Am i breaking my vegetarianism....?!

Question: Am i breaking my vegetarianism!.!.!.!.!?
by wearing leather/suede shoes even if my mom gave them to meWww@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You are not breaking any rules!. Being vegetarian refers to your diet!. However, wearing leather/suede (even if is a gift) is not very good!.

Leather may be made from cows, pigs, goats, and sheep; exotic animals like alligators, ostriches, and kangaroos; and even dogs and cats, who are slaughtered for their meat and skins in China, which exports their skins around the world!. Since leather is normally not labeled, you never really know where (or whom) it came from!.

Most leather comes from developing countries like India and China, where animal welfare laws are either non-existent or not enforced!. Many of the millions of cows and other animals who are killed for their skin endure the horrors of factory farming—extreme crowding and deprivation as well as castration, branding, tail-docking, and dehorning, all without any painkillers!. In India, a PETA investigation found that cows have their tails broken and chili peppers and tobacco rubbed into their eyes in order to force them to get up and walk after they collapse from exhaustion on the way to the slaughterhouse!. At slaughterhouses, animals routinely have their throats slit and are skinned and dismembered while they are still conscious after improper stunning!.

By wearing leather, you show people that you are ok with that!. It doesn't matter if you were the one that bought it!. Maybe if you don't wear them your Mother will take a hint and not buy you products that you don't think are morally right!.

The fact that you asked this question shows that you care a lot!. Don't change your beliefs for anyone!. Good luck making your decision!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That really depends on your motive for being vegetarian!. Are you vegetarian from an environmentalist's, a health nut's, a pompous holierthanthou type person′s, or an animal rights' point of view!? If it's the last one, then yes!. You're breaking your vegetarianism!. If it's the first one, you're PROBABLY breaking your vegetarianism!. If it's the second or third one, feel free to wear your suede shoes!Www@FoodAQ@Com

nutritionally - NO as you don't eat your shoes!.
Ethically its difficult!. Leather is a by product of meat production not visa versa - so long as people eat beef there will always be leather as a byproduct!.

So in essence you are using animal by products but is it not better to use something thats made anyway that discard it totally - that would make the death of the cow even more wasteful!.

Many Vegitarians (myself included) see so problem in leather as long as we do not directly lead to the death of an animal purely for its skin!. Leather is OK, FUR is BAD!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It wouldn't TECHNICALLY be breaking your vegetarianism since it doesn't have to do with your diet, but it WOULD be on the hypocritical side!. It'd be pretty much saying "I don't approve of killing animals for food, but I approve of killing animals for fashion!." What's the difference!?

I'm a vegan, and when I went vegetarian, I only wore my leather boots until I had the money to get another pair!. Life happens and you don't always have the money to replace every non-vegan or non-vegetarian thing you own, but I would recommend that you ONLY wear the shoes if you don't have another pair that does the same purpose, or if you don't have access to getting another pair!.

When vegetarians/vegans do things that come off hypocritical like that, it gives ALL of us a bad name because people begin to think we ALL have hypocritical tendencies, so why should we be taken seriously!? And the last thing we wanna do is hurt our cause and put more animals in danger!

Hope that helped! Good luck! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

While I question someone how someone can object to eating the flesh of cows while wearing their hides, we all have to make our own decisions!. My boyfriend has been veg for YEARS, but he still wears leather shoes and belts and won't consider the vegan stuff!.

Me, when I went vegan, I got rid of all my leather and wool and found animal friendly alternatives!.

Some people will wear leather they got as a gift or before they went veg*an, use it up, and replace with an animal-friendly alternative!. However, if it bothers you, you can let your mom know that you prefer not to wear animal skins!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just up to how YOU feel about it, not us!. But I think the fact that you had to ask us all means you might be a little bit uncomfortable about it!. You can still call yourself a vegetarian if you wear those shoes, especially since you didn't buy them yourself!. If you said you were vegan, that would be a different story!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You decide what you want to eat and what you want to wear!. It's not a religion where you have to accept all the rules or none of them!. You can eat a vegetarian diet and wear leather shoes - after all cows do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it depends if you are a vegetarian then no but if you are a vegan then it is breaking it but with vegetarianism its all about your own choice nobody can tell u whats rightor wrong to eat there are different types of vegetarian anywayWww@FoodAQ@Com

A vegetarian doesn`t usually wear leather but it has been known, it`s the vegans that won`t wear anything that comes from an animalWww@FoodAQ@Com

Who set these stupid "RULES", who regulates vegetarians, it is your choice, so if you feel bad about wearing leather then don'tWww@FoodAQ@Com

of course not because being a vegetarian just means you don't eat meat or animal products so having leather shoes doesn't mean your breaking your vegetarismWww@FoodAQ@Com

nah, if you were a vegan then yes!.

bit of a contradiction but at least being veggie is better than not being veggie!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think so!. Its not alright for animals to be killed for food but it is alright for them to be killed for quality footwear!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well if you eat them then we have a problem!.!.!.!.

but it is from an animal sooo maybe you are

and your mom gave you them its not like you personally wanted them!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, that's on veganism!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, vegan is where you don't eat or use any animal productsWww@FoodAQ@Com
