For you vegiterians and vegans!!?!

Question: For you vegiterians and vegans!!!?
i've heard a lot of people say that they are vegan/vegitarian because they dont support animal cruilty and stuff like that!. Or just that the thought of eating another animal is disgusting, BUT, if thats the case, why do you try so hard to make your food look and taste like real meat!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I am vegatarian because i dont support animal cruelt not because the thought is gross!. But i am not sure why everything has to be like fake meet that is a good question!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The foods you're thinking of don't actually look like meat - sausages, patties, rashers etc are just forms, usually made from meat, but they can be made from seitan, tofu etc!.

They’re not necessarily meat substitutes, but ways of processing and shaping food!. You never saw a round flat animal, after all, or a sausage shaped one, any more than you've seen a vegetarian substitute that looks like a chicken or a lamb!.They're just convenient shapes to form the centrepiece to a meal!.

Most vegetarians don't 'try hard' to make their food look and taste like meat, but some buy 'mock meats', yes!.

One reason these products are popular is probably that they make it easier for a new vegetarian or vegan to make the change from eating meat!. And they're fine for people who may have a moral objection to eating meat, but who enjoyed and miss it!.

But mostly it's just that they’re different tastes and textures, and who doesn’t crave that in their diet!?

Meat ‘substitutes’ aren’t the healthiest or cheapest food you can eat, but if you’re feeling lazy and uninspired they’re fine now and then!. And some of them do taste good!.

I went vegetarian in 1969 (I'm vegan now) and for many years there were no fake meats - just TVP chunks which were disgusting!. So I lived for many years without them, and could do so again!. But I like some of them, so I'll continue to eat them!.

For the life of me I can't see the problem, or the contradiction, in being vegetarian or vegan and eating something that's - well, not meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Interesting question!.

Personally I replaced all my meat dishes with lots of veggies including mushrooms, different kinds of tofu, tempeh, and a limited number of soy products, etc!.

I assume that you are asking about soy products i!.e!. mock duck, vegetarian ham, etc!. Why do I consume these products!? Because they're available to me and taste delicious, without involving any animal cruelty!.

They don't taste like real meat!. Not even close!. The texture is similar, but any meat-eater or vegetarian will say that they're no meat!.

Sometimes, these soy products try to imitate the looks of real meat!. However, these don't come so close either!. Rarely am I unable to tell soy products apart from real meat!.

I personally think of them as art!. Plus they're definitely healthier than real meat ( http://www!.vegtaste!.com/main/posting!.php!.!.!. ) as farmed animals are fed mystery food ( http://www!.vegtaste!.com/main/posting!.php!.!.!. ) and drugs!.

Many new vegetarians crave for what they are familiar with, and soy products satisfy just that!. Replacing meat with something tasty and familiar to their old dishes!. There is obviously a demand for it, and new products keep getting introduced to the market!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all vegans and vegetarians choose to eat imitation lookalike meat, but there is nothing wrong with them doing so, as, being fake and entirely meat-free, it is indeed suitable for a vegan or vegetarian diet!. The abundance of fake meat products available may be aimed at or at least cultivated by people making a transition from a meat-based diet to a vegan or vegetarian diet who are having trouble adjusting and find the familiarity of the fake meat foods helpful!. They can eat foods that are similar in appearance (I don't know if they taste similar as well!?) to meat-based foods, but can do so knowing that no animal has been butchered for the purpose! Hurray! Maybe that is why!. also, they might merely taste good, and provide a greater variety of options for those on a vegan or vegetarian path!.

But one shouldn't generalise and say that all vegans or vegetarians try hard to make their food resemble meat!. There are products available that do so, and if a vegan chooses to purchase those then that is their choice, and there is nothing wrong with it; I think that what the food looks like has no importance, but how it was made and who was harmed in the process does!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not all are in it for the same reasons!.

I adopted the vegetarian diet for health/fitness reasons, it forces me to stay away from the unhealthy fatty foods I used to have a weakness for, giving me better performance in the sports I compete/participate in!.

Don't miss the meat from my diet!. I was once an omnivore, but now the smell of meat sorta repulses me!. Not because I think it's gross, it's mainly just because it's something my body has gotten used to not eating, and well, I just don't have the appetite for it anymore!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I, for one, don't do this!. I don't like the taste of meat!. The seasonings, however, I love!. The ways of cooking!.!.!. yummy!. None of it has to do with the taste of meat itself!. As for the appearance, I'm not really married to it!. It's kind of fun to have a "main thing" plus sides, but I certainly don't need it!. I'm not exactly sure what exactly you have in mind, but not all substitutions are trying to look or taste like meat, but to replace it with something else!.

A meat-based analogy could be the chicken sandwich!. Awhile ago, you could only get hamburgers at fast food joints!. A chicken sandwich isn't trying to look or taste like beef!. It's just something else to eat on a bun!.

Besides that, ethical decisions don't really relate to the appearance or taste of food!. Some people do really like meat but decide that their own personal taste preferences aren't worth it!. Same goes for cost!. There are those who don't buy stuff that is made in China because they don't support outsourcing!. They might pay more, but their decision isn't based on money!.

I guess I don't really think that meat substitutes are really relevant or bear any reflection whatsoever on a vegetarian or vegan's sincerity!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't understand why so many non-veg people seem to have a problem with this!.
Some people still like the taste of meat so they choose to eat the fake stuff instead of eating animals!. I eat the fake chicken because I love the taste of chicken but I don't want to support the cruelty involved in getting their meat!. I don't make my food look like meat, I don't care what it looks like!. The companies that make the food make it look like meat!. I don't understand how this is even an issue with you people!. We are not being hypocritical by eating it in any way and no animals are being hurt for it, so what is the problem!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

i went veggie for the health and ethical reasions, but i also dont like the taste of meat!. i never have, even when i was little!.
i dont thing any of the soy products taste or look like meat, and the ones that try to, look like clown food cause there dyed all sorts of crazy colors!.
as for other people, it could be a substitution thing!. they still want to pretend there eating meat, but they really dont!. well never know will we!?!?
but i dont see or taste any resemblance to meat, but hey, ive always been told im different!Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, I don't try to make my food taste or look like meat!. I think that people that eat "soy meat" and all those meat imitations miss it so much that they will sooner or later start eating meat!. I'm a true vegan, and I'm even allergic to all kinds of animal products !.!.!. it may be all those toxins, the hormones they get injected into them, all those chemicals, I don't know, but they make me very sick and I won't touch them!. I don't miss them either and won't eat the soy meat !.!.!. precisely because it reminds me of meat and it's abhorrent to me, but then again I hate them for making me so ill!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

most people like the taste of animals but there love for animals takes over and they just do the best they can!.
because i love chicken and stuff but i hate the way they are just bred to eat, and so on, so i just eat the stuff that tastes like chicken and other meat!. i can eat "chicken" and so on without hurting animals!Www@FoodAQ@Com

For some veg*ns, abstaining from meat is an ethical or health-related decision!.
Just because some folks don't like the way an animal is treated or perhaps their bodies cannot handle meat doesn't mean that they don't like the idea of a hamburger!. As you know, there are loads of meat-free alternatives to burgers these days!.
Soy meats are also good sources of protein!. They are tasty and conveneint!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I believe that the "it's like meat but not!" food is for people who become vegetarian/vegan for health reasons (too high blood pressure, need to lower cholesterol, etc) but still want something that tastes like meat!.

Plus, seriously, they taste good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

People choose to eat 'fake meat' mostly for psychological reasons!. We live in a society that puts things in burger and hot dog buns!. I like them, but my roommate, who's been a vegan since birth, thinks they are gross!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why do *I* try so hard to make it look like meat!? *I* don't!. Manufacturers do!. What difference does it make though!.!.it's still not meat and most of it doesn't taste much like it either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been vegeterian my whole life because I have never liked the taste of meat!. Its nasty!. also mainly because I also don't support animal cruelty!. Your a DumbassWww@FoodAQ@Com

Sometimes I wonder about that myself!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.well to be fair the soy products those things are made out of not everyone eats that stuff so its not good to generalize because not everyone eats those thingsWww@FoodAQ@Com

the reason i am a vegetarian is because of the way animals are treated during the cycle of being killed for our enjoymentWww@FoodAQ@Com
