Can i get nutrional yeast in Traders joes? and what exactly is it?!
Answers:
I have been using it in my smoothies, but you wont find it at TJ, I get it from whole foods in the vitamin section!. It sells for 19!.99 for 22!.oz!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Nutritional yeast is a dried yeast that is sprinkled on foods!. Vegetarians/vegans eat it to get their B12!. Yes, you can probably get it at Traders Joes!.
FYI: B12 is only found in animal products!. Vegans have a hard time getting B12 if they don't take daily supplements!. Yeast is a type of fungus and most vegans are willing to get it from this source!.
Edit: Maggie, bacteria ARE animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've never seen nutritional yeast at Trader Joe's!.
Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast that is rich in nutrients, some of which include B12!.
Fortunately, there are plenty of non-animal product sources of B12- it is not really an animal food thing!. B12 is made by bacteria, our own bodies make plenty of B12 in our colons but it is simply made too far down to be absorbed!.
Herbivorous animals still need to ingest B12 like we do, but because non-human animals tend to be less hygenic than we are, they have contact with their waste (we excrete plenty of B12), and they eat unwashed plants (bacteria that makes B12 can sometimes flourish on the unwashed surface of plants - lab tests show that picking and eating unwashed, ripe tomatoes from your yard gives you B12, while eating the chemical, pesticide-riddled, triple-rinsed tomatoes from the store won't)!.
If you are switching to a vegetarian diet now, you probably have 10-30 years of B12 stored in your body anyway!.
Meat is an adequate source of B12 because meat crawls with bacteria and pathogens anyway, what is some good B12 from bacteria on top of it all!? If you look online at the content of B12 in most meat, the only truly adequate source of B12 are mussels, followed by cow liver (we store our B12 in our livers too)!. Where did the cow get it though!? Once again, plants!. Chicken, pork and many cuts of beef are POOR sources of B12!.
Nutritional yeast either naturally has the B12 caused by this bacteria or is supplemented!. If you can't get it for your B12, try supplements, which are taken from the bacteria (you don't need animal products for it!.
BETTY: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!!?!
Please look up the basic kingdoms of life!. Animals are seperate from plants, bacteria and fungus!. Trust me on this one, considering that I have paid tens of thousands of dollars so far in biology and pathogen-related coursework!.
Here is a very basic webiste that describes the difference:

If you remember 2nd grade, this is the basic "six kingdoms of life part"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
