Lacto-vegetarians consume milk/cheese/dairy products!.

Ovo-vegetarians consume eggs!.

Lacto-ovo-vegetarians consume dairy products, eggs, and so forth!.

Vegans do not consume any animal by-products!.

Generally, most vegetarians fall into these three categories but there are more and a lot who don't fall into them perfectly!. A lot of lacto-vegetarians consume cheese or milk rarely but are still lacto-vegetarians!. Vegans are the strictest and even avoid products like honey!.

Typically, vegetarians avoid wearing fur or purchasing products that cause harm to animals!.

There are even flexitarians who, somehow may, fall into the category of vegetarianism because they consume meat but only rarely!. also, pescetarians often fall into the category of vegetarianism (don't ask me why = ) because they only consume fish!.

Cheese can be on a vegetarian diet because, if you investigate where it came from and how it was produced, it technically doesn't harm the animal!. Producing milk is a natural thing for a lot of animals!. Just make sure to go organic when purchasing dairy or look for products that tell you they were processed on a family farm that doesn't condone animal cruelty!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, it is!. In fact, vegetarians who don't eat cheese [and other dairy products] are vegans!. Vegans don't touch anything from animals, like most dairy products!.
Each restaurant differs, though!. Most assume that vegetarians do consume cheese, however!.

I am a vegetarian, and I love cheese! Especially with macaroni!. (:
But be warned, most cheese is made with rennet!. This is the lining of the cow's stomach!. The milk is fermented and then put within the rennet [which is basically removed from the cow and acts as a sort of pouch/bag] and then is sqeezed out!. This is supposed to give the cheese 'flavour'!. But personally, I think this is just evil, as the cow has to be slaughtered and its stomach has to be removed!.
Therefore, my family and I take special care to consume cheese that is non-rennet!. This is more expensive!.

But I am not sure if the cheese used in restaurants is rennet-free! So, I suggest ask the staff!. But it is most likely that they will not know!.
