Who grows their own vegetables?!
Answers:
Not me, but I might but that upside down tomato grower!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My husband grows a few different vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and onions!. We really don't have a lot of room!. What he is growing now is contained in plastic buckets!.
When we buy our own house we plan to get one with a big yard so we can have a really large garden with a lot more vegetables!.
A great secret to having the best vegetables is to start from seeds!. Before the growing season you can start them indoors in peet pots!. That's what we do!.!.!.It's cheaper and you have more varieties to choose from!. My husband orders his seeds from an organic heirloom catalog!. You can get all sorts of free catalogs online!. He pays only a couple of dollars a pack!. He ordered 4 packs of seeds for around 10!.00 and we had over a hundred seed grow into plants!.
We gave away the plants we didn't have room for and planted the rest!.
The only advice I can give you past that is use good soil like miracle grow!. Make sure the plants are planted outside after the last frost too!. Put the plants in an area that gets the proper amount of sunlight according to the plant's requirements, which are listed on the original seed packet!. Make sure the plant gets plenty of water and water at night so the sun doesn't steal all the water!.
I hope that helped you!. You can e-mail me if you have need anything explained more!. Planting your own vegetables is both cost effective and healthy!. It's fun too!Www@FoodAQ@Com

My husband and I grow our own veggies!. Only 3 years have we been doing this, and we've not had to buy any of the veggies we grow since the very start! Our success is due to careful research before we start!. There are many great books plus the info on seed pkts, not to mention your local nurseries/co-ops have tons of free info! We only choose veggies that do well in our growing zone, use our own organic compost, and spend time gardening each day!. It's really not as complicated as some people may have you think!.!.!. and it not only saves A LOT of money and provides the freshest produce, but it gives you a wonderful feeling to know that you've done it on your own!Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm slowly learning, thanks to my husband the green thumb!. It's container gardening, so he says to buy the Miracle Gro potting soil, make sure the container has drainage, not to bother with putting pottery shards in the bottom, and after they're planted to shove a B vitamin in the soil!. Water, then leave them alone until the soil looks dried and you can push a finger about an inch into the soil and it's dry, then water!. It works like a charm! He said my problem was I was over-watering, just to leave them alone!. I can't wait to have beans, red bell peppers, jalapenos on demand!. I can even harvest my herbs already!. (This not just a hobby, but offsetting the rising food prices!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com
work - patience - listen to good advices - read good books -
have a calendar in your head - be very organized -
and : be very GREEDY and learn how to make your compost, how to fight against illness with free tips - etc etc
Organize and exchange with your neighbours !.
If you spend too much money on your garden, you are not a gardener - just an obeying consumer -
Some of my rules - Twenty years passionate gardener
You give thumbs too quickly - this is not the best sign for a gardener
@What's a good soil - every kind of soil, acid or basic, sand or silicium or whatever, has its pros and cons - I've been working on the same 2000 sqft allotment for 15 years - basically it was a horrible "plough-soil" hard and sticking and in some places STERILE -
In most of the cases gardeners have to correct their soil, depending acidity ( test-sets exist ) and consistence - sand in some cases , dead leaves, compost are your allies -
I must tell you that after 15 years the soil works now in a very normal way - but noticed that I respect cycles, eg potatoes on four years must "turn" otherwise exhaust - respect the rules of good and bad neighbouring ( of plants ;o))) ) etc -
I hope you get the same virus as me - and consider that gardenning is a passion in which intelligence is not a stranger!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
