Meat or veg?!

Question: Meat or veg!?
Do Morning Star products count as a serving of meat (since they're protein) or vegetables (since they're from veggies)!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Realistically, the food pyramid is an over-simplified attempt at explaining a healthy diet to the American public!. Nutrition is actually more complex than that!. Food can't be divided into categories so strictly!.

For example!. a serving of whole wheat bread (which is technically in the "starch" group) has 9 grams of protein, the same as some legumes (which are technically in the "meat/protein" group)!.

The food pyramid isn't a perfect diet necessarily!. For example, many healthy vegans entirely cut out the dairy part of the pyramid; there are sources of those nutrients in other parts of the pyramid!. It's the same for people with a milk allergy!.

But, for all intents and purposes, Morning Star products count as a serving from the meat/eggs/beans/etc!. group!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would say both!. One protein and one vegetable!. I think they are made from vegetable protein!. If the product has 7 or more grams of protein, consider it a protein!. If one of the main (first) ingredients that are listed are vegetables or vegetable protein, it can be considered a vegetable!. If it is both, consider it both!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Morning Star products on the pyramid are in the meat group,so is Tofu and yes because of the protein!. And veggies are in the vegetable category!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians cut meat from their food pyramid!. You should calculate how much nutrition you are getting by percentages of nutrients, not by serving anyway!.

It's not meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
