Why do meat-eaters want respect for their diet choice?!

Question: Why do meat-eaters want respect for their diet choice!?
If they wanted repect then I would think they would try harder to do things that could actually earn them respect!. As it stands, they cause the death of billions of sentient beings, cause green house emissions to be doubled and contribute to an ever increasing disease rate!. It seems like to me it is similar to a man asking for respect after lighting a kitten on fire - just because he had the free choice to do it!. I won't respect a person that takes a life like that and I won't respect a person that ignorantly follows their appetites at the cost of sentient beings!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The second a meat-eater learns that you are vegetarian, they become threatened and feel the need to defend themselves!.
This shows that they do feel at least a little bit that eating meat is not right!. By providing excuses and demanding you respect their choice, they are trying to make themselves feel superior and simultaneously reassuring themselves that they are right!.
I say let them go on with their facades!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I eat meat, and seek no respect as a reward for my diet choice!. My dad said that "no one owes us anything, not even respect!." I like animals!. I respect animals!. I identify with animals!. I do not consider them to be made of glass!. I do not believe that killing and eating a fish or a chicken or a cow is tantamount to condemning that animal to some sort of eternal suffering!.

As to your thoughts on meat-eaters, I think you're trying to categorize people in an illogical and unjust way!. There are many meat-eaters who are kind and loving and just towards their fellow humans, while there are many vegetarians and vegans who are unkind, unloving and unjust towards them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm a vegan; I do respect other people's choices!. If you really think eating meat is the same as setting a kitten on fire, and that no meat-eater is worthy of any respect, can I take it you have no meat-eating friends and have distanced yourself from any meat-eating family members!?

I think it's this sort of question that gives vegans and vegetarians a bad name!. And worse than that, it's made me give my first ever thumbs up to Wahoo!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because you demand respect for your diet choices! Don't sit there and put other people down for their choices and then expect them to just to sit there while you do it! I don't see anyone "making" you be a vegetarian;you make that choice, just as I make a choice to eat beef!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Listen, the world will always disagree on everything!. There are people out there that think you are a fool for your lifestyle and feel that you are ignorant for your lifestyle!.
You just need to learn to deal with it!. There are a lot more troublesome things going on in the world today than worrying about a complete strangers dietary choices!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I didn't get to the top of the food chain to eat only veggies!. !. !.If you don't respect me because I eat normally, then so be it!. In this day and age you actually have a lot more to worry about!. !. !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't worry about why meat-eaters want respect!.

Instead, start worrying about how you are going to justify your cruel and inhumane treatment of broccoli!.

http://www!.albertmohler!.com/blog_read!.ph!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Same reason you want respect for your diet choice!.
Its a personal choice and that's that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Eating meat is what enabled our brain to evolve into what we have today!. Animals eat other animals its normal plus your body needs things from meat that plants alone cant give!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe because it's their business!. We have choices in this world, they're making theirs!. We as people shouldn't put down others because we don't agree with them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why are vegetarians so damned self-righteous!?
And who told you that we, meat-eaters, want or need your respect!?
Everyone in your life that you love must be vegetarians, like parents, grandparents, siblings, close friends!. I can't imagine not respecting my mom or dad simply because we hold opposite views on diet!.
And what is with that comparison of a person that eats meat to someone that tortures animals for fun!. UGH!! Typical radical!.
Go veggie-evangelize somewhere else! I'm trying to enjoy my baked filet-of-sole!.!.!.and don't worry, it's wrapped around spinach!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1 sec i'll give you the same post i gave this other moron the other day!.!.!.
oh man don't get me on a tangent of how stupid veterinarians are!.!.!.I'm sure you've heard this but we have canines for a reason!. If you want to eat plants (because they don't have any feelings)!.!.!.then so be it but why must you enforce your tasteless and unhealthy diets on everybody!. And yes it is unhealthy, soy isn't supposed to be a meat substitute it's supposed to feed starving people!.!.!.
You people with your self righteousness, do you know that those stupid soy companies are out exploiting farm land that could be used to feed 3rd world countries all for our own luxary!?
Did you know that with the coaxing of green veggie freaks such as yourself we're using up all the worlds resources to produce more natural and "organic" food!.!.!.
if pretentious vegetarians want organic then grow a garden and stop wasting land and water and illegal Mexican help to grow these "purer" veggies!.!.
think about mass produced organic
it's a little bit of an oxymoron don't you think!?
Is my tangent done!.!.no I could go on and on about how ridiculous vegetarians are!.!.!.and I would have spared you but by posting this statement/question you rightfully opened yourself up to this attack!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

im a vegetarian and i think i should respect a meat eaters diet just as they should respect mine!. we both made choices in our life and both think we made the right one so why compare and contrast our diet choices its just a pointless argument when both sides think the other is wrong!. So i think both sides should respect each otheres opinion because as long as were doing what WE think is best its none of the other side's buisnesssWww@FoodAQ@Com

Usually meat-eaters don't choose to eat meat!. Their parents made that choice for them when they were infants or toddlers!. So it's hard to admire or respect a diet in which requires absolutely no effort!.

I can see that you respect people as a whole (as do I), but I agree that I can't respect a wasteful, unproductive diet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why do vegetarians want respect!? They rant and rave and call other people muderers when they aren't!. They look down on other people simply for having a different opinion!. It's like a gay basher demanding respect for enforcing his personal beliefs!. What's to respect there!?

Vegetarianism is a choice!. It is not a universal standard!. So if you want respect for that, you have to give it in return!. And to clarify it's respect of people's choices that we're talking about!. You need to respect every person's right to choose for themselves!. I think vegetarians are seriously misguided, but I respect their right to choose!. The only thing I ask in return is that you return the favor!.

I have issue with a couple of your points as well!. Livestock is NOT sentient!. Some of the animals are smarter than others, but not sentient!. If you really think a chicken is sentient then you don't know anything about chickens, or you don't know what sentient means!. Secondly, meat related farming does not double greenhouse gas emissions!. In fact farming is not a major factor at all compared to industry and automobiles!. And I'm not sure how you figure eating meat increases disease, that's a new one to me!.

What it boils down to is this!. You have every right to be a vegetarian, but I have just as much right to not be one!. Once you accept that, you'll be much happier!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi- although I am vegetarian and agree with some of your reasons (ie inhumane deaths, greenhouse emissions), I do think that you have just posted this question to get all the meat eaters all annoyed!. People don't go around yearning for respect from others for their diet choice, to a certain extent- it is a personal thing!. I also agree with the person that said that eating meat (or not) does not affect how nice/respectful a person is!. So in response to your question, meat-eaters do not necessarily 'want respect' for their dietary choice!.

However, I wanted to post a response to the first person that answered (crisis!?)
-I think we are talking about 'vegetarians' not 'veterinarians' (they are the ones who look after animals who are ill!.)
- The vegetarian diet is not tasteless and unhealthy- it actually has many health benefits- including- lowered levels of cholesterol so lower risk of heart disease, heart attacks etc!. and also some studies have shown that veggies are at lower risk from cancer
- Don't even talk about feeding people in the developing world or world resources!. If everyone was vegetarian, there would be enough land to grow crops for feeding everyone in the world, as it takes much less land to feed people on crops that on meat
- Why are you even talking about organic food!? Organic agriculture is not using any artificial fertilisers/pesticides and many meat-eaters care about organic food and many veggies do not care- it is a separate issue

You cannot even call that an attack- it is completely and utterly flawed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You do not know me and I do not know you, therefore no respect is deserved or warranted!. What little I know about you is from this question and it is framed in such a way that indicates to me that you are accusing meat eaters of being ignorant, murdering people who are ruining the world!. You came across as an arrogant, elitist snob, and therefore you have lost my respect and I could care less what you think of me!.

Edit
lo_mcg Either one or the other of us has let our standards slip or even the worst of the worst does something right once in a while!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't want respect for my diet choice!. It's the food I choose to eat, period!. Why the heck should someone respect my diet choice!? It goes in one way, provides my body what it needs, then goes out another way!. Sure, I've thought about becoming a vegitarian but I know I wouldn't be able to get all the protien and stuff I need!. It's HARD to stay healthy that way!.!.!. and I need my health!. I'd rather be healthy by making the right choices and eating a healthy diet of fruits, veggies, breads, nuts, few fats, meat, poultry, and fish!. I could go all religious, but I won't!. I don't want respect because of my diet choice!.!.!. I want respect because I deserve it as a decent person!. Just because I eat meat doesn't make me a bad person, and just because you DON'T eat meat doesn't make you a good person!. What about vegitarians who murder people, but then meat eaters like Mother Teresa!? Diet choice has NOTHING to do with respect in my opinion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most of my family are meat eaters!.
I am not going to hate them just because they eat meat!.
Many of my friends eat meat!. But I accept them because I realise that I won't ever change them!.

All this arguing over dietary preference is absurd!.
Eat what you like, I'm powerless to stop you, just as a meat eater won't ever make me eat meat!.

[edit] Oh, and please be aware that D!.O!.W and Mambo are the same person!. DOW/Mambo/Adam T, did you know that ranting is against the Community Guidelines!? He likes to troll the vegetarian & vegan section!. Best ignored I think!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

All people make choices!. While it is true that we are raised by parents that make the choices for us - the time comes in our life when we have the ability to either accept or reject the choices that we have been raised with!. A person that was raised eating meat and continues eating it after they are old enough to make personal choices - has made a personal choice!. Really no different than a person raised vegetarian/vegan that continues to eat vegetarian/vegan!.

I am not going to dislike someone and totally reject them only because they eat meat!. That just isn't going to happen - not with me!. There are so many factors that one has to consider in life - that such just seems very short sighted in my opinion!.

My family eats meat!. I am not going to not respect my family!. I raised them!. I love them with all my heart!.

I have many friends that eat meat!. I am not going to not respect them based upon if they eat meat or not!.

I also am not going to respect someone more just because they are vegetarian/vegan!.

This sort of question reminds me of the ones asking why a person that is a vegetarian/vegan would date someone that is a meat eater - totally ignoring other important factors to consider!.

It isn't like "lighting a kitten on fire"!. Such comments - don't help make the point that I believe that your attempting to make!. It actually hurts!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

eating meat has nothing to do wit flaming a kitten on fire if ur catholic/christian it says in the bible you can only kill for food, i understand the reason why people kill billions of animals its just one simple stupid thing one greedy thing every1 envies about its money $$ , if we never had money we wouldent be doing this in the 1st place!.

BTW when i kill animal only for food they dnt suffer i just knock them out so they wont feel pain!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why do vegetarian/vegans want respect for their diet choices!? Just because you eat vegetables and tofu doesn't mean someone who eats meat is wrong!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I dont want respect in the same manner as you, you are living no more a moral life than I am!.!. You just think your choices make you morally superior, otherwise you wouldnt be ranting on YA about your hatred for people who eat meat, which lets face it is the reason why we have pointy sharp teeth for!.

You sound like the kind of militant who I would associate with vegetarianism, egos like yours give vegetarians a bad name, you have made yourself upset by asking a delibrately attricious, stereotyping question to people who would have actually, been quite happy to help you had you asked a genuine one!. Just listen to you ranting, how sad, how pathetic, it makes a mockery of what YA is about, dont be surprised if someone reports this!. also your arrogance is something else!. You sound like Adolf hitler!. I notice you havent replied to anybody who has answered your question!.

So your a youngster who wants a fight, it sounds a bit like my sister, she was a veggie for seven or eight years, do you know what it took to stop her bloody moralising, i'll give you a clue, its the thing that gets all veggies back on track in the end, the delicious succulent smell of cooking bacon and that is what will happen to you!. Sounds like this vegetarianism is putting you on a massive downer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
