milk!.)
also vegans look at it this way:!.!.!. "animals were not put on this earth for humans anymore than blacks were for whites, or women were for men!."

Raw/living foodists- only eat raw living food such as plants, vegetables, and grains because enzymes are destoyed by normal cooking processes!. (anything that is cooked past 118 degrees f is unacceptable)

Fruitatarian- fruitarians eat only fruit, fruit-like vegetables (e!.g!., tomatoes, cucumbers), and sometimes seeds and nuts!. any part that a plant can easily replace!.

Sproutarians- a diet built primarily around sprouted seeds, such as bean sprouts, wheat sprouts or broccoli sprouts, but usually supplemented with other raw foodsWww@FoodAQ@Com
