It's possible, but in all honesty, the key to losing weight is eating less calories and increasing the calories you burn (exercise)!. Vegetarian and vegan diets are a healthy diet to adopt in the process of weight loss, but it's not the diet in itself that'll cause weight loss - potato chips and chocolate are vegetarian, after all, and we all know that's not diet food!.

On that note, I've read some excellent research that said vegans can eat 300+ more calories a day than people that eat meat but still maintain weight - so perhaps you could lose more weight as a vegetarian than as a meat-eater in the same time frame, while eating the same amount of calories and doing the same exercise!. The higher amounts of fiber and the metabolism-boosting benefits of vegan diets in particular are probably the reason!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As Allison said, meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegans are!. Adult vegans are, on average, 10 to 20 pounds lighter than adult meat-eaters!.

Vegetarian and vegan diets can be very helpful if you want to lose weight, but you still need to eat well -- make sure you're not eating tons of simple carbs or junk food!. It's good to include a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and whole grains!.

I personally lost 20 pounds on a vegan diet!.

Well becoming vegan would, because it takes almost EVERYTHING out of your diet completely, except for soy and such!.
I myself am vegetarian, and cannot see myself ever going vegan @_@!. I respect those that DO go vegan, it's very noble, but it is a real struggle!. I know plenty of people that break down within day[s]!.
I've noticed some changes in my weight and inches from being vegetarian, and it's in a pretty healthy way, if you put in some protein like eggs and peanut butter [which I do about each day]!.
The only thing is to stay away from those nasty sugars that WILL become a fantasy to you if you're a new vegetarian!. It's like a drug that summons you in since you can't have any meat!.
But after a bit, it WILL be easy to stay with the fruits and veggies =]!.
Let yourself cheat [sugar wise, not meat!] every once a week or so, though, or else you'll also get a little crazy [at first] ;-]Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, since vegan diets don't allow you to have things like dairy and eggs, you are cutting out fat from milk as well as cholesterol from eggs!. And you wouldn't be able to snack on doritos or cheetos or anything like that, so I'd imagine that you would lose more on the vegan diet!. However, I think you should just steer clear of white rice and breads, and get plenty of veggies!. also I've heard that having peanuts every day will help to prevent things like cancer, diabetes, and headaches ;)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're most likely to lose weight if you eat a healthy diet (no junk food, lots of veggies/fruits) and exercise!. Doesn't matter if you're a veggie/vegan/meat eater!. It's simple math: Burn more calories than you take in!.

Veggies/vegans can still be overweight!. You can eat tons of junk and still not be eating animal products!Www@FoodAQ@Com

First, exercise and balance your diet!. Even if you're a vegan, you're not going to lose weight by eating tons of sugars and fats!.
