Question: Why cant vegans eat this!?
marshmallows!?!? a vegan said she cant eat them!.i was just curious what ingrediant is in there that they wont eat marshmallows because of it!?!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

commercial marshmallows or homemade marshmallows are usually made with gelatin, which is an animal product!.
The original version doesn't have any byproducts (it's actually made from plants- marsh mallows), but nobody makes it because it takes forever to make it, and it has very short shelf life!.
There are some versions made with vegetable starch and thickeners!. They taste ok, but they have kind of pudding-like weird texture!.
I was raised Jewish, so I never ate the regular marshmallows and I am still used to screening the ingredient lists, even though I don't really keep kosher anymore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

my flatmate was vegetarian and we had that discuss last summer in a bbq!. Apparently, marshmallows are made of gelatine - and gelatines are extracts from animal bones!. however, you can get vegetarian versions, but they taste really really NAFF and never set properlyWww@FoodAQ@Com

they have gelatine in them which is made by boiling pigs and cows skin and there tendons!. It also has blubber in them!. Gelatine can be found in jell-o, pop-tarts, and other items just read the ingrediants very carefully!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
