How to I get around gelatin pills?!
I'm a pretty strict vegetarian and have been avoiding gelatin in food for as long as I can remember, but just recently realized that it is in the capsules in some of the pills my dermatologist gave me!. I'm trying to get a new tablet prescription, but it's a pain in the a** and I was wondering if there’s any way to get the medicine another way!. I tried mixing it in a few things and it tastes really strong and super gnar!.!.!. Anyone else have this problem!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

They sell empty vegetarian/gelatin-free capsules!. I think you could transfer the medicine in your gelatin capsule into this one!. Check out this website:

I switch mine to non-gelatine capsules when I can!. Danakscully, can you explain how this is dangerous please!?
Don't empty the capsule and mix it in stuff, that can make you feel very ill - some medications are time released and are not supposed to hit your system all at once like that!.
I don't think all medications have an alternative in non-gelatine casing!. I'm assuming from the spelling of gelatine (ie gelatin) that people who've replied so far are from the US so perhaps that happens there!.
Taking necessary medication that comes in gelatine capsules or contains animal by-products is not the same as eating animal products!. By becoming a vegetarian or vegan, you did not sign up to be a martyr and risking your health is not veg*n, it is stupidity!. It is not your fault that medications contain these things any more than it is your fault that every single medicine has, by law, been tested on animals!.
Every day of my life I take a pill containing lactose; I'm still a vegan according to the definition given by the person who coined the word, and that's good enough for me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT switch your meds to vegetarian capsules unless you consult a doctor first!. This could lead to serious injury or death!. Some pills are time released as well!. Trust me, not a good idea!. I recommend telling the doctor, anytime you get a prescription, to give you a non-gelatin medication!. So far, I've had no problems!. And even if you did switch your meds to non-gelatin capsules, you're still creating a demand for the gelatin pills, so you might as well just take it if your motivations are for animal rights!.
I recommend just continuing your pill until your dermatologist can switch you!. I think the situation with meds is way different than just taking gelatin for convenience or pleasure (like gummy bears)!. If you need the pill, take it for now!. Good luck! :)
(lo - Like I said, capsules are sometimes time released!. It's best to ask a doctor before doing anything!. We had a debate about this on the Veggieboards, if you're creating a supply for the gelatin caps, you might as well use them and not waste them!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

My doctors know that I won't eat gelatin so all of my prescriptions are put in veggie-caps so I haven't experienced for quite some time!.!.!.
I did have that problem relatively early in my veganism though but I got everything sorted out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
