If your a vegan is it OK to have a leather couch?!
I'm not a vegan but was wondering if you could have a leather couch or leather shoes etc!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
No its not ok!.
A vegan is someone who seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose!.
So a leather couch or shoes is not allowed in the vegan lifestyle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They could but it would be unethical!. Changing their eating habits and claiming they care about animal welfare just isn't the same when you turn around and buy leather!. Animals die to make leather!.
Vegans are not supposed to consume animal products!. Buying something is consuming it!. That's why they call shoppers consumers!. When you buy a leather couch or shoes you tell the leather industry that you support them!. When that couch you bought leaves the store they will replace it with another and another!. That means more animals will have to be skinned!.
I think if someone wears or owns leather they really don't have a right to call themselves a vegan!. They would give the rest of us a bad name and confuse people!. also they would just be another person supporting the leather/meat industry!.

VEGAN

Etymology:
by contraction from vegetarian

: a strict vegetarian who consumes no animal food or dairy products; also : one who abstains from using animal products (as leather)

I don't think its a stupid question at all!.
Obviously not all vegans do exactly the same things but the basic principle of it is not using animal products!. Leather furniture or shoes or clothes are not vegan, but some vegans might use these things if they are second-hand, to avoid wasting!. While other vegans might not use even the second-hand items, thinking that doing so will promote leather and influence others to want to buy it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It would be a little hypocritical as you are then killing the animal just for its hide!. If an animal is to be slaughtered it makes sense to use as much of it as possible, be that for food or for clothing, but to be against the killing for food but to be okay with it for leather is illogical!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It depends on how far you want to go!. You can be a piscaparitan (!? Someone who eats fish, I mean) but does that mean it is cruel to keep pet fish!? And as you say, shoes, chairs and LOADS of other stuff is made from animal parts!. Lipstick has fish parts, sweets are made from pork geletin and hundreds of other things that you wouldn't even think about!.
I consider myself to be an omnivore, so if I can bring myself to eat it, I can bring myself to sit on it!. But would it make you a fake if you did buy a cow sofa!? Well, yes, I think so!. If you are going to be committed, then see it through!. But it is also fine if you don't eat meat, but like a comfy chair to sit on-as long as you aren't a preacher!. My sister doesn't eat meat, but still gives it to her kids!.
If you are a 'devout' vegan, then no you can't-and I would think a little bit less of them!. But each to their own!. Cow hide would still be a commodity if no one ate beef, so sofas would still be made! Good question!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh, think about it!. If you're vegan you do not use any form of animal product!. That means eat/wear/drink/sit on/whatever!. You have nothing to do whatsoever with animal products!.
That includes leather couches, which are vile anyway because they're either cold in the winter or hot and sticky in the summer!. And you have part of a dead thing in your living room!. Ew!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well seeing as they are so against them being killed although they prevent the nation starving and their products as it is "cruel"; do they not think that it is slightly hypocritical to have a sofa made from the very thing they refuse to eat!. eating meat is justified as it justified killing!. killing for
comfort!? is that right!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends how laid back you are!.
If you are laid back, go ahead!.
If you are strict, no!.
It all depends on what type of vegetarian you make yourself!.
I eat dairy products and products with eggs!. But I don't eat any sort of meat and avoid products that are tested on animals or harm animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends why you are a vegan!. If it is for ethical or animal welfare reasons I would say no!.
If it is for health or reasons of personal preference then I would say Yes!.
Just because you are a vegan it does not mean that you won't use animal products!. Just that you wont eat them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd imagine it'd be OK if you didn't personally buy it or if someone gave it to you or if it was going to be thrown away anyway!.
It would be more un-vegan to throw a leather couch away in the trash!. Thats like killing/wasting a cow (or several) life!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most wouldn't!.
If some owned it before they became vegan - they would continue to use it till it wore out!. Others wouldn't!.
Same thing goes with items of clothing!. Depends upon the individual!. It's the individuals call!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
