Hey!.

Il try and help you out, with listing what they can eat, how they live there everyday lives, and giving recipes and loads more useful things that will help you out on becoming a vegan!.

Vegans enjoy all kinds of plant foods - like fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes (beans, lentils and split peas) - and fungi (mushrooms, yeasts), and food made from these!. Vegans choose not to eat any foods derived from living or dead animals - no meat of any kind (no red meat, poultry, white meat, fish etc!.), no animal milks (no cow's dairy products, nor sheep, goats etc!.), no eggs, no honey, nor any other animal products (no gelatin, cochineal, shellac etc!.)

Finding vegan food is easier than it's ever been!. You can now buy vegan cheese, vegan chocolate, vegan ice-cream, vegan mayonnaise, vegan sausages, vegan yoghurt, vegan haggis!.!.!.the choices are endless!.

You can find all this kind of stuff in health stores such as holland and barret, and you can find some vegan meat in supermarkets (sainsburys, tescos etc)!.

Some of my favorite vegan brands are:

A vegans life style

Like any other form of diet, some vegan diets are more nutritionally complete than others!. White bread, hydrogenated margarine and chips qualify as a vegan meal, but too many such meals will remove the usual benefit of a vegan diet in reducing risk of heart disease!. Bananas are a healthful food in moderation, but anyone trying to live on bananas alone is headed for deficiency in about ten important nutrients!.

Alot more about this, and to make sure you get all the right nutrients (protein, iron, zinc, calcium, b12, etc) here is a helpful site that shows you where you get all these vital vitamins - http://www!.vegansociety!.com/food/nutriti!.!.!.

congratulations on choosing a potentially healthy lifestyle!. the best way to eat vegan is to eat very little in the way of processed foods!. by cooking more things for yourself, instead of relying on packaged foods, you can ensure that you know exactly what's in it!. this means a lot less dining out as well!.

also, i would encourage ANYONE going vegan or even vegetarian to take a basic nutrition course!. going into this uneducated can lead to serious problems!. certain vitamin deficiencies can cause brain damage (B12, for example - and i don't mean just a 'little' brain damage!.!.!. i know a guy who now has slurred speech and everything from eating as an 'ignorant' vegan!. please, arm yourself with knowledge!. vegan can be VERY healthy, but only if you know what you're doing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I understand what you mean!. I too found it difficult to cut all egg and dairy things out my diet!. I did it cold turkey though because I could not support the meat industry for one more minute after I saw www!.meat!.org!.

When I see eggs or milk as an ingredient on a package all I can think of is the torturous lives animals have to live to make those ingredients!.

I find that dwelling on what I won't eat is harder than just concentrating on the things I can have and feel good about!. There are tons of foods that don't contain animal products!.

Products with eggs are milk don't include them because it makes them taste better!. Those products are used because they are cheap and plentiful!.

Though some vegetarian/vegan products may be slightly more expensive, but that is because they are better quality and don't contain cruel animal products, which makes them healthier!.

I don't know about you, but I would rather eat a smaller portion of a higher quality snack or food than eat a ton of something that is cheap and not as good!.

In the beginning I had to go back and watch www!.meat!.org two more times to remind me of why I changed my eating habits!. I didn't do it because I was starting to crave meat or animal products, I did it to comfort myself about stress and sadness I felt for the way people were treating me for my choice of becoming vegan!.

The best advice I can give you is research all of the good things you can have!. Fine recipes and brands that are good for vegans and try them!.!.!.Don't give up if you don't like them at first!. It takes time to get used to a new way of eating!.

Good luck and stick to it!. Once you get used to it, it will become easier and easier until it just comes naturally!. Good question!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

One great book is called Skinny B***h in the Kitch!. It's written by two women who are Vegan (they wrote Skinny B***h)!. It has all vegan recipes that are wonderful! It's hard being vegan (I am not vegan, but tried it for a while)!. And the easiest way to incorporate it (for me) was to do it gradually!. You just start doing little things, like buying soy milk instead of regular milk, soy cheese, etc!. And the hardest thing to not have is eggs- but you'll eventually find recipes that you can use that don't use eggs!. One great recipe to try if you like brownies-- Take a box of brownie mix, and a can of vegetarian black beans!. Puree' the beans, and then mix the pureed beans with the brownie mix!. Follow the recipe as directed (except don't use the oil, eggs or water- the beans act as those ingredients) You wont' notice the difference, an they're vegan and fat free! Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's great you're thinking about going vegan!. There are a lot of vegan fake meats and non-dairy products available these days, like vegan cream cheese and soy yogurt!. Here's a list of some popular products: http://www!.vegcooking!.com/guide-favs!.asp

I use the fake meats and dairy replacements to make vegan versions of my favorite non-veg foods!. For instance:

-Pasta with tomato sauce and Nate's Meatlless Meatballs
-Quesadillas, pizza, and grilled cheese with soy cheese
-Tofu scramble instead of scrambled eggs
-Sub with Tofurkey Deli Slices and Vegenaise (vegan mayo)
-Bean burritos with Tofutti Sour Supreme (vegan sour cream)

Health food stores like Whole Foods usually have a decent selection of vegan foods!. After awhile, being vegan just becomes part of your daily routine!.

You might want to spend a month (or more) gradually transitioning!. It doesn't have to be an overnight, all-or-nothing switch!. And even if you decide not to be vegan, just eating fewer eggs would have a really big impact!. Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I didn't find it too hard to become vegan!.
It just means having to give up a lot processed foods!.!.!.which aren't good for me anyway!. Since I was already a vegetarian for health reasons (among many others), it was easy to give up those types of food!.
I eat at home a lot and cook my own foods!. I enjoy fresh veggies and fresh fruit!. I eat whole grains and read the packages carefully!.
www!.vegcooking!.com has a good food guide that will let you know what everyday products are suitable for vegans!. That might help you get started!
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
