I have a friend who says shes a 'vegetarian' but she eats fish, I asked her why and she said "Because fishes arent meat"
I just rolled my eyes!.!.
Whether they like it or not, I call them Pescetarians because no creature on this earth should be killed for food!.
Edit : I agree with you 100%!.!. People who eat fish shouldnt call themselves 'vegetarians'

NO vegetarian eats fish, whatsoever, end of story!.
Pescetarians are NOT vegetarians, they are meat-eaters with a more limited diet than average!. I don't understand the impetus to hurt some animals, but not others personally, but I suspect a lot of people go pescetarian more for health reasons than ethical reasons!. Or they are ignorant of the ills of fish farming, aquaculture and commercial fishing!.
I do absolutely agree with the person who said it's far better that pescetarians are choosing to do something to reduce animal cruelty, rather than the nothing that most people are doing!. Every little bit does help!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What somebody eats is their business, but I hate it when people call themselves "vegetarian" and eat animals!.
I have heard people do that since the 1960s, and I don't think they're ever going to go away!.
The word "vegetarian" is losing it's meaning because of them!. I don't even use the word to describe myself unless I'm around people from India or Hare Krishna members!. Otherwise, people are going to assume I eat fish or chicken, so I just say "I don't eat animals!." But I don't bring it up unless it's absolutely necessary!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The reason that people make false claims and claim titles and similar things in life that are not true is - because they have a need to be accepted by a group - or at the least attempt to 'fit' within a group for acceptance - even if it is false!. During my lifetime, I have seen more than a few people fall into do such on differnet points within their life!. So - not that this is going to make you feel better - but at least you know that things haven't really changed much through out the years!.
Those that are vegetarian don't eat animals!. The def!. found within the dictionary is pretty clear on that point - some just have a problem evidently understanding the words!.
It would be different if people would say that they are 'working towards becoming' or 'attempting to become' vegetarian - but then those that have problems with stretching the truth to the point of breaking aren't going to get the title that they feel that they need to 'fit'!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a pescatarian (never called myself that before!.!.!.I always used to say that the only meat I eat is fish!.) I fully believe that fish are animals and would love to not have them in my diet!.
However, I hate cheese (have tried to like it for nearly 30years and it's just not happening) and am not overly keen on pulses, certainly could not eat them as part of my main diet!. I was a vegetarian until I became so tired working full time and looking after my 6month old daughter so I was eventually convinced that I should eat fish for protein!. I felt better physically but not emotionally!.
My daughter eats meat as I believe it should be her choice when she's older if she wants to be vegetarian!. I do make sure though, that all the meat I give her is organic and free range so I feel like I'm doing something positive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

As you already know by now, vegetarians don't eat fish!. Some call themselves vegetarian and eat fish or poultry, but they are technically incorrect!.
If they are "vegetarian" for health reasons only, they might think eating fish is acceptable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

people say that because they are simply misinformed and getting wrong information sort of like what you just stated above!. You are saying the pescetarians are vegetarians that eat fish!. Pescetarians are not any sort of vegetarian because vegetarians do not eat fish or any other animal for that matter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Some people tell me I'm wrong because I say I'm a Pesci-vegetarian ( the reason i am is because I have fish on certain occasions ), and that I'm really a pescatarian!. I find no difference in how you say the name!. Pesci-vegetarian and pescatarian mean the same thing ( http://www!.kidshealth!.org/kid/stay_healt!.!.!. clearly says there is such thing as a pesci-vegetarian )!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because some people don't class it as meat!.!.!.they class meat as flesh from land animals!
I think its silly really, I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat fish!. Perhaps they just like fish or don't get enough vitamins ect from other things!.!.!.still remains they shouldn't say they're vegetarians!.!.!.perhaps they should just call themselves pescatarians all the time and explain it when people get confused!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not everyone who is a vegetarian is one for political reasons!. Sometimes it is a dietary choice or a personal preference!. I have a dear friend how considers herself a pescatarian, not because she opposes meat in general, but she feels it will keep her healthier!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
fish are the only animals that are rarely abused during their death day!. their expiration is quick and painless, unlike mammals that are abused and suffer before their end!. im a vegan and don't eat fish, but i kind of see what some people think!. <3Www@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetarians don't eat fish!. I guess pescatarians do eat fish because they would rather do something for the welfare of animals, i!.e!. not eat meat or contribute to factory farming, than do nothing!. Every bit helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I guess because some people fast on Fridays by only having fish for meat, since in the Bible it says that Jesus turned a loaf of bread and one fish into a feast for everyone!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My Mother-in_law is also a fake vegetarian!. She'll eat fish and chicken and claim that it's vegetarian!.!.!.!.!.err, no, it isn't!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetarians should not eat fish, but doing so wouldn't make them non-vegetarian!. Anyway, I wouldn't carp about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yeah, that really bugs me!. Someone once said to me that they are vegetarian but they eat chicken and fish!. I was just like!.!.!. 'How is that vegetarian then!?'

Pescetarianism is a dietary choice, in which a person — known as a pescetarian — eats fish or other non-mammalian aquatic animals but will not eat terrestrial animals or marine mammals!. Some animal products like eggs and dairy may be part of a pescetarian diet!.
Terms like pesco-vegetarianism are sometimes used to describe pescetarianism, to emphasize that pescetarians abstain from eating the flesh of land animals!. However, these terms are controversial and lesser-used, in part because they imply that pescetarianism is a type of vegetarianism!. The Vegetarian Society, which initiated popular use of the term vegetarian as early as 1847, does not consider pescetarianism a valid vegetarian diet!. Some other entities accept pescetarianism as a valid vegetarian diet, including MedicineOnline!.com, Vegetarian!.LifeTips!.com, and the Centre for Cancer Education!. The definitions of "vegetarian" in authoritative, mainstream dictionaries vary!.
One of the most commonly cited reasons is that of health, based on findings that red meat is detrimental to health in many cases due to non-lean red meats containing high amounts of saturated fats!. Furthermore, eating certain kinds of fish raises HDL levels, and some fish are a convenient source of omega-3 fatty acids, and have numerous health benefits in one food variety!.
It can be claimed conversely that fish also contain toxins such as mercury and PCBs, though a careful selection of fish can ensure a low-risk or toxin-free product!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are different levels of being a vegetarian!. Some eat fish, some eat eggs, some drink milk some even eat poultry!.
Including fish in a diet also gives one a wonderful low-fat protein source, which is often lacking in true vegetarian diets (it doesn't have to be, it just often is)!.
For dietary reasons fish is usually in a different category from meat, which includes only red meat!. Take the CDC's food pyramid as an example!.
But from a taxonomy view point you are right, someone who eats fish would not be a true vegetarian!.
Perhaps you've heard it said that "fish don't have feelings!?" Biology supports this to some degree, and humans cannot easily read the emotions of fish!. Even an onion might be sad that it is dying, who knows!? But we relate more strongly to creatures more like us!. One could ask why make the cutoff animals, we don't know that plants don't have feelings!.
The ethical cutoff line for what is okay to eat varies from person to person and from culture to culture!. Even a meat eater would likely object to eating an animal they normally associate with being a household pet!. Eating a cow might be okay, but in the United States most would object to eating dogs or cats!. Certainly the eating of some meat is even illegal (other humans for instance)!. It is what people relate to and consider worthy of respect!.
I have also heard of vegetarians not eating certain plants do to more evolved nervous systems!. So choosing to not eat any meat except fish seems very reasonable!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am semi-vegetarian as I like to call it!. I don't eat any meat or eggs!. I do eat dairy milk, cheese, sour cream, etc!.!.!. and occasionally when I am at the beach on vacation, I will eat a little shrimp or crab, but no fish or any other seafood!. I just don't like the texture or flavor of meats and fish and that's why I don't choose to eat them!. Not everyone is vegetarian because they don't believe in eating animals!. The bible states that some animals were put on earth for nutritional purposes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
There are different types of vegetarians!.
Vegans- They eat ABSOLUTELY no animals OR things that come from them!. Including cheese and eggs!. Some even don't eat honey because it is a product of bees!.
General Vegetarians- Most of these guys eat everything from RED meat!. Like steaks and burgers!. So they DO eat turkey, chicken and fish!.
There are SOOO many others who consider certain animal products as meat and some can't drink milk!. It is VERY confusing!.
I'm with you though!. I say in general if i hear somebody say: "I'm a vegetarian!." I think they don't eat meat!.
Hope that helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because they know that animal protein is good for them!. One should be either a consumer of animal protein or a Vegan!. Fish, poultry and milk are animal!. The halfway house called vegetarianism is a tad amusing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Call me what ever you like but I am half vegan & do eat fish for its protein : I am 44 years old 5' 10" tall & 280lbs of muscle = 20% blub!. I bust my @ss as a NY eco-friendly Bayman, How else can I hold my bulk in check!?!?!? There is no other way to do it!. I've tried!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, I have always thought that there was something very fishy about vegetarians!. They say they won't eat the flesh of dead animals but that is exactly what fish is!. I am 2/3rds a vegetarian as I eat meat & two vegetables!.(ha)Www@FoodAQ@Com
Because a lot of vegetarians are vegetarians because they disagree with the way farm animals are treated!. And fish is not a farm animal and it is treated much better than other animals normally!. Therefore they eat fish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

to
sem-vegetarians- those who eat fish and
Half vegetarian- those who eat chicken!.
