I'm 13, and i'm thinking about going /vegetarian.?!

Question: I'm 13, and i'm thinking about going /vegetarian!.!?
I'm a strong believer in animal rights!. I want to tell my parents about going vegetarian, but I have some questions!. Is this dangerous at this age!? Should I see a doctor so I'll have to take protein pills or something!? Do you have to gradually do this or can you just say one day "NO MORE!"!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Good for you for believing in animal rights, and for being active in your beliefs!.

There isn't anything dangerous about being a vegetarian at any age provided that you are smart about it!. You will still need to get your protein, iron, some amino acids, and other vitamins/nutrients from other sources!.!.!. but that does not necessarily have to come in pill form!. There are a multitude of natural vegetables and fortified products that will suit you just fine!.!.!. you just have to do a little research is all!.

You don't need to see a doctor unless you have a specific food allergy that you need to beware of, or if you have a disease that mandates a certain diet, like diabetes!.!.!. but actually a vegetarian diet often helps diabetics!.!.!. again just make sure you are smart about it!.

Some people can go cold tofurkey, some can't!. It really depends on what you want to do!. I think it would be wise for you and your parents to discuss this, and come up with some balanced meal plans for you so that you can become a vegetarian and keep your good health!. Best of luck to you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Talk to your parents and find research!. This will show that you have a good understanding of what a vegeterian auctually is giving not only yourself but also your parents a better understanding!.

You should talk thought it with them so they can help you along with it aswell! It's also up to you if you want to start gradually or just go totally vegeterian!.

I suggest finding research and yes talking to your doctor or even a school nurse!. They will assist you along your way to becoming a vegeterian!

also don't worry about what other people think, they have their own life they can live it how they want!. It's none of their business if your a vegeterian or not!.

Good for you! The American Dietetic Association is one of the country's top nutrition experts and it supports vegetarian diets for all ages!. It says: "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence!."

Vegetarian sources of protein, iron, and calcium:

Doctors receive very little nutrition training, so you would be better off seeing a nutritionist!. It can be helpful, but it's not necessary if you eat a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains!.

Some people find it easier to go veg gradually, but it's also OK to do it overnight!. I became vegetarian overnight when I was 14 years old and didn't have any problems!.

Do your research, borrow some books on vegetarianism, and buy a veggie cook book or two!. A balanced vegetarian diet isn't dangerous at any age, but you need to know what your doing!. Your going to have to learn how to cook too, since it isn't right for you to expect your mom to cook one meal for you and another for the rest of the family!.

I'm a 52yo vegetarian, I don't take any "protein pills," or special vitamins!. If your eating a balanced diet there is no need for them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm 12 and I'm a vegetarian!. Iwould say it is safe to go vegetarian at this, when i did it there was no change for me!. But, now that I'm a vegetarian I take more vitamins just to make sure I get all the nutrients I need!. also, just tell your parents!. Explain to them why your becoming a vegetarian and they should just except it!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I said "NO MORE" about 5 weeks ago!. There are plenty of non-meat foods chock full of protein and other nutrients!

Be sure to take a daily multivitamin (whether or not you're becoming veggie)!. also, vegetarians and vegans need to take a daily B12 suppliment, thats all!.!.!.

no you can just become one it is not dangerous!. I am 15 now and was 14 when i became one and you can get protein from many other foods like nuts!. so you can just say no more because that is exactly what i didWww@FoodAQ@Com

You should "ask" your parents, not "tell" them!.

Remember also, they buy your groceries!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i quit at 14!.!.!.!.no its not dangerous!.!.!.!. u can eat beans and fake meat like morning star stuff and the grocery store 4 protein!.!.!. just say no, i did n im more than healthyWww@FoodAQ@Com

no no its fine im 13 and whent veggitairen bout 2months ago and i lost some weight but thhats all!.go to http://www!.morningstar!.com its great ask your parents mine totally agreed!.

p!.s good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

No!. I wouldn't!. I think sometimes people seem to care more about the Rights of animals more than that of people!. There's nothing wrong with eating meat!. The Good Lord put them on the Earth for us to eat!. Not eating meat would be wasteful, they would otherwise go without use!. also, being vegetarian can make your hair fall out from lack of vitamins i think, vitamin pills will not be the same!.
It's great you respect and like animals, I do to!. You just don't have to go to those extremes!. If you really love animals, help out at an animal shelter, adopt an abused animal, heck, work at Petco! But I wouldn't do that personally!.
Good Luck,
