Where do your loyalties lie?!

Question: Where do your loyalties lie!?
In an earlier question about animal testing and health care at least one answerer claimed that they would refuse potentially life saving medical treatment if the medicine or procedure were still being tested on animals!. Though I'm sure the tune would change if actually faced with that decision I wanted to ask a follow up question:

If you and a complete stranger were both dying of the same thing and there was only enough medicine (NOT tested on animals) to save one of you, would you refuse the treatment so that the other may live!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
D***! Now THAT is a good question!.

Honestly, it would depend on the complete stranger!. I know you can't "know" a complete stranger, but you can make a quick assessment!. Let's say the stranger was 50+ years old (I'm in my early 20s), in that instance, I would probably keep the meds for myself!. Otherwise I would probably follow the "rule" of women and children first!. If the stranger was another guy, I would probably take it if I were younger by at least a decade, otherwise, we would have to fight it out (I mean that in the literal sense of the word)!. If we were both trying to give it to the other, well!.!.!. a coin toss would decide things!.

It seems my answer to both questions was, "It depends on the situation"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, this very much sounds like a plot from a "Saw" movie!.

Anyway, I would need to know more, is the other person a wife beating, hunting, child abuse scum!? or he or she the next Ghandi!?

also, is this person being selfish or selfless in taking the drug!. How much considered are they giving to me!?

Is this person injuried due to self infliction or by accident!? What did I do wrong to need the drug, was it some crazy drunken night out, or did i have cancer!?

Honestly, I would have to know so much more before I can say whom should take this drug - in your made up situation!?

Now the quesiton we are really asking, - would i take human life if i am so opposed to taking an animals life!. see there is a difference the animal is innocent, where as the other person, - well we do not know that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if there was enough medicine for one, i'd take it for myself!.

reason: it's a complete stranger!. They could be a rapist or a killer etc!. Then again, they could be a saint!.

And if there was only one medicine, i wouldn't be allowed to make that choice!. I'd obviously be baised!. a medical proxy would have to be chosen!.

but yeah, it's a complicated choice!. But i'd always opt for myself, because you just don't know who you'd be saving, and i know for a fact that i'm not THAT bad =]

EDIT: I'd like to add that i'm only 18, and therefore i'm both self-centered and i'd have a pretty good chance of living longer than the other person!. if i were much older than them, perhaps i would change my mind!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, risking your life to save another is pretty much ultimately the most courageous, nicest things you can do!. Even if that person was not the nicest or the greatest person in the world I'd still do it, because for them to see someone die so that they could live, I would hope change their outlook on things and life in general!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It would depend on their age and what they have or have not done!. If they were rapists or drug addicts ten I would take it myself!. Screw them!.!.!.

If the person was a good hearted and a kind person throughout his or her life then I would let them have it!. Hands down!.

Only because I have experienced enough in life and I can honestly say I have led a good life!. Whether I'm 34 or not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think this kind of addresses what you're getting at:
http://ar!.vegnews!.org/your_child_or_your!.!.!.

That's a tough situation, one that I've never experienced and most likely won't experience in the future!. I would probably do what I needed to do in order to survive!. Of course, I would consider the other person's circumstances!. If the person were a single mom with five kids, for example, I would be more inclined to let her have the medicine!.

Accepting treatment for my illness wouldn't somehow make it OK to do painful experiments on that person, though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, first I'm not sure that this question belongs here!. It seems more a humanitarian issue!. Still, I shall answer!.

I would, frankly, not refuse at this time!. I have too much in my life worth staying around for to give it away!. If I'd been asked this question ten years ago, my answer would probably have been different; it's the same with me an animal-tested medicine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A stranger No, But after I thought it over I might mentally weigh the circumstances !.I am not afraid of death, it is pain I don't like, If the other had person was more valuable in life had young children or they supported other people I think I might choose the other way the one stipulation is NO PAIN!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No way to split the medicine, and each take half!?

Depends!. If he were my moral twin, we would either end up fighting over it or both dying to save the other!. Those are the only fair solutions!. Either that or rock, paper, scissors!. Talk about an intense game of rock, paper, scissors!. Sheesh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fantastic question!.

As much as I value the life of every living thing, I value mine so much more, and if offered a life saving drug, animal tested or not I would take it!. God helps those who help themselves!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honestly, I would TAKE the treatment!. I have to live!. I need to be here for my 2 kids!. I'm a single Mom, they need me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would let the other person have the medicine!.

Not because I am a 'wonderful' person - or 'generous'!.

I would do it because - I just would!.

I have had some ground splitting lows in my life and would love to have the chance to do them over or not at all!. But I also have had some of the most awsome and awe inspired highs in life that are the kind that many people never will experience and only dream about!.

I am older, 54!. I have had a full life!. I have left a mark on this world and have had a positive effect upon countless people!. I would love to do more - but not at the option of another to lose their life!.

I am one of 40 grandchildren from both sides of my family!. I have three wonderful children, 8 grandchildren - what better example of what it really means to be willing to give!? It isn't like I am sure that I wouldn't have time to talk to them and explain to them my choice!.

I have traveled the world, done so many of the things that I wanted to do - skydiving, repel down mountains, hike up mountains, ride motorcycles for hundreds of miles at a times to see all sorts of wonderful sites!. I have swam in over 4 different oceans/seas, met 3 Presidents!. Even the bad experiences have something good within them - they showed me what I didn't want in life - and I learned!. I have loved and been loved!. Not a bad life!.

My personal morals kicking in!. To live after knowing that I could have saved another - would be harder than facing death!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan and I'm completely against *non-essential* animal testing, like cosmetics and that sort of stuff!. But when it comes to medical testing its definitely a conflict of conscience!.

But being vegan is not about being a martyr, it is about minimising as far as you can your contribution to animal suffering and exploitation!.

I guess in an ideal world, no we would NOT be testing on animals!. In reality you have to take a more utilitarian approach and weigh up the benefits vs the disadvantages and aim to minimise harm and maximize good!.

I suspect there are some idealists out there who say they completely oppose ALL forms of animal testing!. But I suspect most, if not all of them have taken some sort of drug or pharmaceutical which has been tested on animals!. Just think of all the lives that have been saved!.

I support only *essential* medical research!. We may need to reform regulations or restrict the number of animals used in such research!. But medical testing has the potential to save countless lives!.

::ADD:: if it's about my health, I will definitely take the medication!. I can't support the cause if I'm dead!. I can make more of a difference to the cause if I'm alive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are talking about my answer to that question, I did not say I would definitely refuse treatment!. I said I would have to make a decision then!. I also said that if it is not being tested on animals anymore then I would take it!. Read the answer more thoroughly please if you have a problem with it!.
As for this question, it would depend on who the person was and how important their lives are!. If it is some a hole who doesn't give a crap about anyone but themselves, or they are a horrible person and whatnot then I would take the drug!. If it were someone with kids, or is a good person, or one who does good things in life and things like that then I would give it to them!. I do not see my life as being more important than other peoples either (except for serial killers and people like that:)!. I have risked my own life to help others, humans and animals!. Death will come one day to all of us, and honestly I don't really like this world anyway and most of the time I see death as peace!. I am not scared of dying, well dying young I am but not dying on the whole:)
Just because someone cares about animals in no way means that they don't care about humans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
