Can you eat regular caesar dressing when your a vegetarian?!

Question: Can you eat regular caesar dressing when your a vegetarian!?
I have recently become a lacto-ovo vegetarian!. I figured out that caesar dressing has anchovy paste in it (embarrsing i didnt know already, i know) but im confused about it!. is it technically eating meat!. I'm fourteen and my dad said that it isn't actually the meat, but he is against my vegetarianism so i cant fully trust his word in this case ;)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes, it's considered eating meat and therefore not vegetarian!. You also may want to look out for gelatin, often found in yogurt, marshmallows, and some candies, which is made from ground up animal bones, muscles, and tendons!. Rennet, found mostly in cheeses, is the lining of a calf's stomach and therefore also not vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Can you!? Of course you can!. Vegetarians are humans and humans are omnivores!. Vegetarians however, are omnivores who choose to eat plants foods only!. "Can" and "choose" are two different words

Should you!? Perhaps not because as you have said, it has anchovies and anchovies are fish and fish are animals and therefor fish is meat!. As I hear often in this forum (and from certain reliable sources), vegetarians don't eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fish is an animal and it has to be dead to make it into a paste and put it in salad dressing!. And vegetarians don't eat dead animals!.

Your dad is either unaware of what vegetarianism means, or he doesn't respect your commitment to it!. Either way, don't worry about having made a mistake, just don't eat the caesar dressing anymore (you can find anchovy-free caesar if you look hard enough!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can't eat it and remain a vegetarian!.

BTW, wouldn't it make a nice change if (**) made an actual contribution to this board, instead of copying and pasting another user's answers and then taunting him for not being a vegetarian!?

Especially as s/he's not a vegetarian either!. Unimaginative, repetitive, tedious AND hypocritical - the whole package!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sorry to tell you this, but as a general rule Caesar salad dressing is unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans!. Just because the meat is in the form of a paste, liquid, or powder doesn't make it any less meat!.

However, some brands of Caesar do NOT use anchovy paste, which pretty much made my MONTH when I found that out!. Just check your ingredients, and when something says it uses "natural flavors" call the company, because chances are those "natural flavors" are fish meat!.

I feel your pain!.!.!.!.I pretty much went into depression myself when I found out about this!! Caesar salad is soooo good!

If you want to make it at home, here is a great recipe that is anchovy-free and vegetarian! It's really good actually!.!.!.!.

I hope that helps =)Www@FoodAQ@Com

oh man, im a veg and i eat caesar dressing all the time and never thought to read the label!! this is not good!. i didn't know there were fish particles, and eggs! thank you for bringing it to my attention!. i did a little research and yes, there are anchovies!. But apparently you can make your own w/out fish flesh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it came from a dead animal, it is not vegetarian!. For example, lots of cheeses contain animal rennet, which is taken from a calf's stomach so those cheeses are not appropriate either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's not vegetarian!. It has anchovy in it!. Anchovies are fish and vegetarians don't eat animal flesh!.

I'm not a vegetarian, just riding the bandwagon!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
