Why are you not vegan?!
This question is mostly directed at vegetarians who are "animal rights activists" but meat eaters are free to answer as well I suppose!.
What are your reasons for not being a vegan!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
What are your reasons for not being a vegan!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
I am! I'm a vegan because, like you, I saw it as the logical peak of my feelings about animal rights and living a cruelty free lifestyle!.
I agree that there is as much cruelty in the use of dairy products and eggs as there is in the meat industry and to be honest, I don't miss either!. I'm just back from the Bristol Vegan Fayre, the most wonderful, happening and beautiful bunch of people were there and we had a great time!.
I think vegetarians who do it for moral reasons rather than just food taste reasons need to look into veganism a bit more and at least give it a go for a month!. That's what I did and I'd never go back now!.
I'm not an animal rights activist, in that I don't engage in protests or direct action, but I support organisations that inform and assist like Animal Aid and the Vegan Society and the Dr Hadwen Trust!.
I guess I'm not who you wanted to answer this question, but I wanted you to know there are vegans out here who do feel that vegetarianism is "fence sitting" in terms of living cruelty free!.

I'm not vegan because I don't have a problem with eating meat or animal products if I know that no animals experienced suffering for my comfort!. I do not equate a quick, painless death after a life of relative ease and comfort with suffering!. I eat meat or animal products with the Certified Humane Raised and Handled label because I've read the standards for attaining it, I trust the veterinarians who do the inspections for this non-profit organization and I believe that the animals live well and the ones used for meat die well!. I'll probably get a million thumbs-down for this but, hey, I get to eat meat, drink milk AND go to sleep at night without guilt!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm a meat eater so let me say, that I have contemplated being vegetarian, but don't thinkI could stick to it!.
I enjoy food and for me, meat is a given!. I like it and I believe people were intended to eat meat!.
I do make an effort to avoid veal because of what the baby cows endure!. I'm also supportive of free-range meats and those are my preference when I can get them!. I'm also all for better standards of treatment for animals before they get to my plate!.
As for not being vegan - I'm not trying to knock anyone, but I don't really grasp the concept at all!. I understand not eating meat!. But honey!? That doesn't kill a bee in order to be produced!. Or cheese!? No cows/goats die during cheese production!. I do understand not eating the eggs!. But to be brutally honest, I don't get the no use/consumption of animal products that didn't really harm the animal in the process of being made - as far as my concept of harming them goes!.
And it probably doesn't help me that I'm allergic to a number of vegetables & beans :(Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do understand where they're coming from!. On the other hand, you don't need to kill a cow, goat, sheep to get milk and chickens lay eggs!. You can buy cheese which does not involve the juices from a cows stomach to make cheese, so I'm a bit confused about the vegan thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
because animal fat and by products like milk and cheese are great for nutrition and development, they also taste great!.
And just because plants can't scream doesn't mean its not a living thing as well that lives, grows, and breathes!.
I do wish that the animals were treated better though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because vegan food does not meet my nutritional needs!.
My vegan friends, who are always nagging others about this diet, are thin, pale, have no muscles, have weird fuzzy hair on their bodies, are spotty and have (some of them) mental troubles like forgetfulness and fearfulness!.
They also cry more than normal people (even the men)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I was ill when I was a vegan!. I only buy organic milk, and free range eggs, as I know these animals have been treated properly!. In fact, I buy my eggs from a friend who does not kill them afterwards!. I personally believe animal products are ok to eat, but its not ok to eat animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
im a complete vegetarian!.!.!. but i do eat dairy and eggs!.
i wont buy big brand milk because the cows are treated bad!. so i buy it from more local places !.!.!. that way i know the cows are happier!.
also i buy olny cage free egs because i know the chickens arent cooped up in little cages and they are free to do whatever they want!.!.!.
i hope this was a good answer to your question :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

surely im not eating at home milk ,eggs or chesse but sometimes when im social some could contain a little trace of milk ,cheese or eggs (like a coffee at starbucks were is no soy avalaible,or a souffle at any coffee shop or even a homemade cookie) very hard to avoid if friends invites!.!.!.!.still very hard to prove friends and family there is nothing wrong with being a vegetarianor vegan !.!.!.!.very hard!.!.!.!.as they smarts us!.!.!.!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because I have to eat gluten free and would be even MORE limited if I were a vegan!. I imagine a lot of people are turned off by the fact that they can't eat socially very easily if they become vegan!.!.!.that's what my formerly vegan friends have come up against!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am, but unlike you I am not perfect and I dont have digs at vegetarians!
Your question comes across as you are having a go at veggies, especially with the quote, I think by the answers I am not not the only one who has read it this way, with respect xWww@FoodAQ@Com

I don`t like the taste of red meat, I don`t like the thought of animals being killed for food but we have been meat eaters since we came out of the trees, basically I am a vegetarian but not for the obvious reasonsWww@FoodAQ@Com
Everyone is entitled to their own decision!. We should not be criticising others for not sharing identical beliefs as us!. Not all animal activists or vegetarians are aspiring vegans!. We should stop bickering amongst our selves and support one another!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
milk gives me energy!.!.i have already cut down my consumption of most other dairy foods but i must have 2 glasses of lowfat chocolate milk 6 days a week!.!.!.it helps my cardiovascular performance at the gym!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
because right now i'm happy being a vegetarian!. if i make the transition in the future, great!. if not, i'm not going to pretend like i'm not still doing my part!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Cos it doesn't involve killing a living animal!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because veganism doesn't appeal to me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
it isn't what you eat that defiles the temple,it's what comes out of your mouth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Mind your own business, I dont question your beliefs, dont question mine!. How rudeWww@FoodAQ@Com

because i love meat! and cant live without itWww@FoodAQ@Com
Because I could never give up bacon sandwichesWww@FoodAQ@Com

hehehe, now the vegans are picking on each other!? I am not vegan because meat tastes great!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because it's a set of personal beliefs that I don't have!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am not a vegan because most animals were given to us to raise nurture and then eat!. I however am very picky about the meat that I do consume!. I only eat Kosher meats, knowing that the animal was treated and killed humanely!.
