Supermarket... Vegan/Vegetarian question?!
Do super market brands have the right to put "suitable for vegetarians and vegans" if the sugar they use in the product is filtered through animals(bone char)!?
Any links to sites with informations or any other help would be great!.
Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

In the UK, products that are labelled as vegan / vegetarian *must* be so!. If a non vegetarian food is falsely labelled a food suitable for vegetarians, it is an offence!.
The Foods Standards Agency says:
''Falsely describing, advertising or presenting food is an offence, and there are a number of laws that help protect consumers against dishonest labelling and misdescription''!.
However, it is important to remember this:
''But at present, there is no single legal definition of the terms 'vegetarian' or 'vegan' either at European or UK level!.
The 'Suitable for Vegetarians' logo is not regulated!. It is known as a 'voluntary claim', which means it is illegal for the labelling information to include anything that is false or likely to mislead''!.
In the UK at least, you can pretty much trust that if a food is stated to be suitable for vegans / vegetarians, it is almost certain it will be fine!.
Hope this helps =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Im almost positive they can't because to mark anything "Vegan" or "organic" it has to run throught many tests, so they wouldnt be able to put anything animal related!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well they definitely should NOT do that on 'vegan' products!.
