Does vegetarian......?!
Feed meat to their dogs/cats!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Dogs usually do fairly well on the plant-based pet foods that are available, but cats don't!. Cats are obligate carnivores that simply cannot live and be healthy on a plant-based diet!. My obligation to care for the animals I have invited to share my life and whom I have promised to provide personal care overrides my moral responsiblity to the rest of the animals, IMHO!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Actually, I recently came across an article that says that cats that are carefully fed vegetarian food actually fare well!. I don't know where you can get the article without membership, but it was called "Evaluation of cats fed vegetarian diets and attitudes of their caregivers" in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association!. This is an excerpt from the abstract:
"People who fed vegetarian diets to their cats did so largely for ethical considerations and were more likely than people who fed conventional diets to believe that there are health benefits associated with a vegetarian diet and that conventional commercial cat foods are unwholesome!. Both groups were aware of the potential health problems that could arise from improperly formulated vegetarian diets!. All cats evaluated had serum cobalamin concentrations within reference range, and 14 of 17 had blood taurine concentrations within reference range!."
Basically, it says in a nutshell that the blood levels of certain compounds are in the normal healthy range even with vegetarian cats, as long as it done right!.
I haven't met any vegetarians that fed their dogs or cats vegetarian foods, except my fiance's family, who once had a dog that had some sort of illness, so it had to eat this disgusting concoction of pureed vegetarian stuff to keep from getting sick!. I never owned a cat or dog (I just have birds!.!.!.they eat seeds and pellets), but if I ever get a dog, I might consider a vegetarian diet!. It's safe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'M VEGETARIAN!.
I feed my dog: meat, or dog food!. Whatever!.
I do not believe in eating meat because i think it's cruel!.
However, it would be my dogs choice to eat meat/not!. THing is, my dog would be healthier on it, because she is a wiemeraner, i forget how to spell lol!. She is a big dog & eats anything!. A real ganet!. It's not me eating it though!. Plus the amount of people that excuse eating meat because animals eat it!. um can you see a lion eating on vegetables!? Do you THINK a thing as big as a lion could live on vegetables!. Animals are different from each other but COMPLETELY different to humans!. Animals are wild, animals do not know right/wrong, WILD!. W!.I!.L!.D, go figure!. And people who say that animals eat meat so its right for them to eat meat are just hypocrits because they'll probably also say that it's ok to eat meat cos they are more intelligent than animals, well if you're more intelligent, why aint you figured out that animals have feelings!. Sorry going off track here!. Animals are just as intelligent as humans in their own way, considering animals can do things that are humanly impossible, they can do things we can't as you can do things they can't!. You can NOT disagree with animal testing if you eat meat, what makes one right and the other wrong!? Plus, scientists say animals are being killed for meat anyway, THATS SO FUNNY, considering how they are the ones that EAT the meat!.
P!.S answering your question, its their choice, some tend to, some have a problem with preparing meat!.
Take care!. xoxWww@FoodAQ@Com

Dogs are true omnivores, they can eat almost anything but I wouldnt put a dog on a vegetarian diet I dont think its natural (I dont think its natural in people but thats another issue)!. My parents (both veggies) had no problem feeding my old dog offal and meat based dry food!.
Cats a different story, the above poster is right on the money!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think this varies from person to person!. A lot of vegetarians will feed their dog a vegetarian diet, but I personally dont think it is healthy for cats!. I am a vegan and I feed my cat meat, although I will say it is free range and from a highly recommended ethical company! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
When I next get a dog it will be fed on a veg diet!. They can survive and in fact thrive on a veg diet, especially if you think of what kind of meat they must put in dog food!.
Here's an interesting article about a 27 year old vegan dog!.!.!.
