If you are a vegetarian, does it mean you have to be starved of protein?!

Question: If you are a vegetarian, does it mean you have to be starved of protein!?
I just recently became a vegetarian and my dad says i won't get enough protein since I am not eating meat!. Supposedly all vegetarians are fat or malnourished!. I'm wondering if this is true, and would like to know some ways of getting some protein (without eating meat!)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hello fellow veggie!!!!! That is definitely not true!. there are SO many things with protein in them!!!!!! Nuts for one are full of it!. also many meat substitutes like boca burgers, or morning star burgers etc!. have even more protein than regular meat!. You can get it in cheeses all kinds of stuff!. Just be sure the cheese you eat has no rennet (which comes from dead calves's stomachs :( ) Parents dont want their kids to to be veggie most of the time!. (Personal expirience) but you know its the right thing to do, and dont let things like that stop you from saving lives!. Vegetarians are often healthier than meat eaters if you eat the right stuff!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Definitely not true! You can get protein from a variety of foods that are not from animals!. Do your research on a healthy vegetarian diet and you will be quite healthy!. Even healthier than those who eat meat!.!.!.although there are those people who refuse to believe this, but that's just because they are uneducated and refuse to do some research!. Check out the link below!.!.!.it's a food pyramid that tells you everything you need to eat each day to be healthy without animal products!. Good luck!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't listen to your father!.

You can get healthy proteins from produce like beans, spinach and any fibrous vegetable!.

Not all vegetarians are fat or malnourished!. Some are more healthier than meat eaters!.

To get more protein, you can intake milk (if you are a lacto vegeterian), eat yogurt, make pasta with a ton of vegetables in it, prepare tofu, ect!.

There are a number of ways better than mine to get protein!.
I wish you the best on your choice! Keep at it!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Protein is in every living thing!.
No, no difference between the protein in this or that!.
Protein is protein!.
We combine amino acids to 'make' protein!.
So, in actual fact, we don't need to eat protein at all, just amino acids!. Fruits are packed full of amino acids!.!.!. so are lots of other things!. But, we can also break protein down into amino acids too!. Takes more energy to do this, so eating amino acids is more efficient!.

Study the human digestive system!.!.!. you'll see that we are not designed for meat anyway!. So!.!.!. he's wrong!.

I became vegan for athletic performance!. So!.!.!. I obviously got enough protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can live a healthful life as a vegetarian!. There are two main things to make sure you get: complete proteins (by eating rice and beans together, for example), and the B vitamin complex (which you can get from a supplement, if you're not getting enough in your diet)!. I recommend the Vegetarian Family Cookbook from Nava Atlas (which you can buy on Amazon here: http://www!.amazon!.com/Vegetarian-Family-!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I actually recently became a vegetarian too and my parents have been bugging me to research about how to get protein and everything and I found that beans are full of protein (I been trying different kinds of beans in salad and stuff) and tofu too!. When my mom told me to start eating tofu I was like eww no but at Wal-mart I found this tofu that can go right in your smoothie and you can't taste it!. for my smoothie I just put in 1 banana, 1 cup of yogurt, 1 cup of strawberries, and 1 cup of milk and the tofu (it says how much to add on the package)!. that all aprox!. I dont measure anything I just kinda guess!. good luck with everything!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

your dad is not right, but he's not entirely wrong either!. vegetarianism has the potential to cause protein deficiencies, but just a little knowledge on the subject can help circumvent it!. meats yield high-quality proteins while plants yield lower-quality ones!. simply eating a greater amount of lower-quality proteins will keep your body at a protein equilibrium!. make sure you're eating a variety of vegetables, nuts/seeds, grains and beans; not just the same ones all the time!. you're not going to get the appropriate amounts of protein by just eating alot of one or two types of vegetables!. soy is a good source of protein; not as good as animal proteins, but way better than the average plant protein!. also as a vegetarian, you don't have to cut out milk and eggs, which are both great sources of protein!.

btw, i'm not a vegetarian!. however, i have done research on the subject!.

good luck, stay healthy and promise not to become self-righteous simply because you choose to abstain from eating meat!. (that's in reference to an idiot who posted a question earlier)Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are ways to make sure you get sufficient protein as a vegetarian!. Beans, nuts and soy or tofu products all have protein!. also, some people still eat dairy or eggs since that doesn't involve killing animals!.

You just have to be a bit more aware of what you're eating to make sure you get that protein, but it certainly can be done!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First of all, the protein this is a myth!. I'm one of the very few boys at my school who actually have a six pack!. Lol my friends used to tease me for not eating enough, until the saw my abs (lol) now they never say I lack protein!. Oh, I've been vege my entire life!. I read a book called Skinny B***hs and the authors said that omnivores consume 2-4 times as much protein that is actually needed!.

Vegetarians generally aren't fat!. That is common since, and if you dad told you that he must have made it up in order to prevent you from turning vegetarian!. We aren't malnourshed!. All you have to do is eat the right foods!.

Protein can be found in cheese, whole wheat bread, nuts, beans, tofu, milk, pizza, and a lot of other stuff!. It really isn't that hard to receive protein (especially if your school serves pizza everyday!.!.!.like mine)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The are plenty foods without meat that contain protein!. And if you aren't getting enough in your diet, you can always buy some protein tablets to make up for it!. Being a vegetarian, even though I'm not(I love meat), is a healthier life style!. Checkout this site - http://www!.vrg!.org/ !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

or beans!.
and if your just a vegetarian, you would also get protein out of animal made foods, like cheese and milk etc!.

or you can have protein shakes, bars!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hey, I'm just becoming a vegetarian too!. Get some books on it and study up!. Ask your dad what does meat eat!? Cows, pigs, and chickens get their protein from eating: greens, soy beans, corn and oats!. Everything but white sugar has protein in it, just do your research and show your dad!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no that's not true, being a vegetarian just means you have to be more aware of what you need to do to get complete proteins!. Some vegetarians can be fat or malnourished, but so can anybody who isn't mindful of what they are eating!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Funny how the stereotype flips back and forth between "vegetarians are skeletons" and "vegetarians are morbidly obese"!. Make up your minds people!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No lots of things have protein that are much healthier than meat like; beans, nuts, fake meat (e!.g!., tofurkey, veggieburgers), tofu!. Almost EVERYTHING has protein! Your dad doesnt know anything, sorry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You and your Dad should read 'The China Study'!. That will answer all your misconceptions about protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
