Gifted Leather Coat?!

Question: Gifted Leather Coat!?
Okay so I have a very expensive leather coat that was given to me by my grandmother a year ago!. I had been wearing it quite often up until a few months ago when I went vegan!. The problem is I don't want to hurt my grandmother's feelings but it would be too much of a contradiction to continue wearing the coat being a vegan!. But I don't want to just throw the coat out either because it was so expensive!. So!. !. !.

Would it be wrong to wear it occasionally so I don't hurt her feelings!?
or
Should I give the coat to my mother who is vegetarian but not vegan!.

Any suggestions!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It is not a contradiction at all!. The point of veganism is to not harm animals!. This coat was bought for you before your conversion to a new lifestlyle!. While obviously the animal was harmed in the making of it, the harm has been done, and you can not continue to harm an animal that does not exist anymore!. Plenty of vegans use used leather goods to prevent having to buy new goods, thus creating a demand for more of it!.

You have a few options!.!.!.

Continue wearing your leather until you have used it up, then don't buy any more!.

Donate your coat to a friend/relative/shelter/resale shop!.

Please do not waste the coat by throwing it away!. You can prevent another animal from being used for leather by giving yours to someone that needs it!.

While I'm not a vegan (I'm a vegetarian), I did have an expensive leather jacket that I bought before I changed my diet!. After a while, I just felt weird wearing it, so I gave it to a good friend of mine that was looking to buy one of his own!.

Ask yourself how often you see your grandmother, and if you think she expects to see you in that coat when she does see you, or if she would be offended if she saw that you gave her gift to someone else (your mother)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been in the same situation!. My sister bought me a Coach purse a while back - before my veg*n days!. I don't want to give it away or give it back to her as that would totally hurt her feelings!.
I still carry it every now and then!. I think that since it was 1) given to me and 2) way before I made the lifestyle change, it is okay to honor the fact that it was given to me out of love!.
I don't buy leather products now, nor do I buy them for others, but the purse was given in the past!.
Ultimately, do what makes you comfortable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can do either!. If you give the coat to your mother, explain your position to your grandmother!. Tell her you don't want to hurt her feelings, but you feel very strongly about this and it would compromise your principals to wear it!. Still, you know it's a nice coat, and your mother will get more use out of it!. I think she will understand!. Those of us who are of grand parenting age are much more interested in our wonderful grandchildren and the individuals they are becoming than in things like coats!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i would keep when you received you was delighted and liked wearing it so now your a vegan don't buy or receive any such things its from the time you became a vegan that you should practice your belief's and stick to it i am not a veggie or vegan but i believe in ever one to their own so long as they don't try and push it on others good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Well wearing the leathe rin the public while your vegan makes you a hypocrite!. If you wqear leather in front of ANY HUMAN BEING YOU ARE ADVOCATING (Saying its OK) to wear, weat, abuse and torture those poor cattle and other animals people eat and use for their daily lives and to wear! YOU ARE SAYING ITS OK TO DO IT!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

wear it occasionally since you don't want to hurt her feelings!. I had to do that once when my mom purchased a coat with real fur trimings on it, and would not return it :/!. Yah, people did really give me crap about it at school since I was an animal rights activist!.!.!.!.hmmmm so idkWww@FoodAQ@Com

Vegan is just a word, live by your own rules!.!.!.!.so many people are so concerned with the label!.

Don't get all caught up the name and the rules!. You don't need to explain yourself to anyone!. Be yourself, we don't need a set of rules to be good and happy and free!.

I think if you explain to your grandmother WHY you choose not to wear it any more, she'll understand!. Explain it to her and then tell her you still want to keep it in the family and then give it to your mother!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Keep the coat if anyone should have to benefit from an already exploited animal it should be a Vegan, believe me the cow would have wanted it that way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honey just wear the coat, It's not like you baught it!.

The animal was killed for its meat the hide is a byproduct of meat production!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's up to you!. It was your coat before you became vegan so do whatever makes you comfortable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

just wear the coat whenever shes around and when shes not dont wear the jacketWww@FoodAQ@Com

You could always sell it on consignment, and replace it with a vegan version!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
