I'm vegan and very healthy at the age of 34!. I even have a bit of a tummy recently which I need to flatten out - especially now the summer is here!. I am muscular and over 6 foot tall!. I have a healthy head of hair with no signs of balding or greying!. I look younger than I am, which I believe is down to the food I eat!. After all, you are what you eat!.

As long as your diet is well balanced then there is nothing to worry about!. You should be supplying facts to your mum about how bad dairy is!. Cows are injected with growth hormones and this ends up in your body and excellerates the aging process!. Look at Carol Vorderman since she doesn't eat dairy products - she looks better than ever!

People will say: where do you get your protein from!? Well, where do cows get their protein from!? Or how about Gorillas!? Too much protein is bad for you - after all, cancer is a protein!. Curly kale contains more calcium than milk - not to mention vitamin C and other minerals!.

Some people think that the dairy industry doesn't harm any of the animals!. They are very wrong and ignorant!. Read the following:

There are many premade foods out there for vegans if you think you are going to miss the obvious meat/dairy foods, like sausages, burgers, bacon, cheese!. Find your local health food shop!. You can even ask your supermarket if they could start stocking certain products for you!. This way it may make it easier for mum to cook for you - not that vegan cooking is difficult - it just means replacing some ingredients for others!.

More and more people are becoming conscious of the fact that we don't really need to eat meat or dairy!. The constant promotion and brainwashing of the consumption of meat and dairy is mainly to keep farmers happy and in profit!. But they can always make use of the land for arable farming instead!.!.!. especially as we seem to have a grain shortage in this country - hence the increase in a loaf of bread and flour!.

Most of it is common sense!. The internet has many vegan recipes for you to delve into!. You may even find that you are creating tastier dishes than before!.

Good luck with it!. It's a normal diet and remember there is absolutely nothing you cannot buy now that is vegan but resembles all those products that are made using animal derivatives!.!.!. they taste better too!

Here's a list of famous / celebrity vegans for you:

Mashed potatoes are vegan as long as you don't add milk or margarine or butter!.!.!.you could make parsley buttered potatoes with vegetable oil and parsley!. It is probably not easy for your mom to do two different menus and shop for two different groups of eaters and learn a new way of cooking when it is not her "thing"!. It is not always the cheapest way either when you factor in buying soymilk, and special products!.!.!.maybe if you were to volunteer to help with the cooking and think of ways that it can be done without inconveniencing her either money-wise or time and effort-wise!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

of course it is possibe! Research vegan diets on the net, go onto vegan websites, buy vegan recipe books!. I'm a vegan, and have two vegan children - we are all very healthy!. at first all my family and friends thought i was mad for going vegan, but they now realise i'm careful, about out diet, and that we are very healthy!.

Heres one thing to tell your mum - cows milk is for calfs, not humans!. and cows are not humans!. cows milk is totally wrong for humans, and has been linked to asthma, and other allergies!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The local health food shoppe is always a good place to start!. I am very sure that they have employees that are either vegetarians or vegans!. Talk to one of them and bring your mom with you!. They can really help the both of you understand the lifestyle of a vegan!.
Don't get mean with your mom about it or she won't take you seriously!. You need to approach it with some knowledge, so read about it as well!.
Good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Ask your Mum to buy you Soya Milk to begin with and gradually ask for other non animals by-foods, but I'm afraid until you are 16 your Mum has the final say, don't nag or antagonise her and you'll find she will see you are serious about becoming a veganWww@FoodAQ@Com

Giving up dairy from a vegetarian diet can be difficult!. I'm not aware of any harm caused to animals in the production of dairy produce!. If you're serious about it though, wait until you're 18 and let your mum decide what's best for now…Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm assume you are at least 13 or older!. This being the case I highly doubt your mother could stop you from being vegan even if she tried, that is if this is what you have set you mind on doing!.

Make sure you do your research and to print out any relevant information on the why and how's!.

I've been a healthy vegan for years now!. Not only this I'm healthier than when I was vegetarian as diary is a huge producer of mucus, a breeding ground for bacterias, which among other things causes infections and lowers your immune system!. For the first time in my life I can actually breathe out of both nostrils!.

The vast majority of parents are interested in your welfare!. If you stop eating the things that are not vegan they will do back flips to find things you can eat!.

I highly suggest learning to cook and shop for yourself, or at least in conjunction with your parents!. This will help create bonds and show them you are taking an active role in your own nutritional well being!.

Hello,

(ANS) I had even BIGGER problems than you when I wanted to go Vegan many years ago now, as my dad was a doctor and he had some weird ideas about foods & diets (all of which were wrong in my opinion)!.

No!.1 If you are going to become vegan you should do this VERY slowly and very gradually, why!? because I did it very quickly and very suddenly and I got sick because I didn't make the changes in the right way!. So please listen to me from my experience, change to being vegan slowly over a few weeks or months!.

No!.2 Actually when all said & done, being Vegan is a lovely thing to do!. Its a very good life style in my opinion!. Frankly, there is just so much utter rubbish & utter non sense talked about vegan by people who frankly don't know what they are talking about!.

No!.3 If you eat a vegan diet and you eat x3 normal meals a day (vegan meals obviously) and you are careful to get enough proteins, carbohydrates, fats etc in your diet then you wont be missing any thing essential or vital!. The only x1 thing you consciously need to make sure you get enough of is vitamin B12 but this is easy enough because the recommended daily amount is quite small!.

No!.4 Most people who are non vegetarian i!.e!. eat meat feel that being vegan is rather weird and they don't understand it, & at worst feel quite threatened by vegans!.

No!.5 Being Vegan is NOT easy but it's NOT unhealthy and in fact I think it does you good on many levels!. If you want to go vegan good on you DON'T give up just because others don't understand why you wish to follow that way of eating & living!.

Kind Regards IvanWww@FoodAQ@Com

you have some good advice already, and you really should read up so that you know how to live healthy and be a vegan!. if you have the facts, you would be more convincing to her that its a good decision for you!. she's just worried about your health!.

I just want to remind you though that this is your lifestyle choice, your mom shouldn't have to change her dietary habits because of you!. If you helped out in the kitchen then you could've taken the potatoes before she used them all and prepare yours as you like!. then you will also learn how to prepare vegan meals, which will help you out in the long run!.

I'm vegatarian and my parents are not!. while i am at home, I often make my own meals because they don't know what to make if there is no meat!. i will let them have what i make, so they get to try new things!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's great that you're interested in becoming vegan!. I would talk to your mom about why you want to be vegan and find out what her concerns are!. If she's worried about health issues, show her websites about vegan nutrition and offer to see a nutritionist!. If she's concerned that it will be too much trouble for her, offer to help with meal planning and cooking!.

Vegan diets are very healthy when they include fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains!. One concern for vegans is getting a reliable source of vitamin B12!. You can do this by either taking a supplement or eating fortified foods (like some soymilks and cereals)!.

The American Dietetic Association is one of the country's top nutrition experts and it supports vegan diets for all ages: "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence!."
