According to one study "1992 market research study conducted by the Yankelovich research organisation claimed that "of the 12!.4 million people who call themselves vegetarian, 68 percent are female while only 32 percent are male!."

Why is this so!. I think in part genetics as women can do better with less protein than men!.

also women tend to be nurtures as I do believe there is some merit to genetic predisposition gender roles!. It is primarily the mother that if all else fails has to take care of a child!. This nurturing tendency often plays itself out as being able to empathize and hence act more compassionately towards others!.

I also believe men to have a more aggressive hormonal makeup!. Maybe it is because in the past men had to actively provide which meant action and often danger!. Such aggressively tendencies I believe would make one more libel to eat meat and no overly empathize!.

This is my materialistic answer but there is also a spiritual one!. For some reason it seems many women tend to spiritually mature faster than men but men often tend to be leaders of spiritual movements!. Why this is so I have not figured it out, but it is an obvious trend that is hard to deny!.

It does not mean that anyone needs to be pigeon holed!. We all should do our own thing without preconceptions and just see what happens!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I believe that there are!. Lots of sources suggest such!.

Reason why!? Most women do the cooking - so going to be looking into things that have to do with it - - which means that they are more likely to find out things about things to do with cooking/food that leads to better health!.

While some will poo poo this comment - it is also the new 'thing' to be for teens - and they see it as a way to lose weight!. This is a big thing for teenage girls!.

The men that I have met that are vegetarian/vegan - did so because of health reasons (heart/cholesterol problems), diabetic, etc!. Only one of them did it because of concern over animal welfare!.

For me - a healthy choice!. It doesn't mess with the medication that I have to take!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Society tends to believe that eating meat=strength!. Since men are overly-concerned with strength, machismo, and comparing themselves to other men, they are less likely to be veg*n!.

According to a Yankelovich study (1992) commissioned by Vegetarian Times of the 12!.4 million American people who call themselves vegetarian, 68 percent are female while only 32 percent are male!. That study is a little outdated but for all intents and purposes it works well here!.

The number 1 reason people are vegetarian are for health reasons (according to this article: http://findarticles!.com/p/articles/mi_m0!.!.!. ) and since women are generally more concerned with health and well-being, they are more likely to claim themselves to be vegetarian!.

Veganism is probably different, in that vegans are more likely to choose veganism for animal cruelty/AR issues, rather than just purely for health!. But since sensitivity plays a role in veganism it's most likely that there are more vegan women than men!. Men tend to be less sensitive to issues of animal cruelty, or if they do know, they are less likely to care!.

You should pick up a copy of "The Sexual Politics of Meat" by Carol Adams!. In the book she shows "a detailed examination of male dominance and meat eating" and "believes that women are more compassionate because American society allows them to be more empathetic than men!."

Great question Hollywood :0PWww@FoodAQ@Com

women are more likely to become vegan b/c
1!.they may want to lose weight
2!. they're not ashamed to be eco-friendly
3!. it's more socially acceptable for women
4!. women don't need as much energy as men
5 animal products have by-far more calories

ok so they're more likely to be vegans,
but i think it takes balls for a man be one, too!.
it's totally the manly thing to do!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes that it correct!. My dad thinks all veg*n men are fags which is very cruel of him I know!. I find some men are lykee my dad but Im sure theres a few guys out there that care!. I hate my dad so much hes sexist, racist and just plain cruel!. I hope theres not many men like him out there!. My thoughts are its just not manly enough for some guys!. Thats all!. Its sad because me and my friend would love to find some vegeterian guys but theres none in our school so thats that!. The guys think we're weird because of our beliefs but whatever!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Women are more to be a "vegan"
It's just because women are more caring about the animals, while men would kill a cow if they weren't going to haver dinner for once!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

probably considering women are usually more conderned about their weight!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

YesWww@FoodAQ@Com

It's all hype, being a Vegan or Vegitarian is a fad, and like all fads they eventually die!.!.!.

Now is the time for COW!
Beef, it's what's for dinner!. :)

Edit: Carnivorous is any species who PRIMARILY eat meat!.!. Even known carnivorous animals eat grass to clean it digestive track, does not make them omnivorous!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
