Would the current hike in food prices ease if we grew our own fruit and veg?!
And if we all stopped eating meat!?
What are your opinions!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lets be a little bit realistic here!. You're probably never going to get everyone to stop eating meat!.
If people grew their own fruits and veggies, it would decrease demand on the stores and prices would have to come down!. But how realistic is this idea!? Isn't the whole point of farms so i can work and just stop in the grocery store and pick up my fruits & veggies and pay the farmer!?
I think the ideas are lovely, but not realistic!. If you have the time and space to devote to gardening, I think it is a great idea and it will certainly help your own budget to grow your own rather than rely on the grocery store!. And if enough people with the time and space did it, then those without the time and space might see some price reductions and benefit as well!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've tried this idea, ( the growing of fruit and veg bit) It's a lot of hard work but worth it!. The main down side is the size of our garden and the variety of fruit and veg we could actually grow!. Like somneone else said the veg in Northern Europe isn't exactly exciting and due to the long cold winters where very little grows, a lot of my time is taken up with making chutneys and jams from the abundance of Autunm fruits to see us over the winter months and the lack of fresh fruit and veg has to be supplemented with supermarket stuff!.
It still helps in a financial sense but as I work from home I have the extra time and energy to do it, not everyone else has!.
It also gives children a sense of where their food comes from and instills respect in them for that food as they see the work that goes into growing it!. I love the excitement on their faces when they see the first strawberries in the garden and apple blossoms appearing on the trees!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well if we used the food we feed animals (which are then in turn eaten themselves) to feed humans instead then yes, there would be more food and the prices would go down!.
It takes 10kg of plant food to produce just 1kg of meat!. So if the plant food was given directly to humans instead then the savings would be vast!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, but not right away!. If we all took to growing our ouw produce (or as much as we can) then the demand for food would decrease!. If the demand decreases then the price must go down in order to sell the stocks!.
This would also have an effect, eventually reducing pollution as the lorries, planes, etc carring the stock to the suppliers would no longer be needed!.
Sounds ideal!? !.!.!.If onlyWww@FoodAQ@Com

the whole civilisation would go back hundreds of years!.!.!.you couldn't go to work in an office 9-5, come back home to tend to your vegetables!.!. to keep yourself alive you'd have to spend a lot more time growing stuff!. also, i don't think you could expect people in more northern countries to be happy eating only cabbage, turnips and potatoes!. i think the way we eat (a lot of fruit etc!.) has something to do with the longevity we achieve these days compared to middle ages!. the whole issue is too complex so unless people would like to get back to medieval times, it's not gonna happen!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
That would work in theory, but in order to impliment it, everybody in the UK would have to agree to do it!.
This is a good question though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would have to say yes!!! They would not have the supply and demand that they have right now!. And we would all be eating our own homegrown food!!! What a novel idea!Www@FoodAQ@Com
well most people do not have enough land to grow enough fruits or Veggies!. and if that was the case we could raise our own live stock its a good thoughtWww@FoodAQ@Com
Yeah, less demand!.
