I'm thinking about going vegetarian.?!
I've tried to go veggie a few times, i always ended giving up because I didn't have a big enough variety of food!.
Can someone tell me about the sort of things are available for vegetarians in common supermarkets!?
also, keep in mind that i leave it Australia!.

Answers:
Depending on what sort of vegetarian you want to be (whether you'll include eggs and dairy in your diet, basically), you can have anything except meat or things made from rendered animal flesh (like gelatin)!.
When I, a vegan, go grocery shopping, I buy any of the following:
- extra virgin olive oil
- whole grain flour
- whole grain bread
- Whole grain pasta
- Brown rice
- Sweet potatoes
- Red-skinned potatoes
- Soy milk
- Almond milk
- Oatmeal
- Fruit (any and all - I'm most fond of mangoes and cherries)
- Vegetables (any and all - especially dark leafy greens)
- Beans and legumes (any and all - chickpeas, lentils, pinto!.!.!.)
- Nuts and seeds (any and all - peanuts, sunflower seeds!.!.!.)
- potato chips
- dairyfree dark chocolate
- peanut butter
- waffles
- sweetener (I like raw cane sugar)
- pancake mix
- cereals
- jams and jellies
- spices and pre-made sauces/dressings/marinades
- tofu
- tempeh
- meatless mock-meat products ("hot dogs", "chicken" nuggets)
- pasta sauce
- canned tomatoes
- canned coconut milk
- mushrooms
Check ingredients lists to make sure animal ingredients haven't snuck in, fish paste can be in many things as well as gelatin or animal fats!.
A typical week of dinners for me would be, for instance (this was last week):
Monday: rice noodles with spicy peanut sauce, veggies, tofu
Tuesday: African sweet potato stew
Wednesday: veggie "meat"loaf made of black beans, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, grilled zucchini
Thursday: Pasta with mushroom sauce and mock chicken made of seitan (home-made out of wheat and a great meat replacement)
Friday: wholegrain spaghetti with sauce and meatballs made out of 100% veggie ingredients - homemade
Saturday: bean chili, home made cornbread, greens
Sunday: went out for Indian foodWww@FoodAQ@Com

Going vegetarian can be really hard considering that you've been used to meat your entire life!. And it's hard because after a while you get a craving for meat!. Some vegeatarian food includes veggie burgers!. A lot of people eat those, even those who aren't vegetarian, and say that theyre quite satisfying!. also, peanuts are a meat replacement!. So maybe peanut butter can also work for you!. To be honest, I really don't approve of going vegetarian!. It's amazing that you care enough about animals to take this big step, but I believe that God put animals on this earth for a reason!. It sounds kinda bad when I put it that way, but I think it's the truth!. Good luck, and I hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
for me becoming vegetarian was easily!.
i didn't do it for animals, i simply didn't like the taste
start off by cutting out beef one month
pork the other
chicken the other
and so on and so forth
i have fish occasionally, probably once a month because i am anemic!.
don't forget to take your supplements; iron and herbs formula
b12 vitamins are essential <---you only find that in meat
just take it one step at a time
most people can not cut out all meat products overnight
its a gradual and rewarding process!Www@FoodAQ@Com
