Why do vegetarians feel the cold so much?!

Question: Why do vegetarians feel the cold so much!?
I was told some years ago that a deficiency in a certain vitamin was the reason why so many vegetarian people find themselves feeling the cold more than they did as omnivores!.

Is this substantiated in scientific fact - and if so, which vitamin is the one that is lacking!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Don't worry, vegans and vegetarians often feel colder in the first few years after converting!. I think there's a few layers to your answer!. No, it's not likely from a vitamin deficiency, as long as you're eating right!. I think a fair amount of it is from the fact that many veges lose weight and are more affected by the cold!. Another answer which I don't think most veges get is that when you turn vegan/vegetarian, many people have what is a 'cold spell' which is your body essentially detoxing from all the animal products your body is getting rid of!. After a few years, once all that is out of your body, then most turn to the other side and create tons of heat and energy!.
So don't worry--it's normal and in the meantime you can take cayenne supplements!. They're just cayenne powder in a capsule!. It helps boost your blood flow and is great for your heart!. It definitely helps raise your body temp if you're looking to warm up!. Hope it helps :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's definitely one of the stranger things I've ever heard about vegetarians, and I've heard some weird ones in my day!.!.!.

I work for a vegetarian non-profit organization with seven employees!. Three are vegetarian, and four are vegan!. There are literal arguments about the office's temperature!. One of the vegans has been known to sit on the heater to counter the A/C, while one of the vegetarians uses two desktop oscillating fans year-round!.

I don't think it has as much to do with a person's diet as it does with their overall makeup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

IRON is a mineral!. NOT a vitamin!.

And most vegetarians get plenty of it from beans, nuts and cereals!. Vegetarians are no more likely to be iron deficient than meat eaters!.

To demonstrate, my uncle eats red meats each day- and he has anaemia!. His diet is rich in the mineral, but he is still deficient!.

According to research by the Vegetarian Society, meat eaters get 86% of their iron from plant based sources so those who think MEAT is the *only* source of dietary iron are wrong!.

Meat, red meats in particular, are high in saturated fat and hormones!. Plant sources of iron are generally lower in saturated fat, and don't contain any cholesterol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ok!.
i am vegetarian
i do not feel the cold any more than anyone else i know, infact i feel it less than most people i know!.
also most people would not consider me skinny, i am well built and could do with losing a little fat!.
anything you can get from meat you can get from veg, at some point along the food chain the vitamins in the meat would have come from a plant of some sort!.

if people know vegetarians who are skinny and always cold then the problem is that they dont eat propperly, not that they are vegetarian!. they probably dont have time or creativity to cook and rely on nasty vegetarian ready meals!. if you think the meat ones are bad, you really dont want to try the veggie ones!. home cooking is the way forward whatever you eat, but is especially important for vegetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's so untrue!.
Veggies and vegans on a balanced diet with all the required nutrients are no more prone to cold than meat eaters!.Tut!!!.

Iron is probably lacking, but vegans and veggies always are more conscious of the nutrients we need to be healthy!.

Some Meat eaters sadly on the other hand just think they get most nutrients from meat and don't bother with fruit and veg where they can get enough essential nutrients daily!.

It is a fact that a lot of meat eaters are actually malnourished,as they only eat meat filled diets and rarely fruit and veg!.

I know this as i just asked my dietitian friend, and she says her clinic ids full of overweight meat eaters who have malnutrition!. Go figure huh!?!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Strange, because it is the other way round for me!.

When I ate meat (for 37 years) I felt the cold all the time, even on warm days!. I was fatter then too, it did not make any difference!.

Since eating the vegan way, I rarely feel cold!. Well I still feel the cold on occasions, but I have improved a 1000 times since my meat eating days!.

also since turning to a vegan diet, I consume more vitamins, minerals, enzymes and nutrients in a day, than I ever did in a week in my meat eating days!.

!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Anyone who doesn't eat a balanced diet will be lacking in vitamins and minerals!. meat eaters are more likely to not eat a balanced diet!. All the unnecesary fat will probably be keeping them warmer!. If you want to learn more about vegetarians:

I only feel cold in the wintertime!.

My hands and feet tend to be a bit cold, especially in cold weather, but they were that way when I was an omnivore!.

And nobody would call me skinny, except for maybe attendees at a NAAFA conference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I went vegan I felt colder outdoors, but that was because I lost 30 pounds, not because of a deficiency!. Animal fat makes arteries constricted causing higher blood pressure and the feeling of warmth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nonsense!.

I'm vegetarian and I'm always hot!. I have a fan on while everybody else says they are cold!.

Somebody could have low iron and feel cold, but many people who eat meat have iron deficiency!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Erm, I don't know!?!!?!!?!

I'm a vegetarian and I actually tend to feel the cold LESS than most of my meat eating friends!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

iron deficiency i take iron pills/supplements though to keep healthyWww@FoodAQ@Com

i agree with what someone else said!. being fat protects you from feeling cold!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The only reason I can think of is they lack a layer of thick fat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well I'm a veggie and I don't feel the cold! Don't know where they got that idea fromWww@FoodAQ@Com

that might be true because im always freezingWww@FoodAQ@Com

it's probably an iron deficiency which can lead to cold extremities like hands and feet!. There are other sources of iron but iron delivered in the heam (blood i!.e meat) form are much more readily absorbed by the body!. I never used to eat meat but went back to it and I have to say, I feel a whole lot better for it!. If you choose to remove a food group from your diet you really need to replace it - often veggies don't!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

most veggies i know are skinny so they ain't got no blubber on 'em for insulation!. have a pork chop or two and get warm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

oh!.!. all this time i thought i wasnt cold!. thanks!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
