I want to be a vegetarian, but I love meat and dairy!

LOL!.!.!. I laugh because I can relate! I've been veg since 2006 and trust me, I KNOW that a good burger or some crab legs dipped in hot butter TASTE fabulous!.!.!. but then I think about the cruelty and the slaughter!.!.!. and ultimately, I chose to turn away from meat!.

Yes, I still think a steak on a hot grill smells great, but would I eat it!.!.!.no way!

I have a small dog I absolutely ADORE!.!.!. and I can't see cooking her up!.!.!. and really, a cute little cow!.!.!. slaughtered just so people can get their veal parmesean!.!.!. its absurd to me!. That is so messed up!Www@FoodAQ@Com

People become vegetarians not because they don't like meat or dairy, but because they love animals and know how much they have to suffer to get to someone's plate!. You need to think about why you wanna be a vegetarian, and if you're actually finding it hard to stay away from meat and dairy, you're either not ready to become a vegetarian or wanting to be one for the wrong reasons!. Think of WHY you wanna become one!. Don't do it because you think it's cool, don;t do it because you know someone who is!. Just do it because you want to and if you really want you will be able to find yourself wondering why you even liked meat and dairy in the first place!.

If the videos PETA has on their sites with proof of the animal cruelty don't do it for you, honey don't waste your time!.

The next time you go grocery shopping, grab a lot of vegetarian stuff and just make it a point to have at least 1 veggie meal daily at first!. Get used to it and go to 2 meals daily, the next week!. Eventually you'll know how to cook vegetarian meals and you shouldn't miss the meat or dairy!. That is, of course, if you're not going into it for the wrong reasons!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As someone else pointed out, you have to ask yourself why you want to be veg!. And then you have to decide if those reasons outweigh your love for meat and dairy!.

There are lots of analogues out there--veggie burgers, veggie dogs, veggie deli slices, veggie crumbles!. You can make your own seitan and make "steaks"!. Don't bother with the packaged seitan--it's overpriced and tastes awful!. Many vegan cookbooks have recipes for making your own seitan, but I suggest you use Vital Wheat Gluten to save time!. As long as you aren't wheat intolerant or celiac, seitan is a great substitute!.

Tempeh is good marinated and grilled or sauteed or crumbled into stews and chilis!. It's an Indonesian food made of fermented soybeans!. It's got a nutty chewy taste and texture!.

Tofu, a!.k!.a!. soybean curd, can be tricky!. It takes practice to get right, but try the tips in my profile to avoid the mushiness!.

Eat a rich variety of foods and someday you'll discover you don't miss the meat at all!.

As for dairy, if you want to be ovo-lacto, that's your decision, but there are dairy substitutes, even for ice cream!. And vegan baking is easier than ever!. Sadly, nobody has come up with a great vegan cheese, but that's only a problem if you're a cheese freak, and I never was!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't have that good of advice but,

You can still use dairy products unless if you are a vegan!. There are different types of vegetarians!. Just keep on reminding yourself what a hige difference you are making!. go on www!.youtube!.com and type in slaughterhouse and that will spped along the process!.

DON'T lean yourself off of meat because you will say to yourself well if I just can have one more or I don't want to quit then it won't work you just have to quit cold turkey!.

There are subsitutes for meat that taste like meat but is not!. The main brands are boca and morning star!. also it doesn't taste like meat but you can use tofu for a lot of things!. Hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegetarians can eat dairy but not meat!. There are a lot of faux meats available these days, like veggie burgers and veggie "chicken" strips!. Just stop eating meat!. Its not that hard!. There are many tofu foods that taste practically the same as meat, but are more healthy and better for the animals!. There are chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs ect!. that taste like meat! Try it out for at least two months!. If you still cant do it then I guess eat meat!. Well You'll Have To Get Used To The Fact That You Can't Eat Much Meat I Suppose!. I Would Recommend To Start By Eatting Less Meat And More Vegtables , Fruits And Grains Than Meat!. If You Stop All At Once It Could Affect Your Health In A Bad Way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
