Answers:
If you are in doubt, just cut off the patches!. I've gotten cauliflower that had gone bad in patches, and off they go!.
But yes, there are purple cauliflower!. You might have gotten a hybrid stray that was pollinated with a long distance bee!.

On this topic of cross pollination, GMOs are not good for the environment!. Once introduced, they can not be separated from the rest of the world's best pollinating vehicles - bees!. GMOs are one of the suspects in the hive collapse theory!.

Take a purple patch off with a knife!. Does it go deep into the cauliflower, like it was a part of the flowering fruit!? or is it just on the top, just like mold would grow!?

If you cook it, then the mold should not be viable, and safe to eat (taste wise is up to you)!. Eating it raw is a different story!. Better be safe than sorry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Totally agree with fluffy!.

I grow my own organic veg,and though you don't say you grew it or bought it!.

If you grew it from packet seed, then refer to the packet!.

If you grew them from harvesting last years seeds its normal to have hybrids in there from time to time!.

If you bought it,keep quiet,as the purple caulis are dearer lol!.,you got a bargain!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
