Question: If you eat a organic vegan diet!.!.!.!.!?
where do you shop for you foods!? I've seen some things at wal-mart and other stores, but my Dad has to go on an organic vegan diet, and they live in the middle fo nowhere!. We are 80 miles from Wal-mart, K-mart, Smiths etc!.!.!. So they will have to buy in bulk and can or freeze items!.

Are there any good online sites where they can buy fresh or even just dry goods!? Please share any and all tips and even a few recipes if you would like!.

For online sources, try http://www!.veganessentials!.com as well!.

Most grocery stores in small town areas won't carry organic foods that often!. Your dad can try going to a local farmer's market, if they exist in his area!. Many of the farmers farm organically!.

also, not all non-organic produce contains the same amount of pesticides!. The ones that DO retain the most pesticides are the ones I try to buy in an organic version when possible, but for the others I don't go out of my way to purchase organic!. Here's the list of those items you should consider purchasing as organic:

1!. Peaches
2!. Apples
3!. Sweet Bell Peppers
4!. Celery
5!. Nectarines
6!. Strawberries
7!. Cherries
8!. Lettuce
9!. Grapes (Imported)
10!. Pears
11!. Spinach
12!. PotatoesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Your Dad may have a number of options open to him!.

1) Monthly or quarterly shopping trips to the main shops to buy in bulk!. You can get discounts buying in bulk from organic shops and some wholesalers!. Many of the wholesalers have a minimum order, so does he have friends or neighbours that would agree to buy in bulk with him!?

Three people at $100!.00 each could buy a LOT of produce in bulk!. Things like tinned tomatoes, dried seeds, beans, pulses and pasta can be stored in the cupboard for months or years!.

Some fruit and vegetables freeze well and some don’t – trial and error I am afraid!. Spinach does not really freeze that well but bananas do!. Mango freezes well but raspberries don’t, and so on!.

2) He can grown organic and biodynamic fruit, vegetables and herbs at home, either in the garden or in pots on the patio / balcony, depending on area availability!. He can buy organic produce to eat and then save the seeds to propagate!.

I brought an organic avocado from the shop, planted the bulb and now have my own avocado plant growing in a pot!.!.!.!.!.There are plenty of organic gardening, organic seed suppliers and organic seed saver clubs on-line!.

3) Source out farmers markets in your area or farms willing to sell their produce from the farm gate!. Some smaller hobby farmers do not spray their crops!. So although not “officially” certified as organic, their products are basically very natural!.

4) If your Dad can’t get to the shops one month, maybe he could pay a courier to deliver or maybe the shops offer this service for an additional charge

5) Buy produce on-line!. I use to buy all my dry, tinned and fresh organic produce on-line; it was then delivered me by the company’s courier service!.

6) Go back to “old fashioned ways” and make many products at home, cheaper and healthier and much more tasty (i!.e!.) buy organic flour and make own bread, make home made organic beer, home grown or tinned tomatoes make great home made pasta sauce, home grown potatoes to bake in the oven!. Sprout organic seeds and pulses at home!.

7) Swap!. Does your Dad have friends or neighbours he can swap things with (i!.e!.) your Dad fixes his neighbours shelves, they give him a tray of home grown unsprayed “organic” lemons in return as payment!.

To be honest I would be highly suspicious about getting proper certified organic produce from places like Wal-mart!. I am sure I have read reports about produce not really being organic from these types of stores!.

In Australia we have magazines like "Grass Roots" and "Earth Garden", I am sure you have similar overseas!. These sorts of magazines are packed full of handy tips for organic and natural living!. Recipes, raising goats, raising chickens, seed saving, making do on less, market farmer ads, on-line stores, etc… etc…
