Ok, how about vegan cream cheese?!

Question: Ok, how about vegan cream cheese!?
I'm probably going to be asking a few questions today!. I'm the "food lady" at a wilderness boarding school, and I've got a new student with lots of food restrictions!.

Anyway, is there a good vegan substitute for cream cheese!?

Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
"Tofutti" has both a cream cheese and sour cream that are not only a 'good substitute' - I think that they are the best!

Even those that aren't vegetarian/vegan can't tell the difference!.

I have used the creamed cheese to make a cheese cake even - and no one knew!.

Edit:

Pre-made and NO animal products at all!. You can find it in the refrigerator section of your grocery store where they have the healthier food selections - of just ask!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

INGREDIENTS

2 cups sunflower seeds
1 cup pignoli nuts
1 inch / 2!.5 centimeter piece ginger, peeled
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 cup fresh basil
Bragg's liquid aminos to taste

METHOD
Combine all in a blender with enough water to cover!. Start blender, adding more water to produce a very thick creamy liquid!. Pour into a sprout bag and squeeze out liquid!. You are left with cheese!. The remaining liquid becomes a dressing with the addition of fresh minced herbs and a little more braggs amino!. To thicken the dressing blend in some tahini!.

NOTES
The yield varies, so double or triple the recipe to meet your needs!. Use this cheese as stuffing for celery, mushrooms, cucumber boats, etc!. If you have a small blender, cut recipe in half to accommodate its size!. Make this into a sweet cheese by eliminating last five ingredients and adding dates with cinnamon instead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tofutti brand is pretty good!. There's a cream cheese and a sour cream!. I heard somewhere that one version of one of those is not 100% animal free!. Like, for example, there's two versions of cream cheese, and one is vegan an one isn't!. Unfortunately I (a) don't know for sure that this is true, and (b) don't remember if they were talking about the cream cheese or the sour cream!. So, the upshot is to read the label before you buy!. But, yeah, it's pretty widely available!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tofutti!!
you can get this at places like trader joe's or whole foods, I'm not sure where you are located, if you have any there, but that's where i buy it!.
it's actually really good!.
and it tastes just like the real thing!.
and no animal products :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
