Ovo-lacto vegetarianism eliminates the eating of all meat, including fish , but allows the consumption of animal products such as eggs and milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The original definition of "vegetarian" coined by the Vegetarian Society in about 1847 included dairy and eggs!.
Now, some people call it "lacto-ovo-vegetarian!."
Indian/Hindu vegetarians generally don't eat eggs but use dairy products!. Some people would call that "lacto-vegetarian!." But I married into a Hindu family and I don't think I ever heard a Hindu say they are "lacto-vegetarian"; they just say they're vegetarian!.
Using the word "vegetarian" is generally less specific than "vegan" (which means no animal products whatsoever)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you eat no animal flesh (including the flesh of sea creatures), but you consume dairy and eggs, you are called ovo-lacto (or lacto-ovo, but the former is easier to pronounce) vegetarian or just simply vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
