I don't know how to do it?!

Question: I don't know how to do it!?
Hey everyone =] Thanks for reading

You probably read my other question on how my parents aren't allowing me to be vegetarian!. Thanks for all your answers! I'm following all your advice!. But my mom still kind of disagrees after all that!.

Well I need help on this!. I'm buying my own food and hiding it at my friends house!. Or I go out to the mall or other places to eat!. But every night my mom makes dinner [with meat of course] and she's starting to get suspicious!. Everyday I make up an excuse like "I'm not hungry," or "My stomach hurts" and I think she knows I'm lying!.

I feel horrible and I can't hide it from her much longer!. OH and guess what she said!? I was talking to her about it again and she said "If you become vegetarian you have to give up your puppy" and I was shocked!. Can she really make me do that!? I dont know what to do! Please help me =[Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi Morning Glory,

Aww :( I know you're in a bad situation!. Sometimes parents just say things like that so they can make you change your mind!. I don't think she's going to take away your puppy!. She also can't force you to eat meat!. If she does, maybe stay at your friends house for a while or tell someone!. Show her that you really really want this! She's going to allow it some day :)

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your mom is being ridiculous!. She's acting like you asked to join a brothel, or something! I don't see why she'd have a problem if you make all your own meals!. Take responsibility, show them that this i something you're serious about!.

also, a word of advice!. Telling her you're not hungry every night may lead her to believe you have some sort of eating disorder, which would probably make the situation worse!. ;]Www@FoodAQ@Com

Buy your mom the book "Skinny B***h"!. After she reads it she might want to join you as well on your quest to become a vegetarian as it's a very real, no nonsense view on the whole subject on why people should turn to that lifestyle!. There are things in that book that will get you so grossed out that you will never view milk, eggs and meat in the same way again!Www@FoodAQ@Com

your mom should understand your wishes!. if you actually bought your puppy, she legally cant take it away!. y would she make you give your dog up!? its not like your going to EAT it, i also am a dog lover!. your mom should respect your beliefs, and she shouldnt make you give up your dog, if i were you, i would protest to protect my dog!!!! good luck!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Let your mother know how pathetic it is that she is making you continue eating meat when you are old enough to make your own decisions about what goes in your body!.Tell her you have to hide food at your friends and will continue doing so but for her to be happy its food and not drugs or condoms you're hiding!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

tell your mom that your nurse at school said that u r really unhealthy, and u need to change!. the first thing is that u have to give up meat, and to work out more!. u need to say that, so she thinks your not just makin it up to get out of eatin meat!. if she says she wants to talk to her!. just ask the nurse to do that, im sure she would do it if u told her the storyWww@FoodAQ@Com

I dont understand why your mom doesnt like that choice!. Veggis are more healthy, and its your choic what you eat!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Oh Sweetie that's totally unfair!! I had a cousin who went through this with my aunt, and it wasn't until she realised she was making her daughter bulimic she gave in!. Every time Sarah was made to eat meat she'd throw up!. Now I'm not telling you to do that, but can't you explain that everytime you eat meat you feel sick!? Have you got a sympathetic aunty/uncle school councillor that could help put your side!? You COULD try blackmail!.!.!.!.!.a recent study has shown (and this is coming from a meat eater) that develpoing brains can't concentrate for long periods of time because of some of the growth hormones that are in meat!. I don't know what else to tell you pet, but good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sounds like your parents are not really sold on the idea of you wanting to be a vegetarian!. Perhaps if you bring home some information from the library about how nutrients do not have to come from meat they might listen to your requests!. It is not fair that you have to hide to eat what you want!. If you ask your parents why they believe that you should not be a vegetarian maybe it could shed some light on their feelings!. After all, they are just looking out for you and probably hoping that you are just going through a phase!. You need to talk to them and let them know that you are serious and why!.
Be honest, hopefully they will agree with your choices!.
Good LuckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Tell her that if she gives up the puppy because you want to be vegetarian, then she is being a very irresponsible pet owner and teaching you to be irresponsible as well - a dog is not a computer game that can just be given away without any regard; it is a living creature with feelings!. It has probably grown accustomed to its home, and would be devastated to just be dumped elsewhere as some sort of sadistic punishment to you, just the same as any of us would be devastated to be ripped out of our homes and shipped off somewhere else!. Be mature and tell her that making these sorts of threats is not a healthy way of dealing with the situation!. Tell her that you're willing to discuss your decision to be a vegetarian with a medical professional (together with her) and tell her you really want to hear her objections to your being vegetarian!. Make her feel that you respect her opinion, as she is your mother, and that she is being heard, but at the same time, she might be mistaken about vegetarianism and it's important for her to hear this from a doctor!.

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's wrong to lie to your parents!.

It's really wrong for your mom to threaten you like that!.

I'm not sure I see a way around it, if they haven't listened to you!. (Can you bring them along with you to a doctor or nutritionist to explain that you aren't going to wither up and die!?) Be SURE that you've educated yourself thoroughly so you can answer their questions and address their concerns!.

Avoid using statistics/information that are from pro-veggie sources!. If you look here, the American Heart Association has some information about a vegetarian diet:
http://www!.americanheart!.org/presenter!.j!.!.!.

There's no way that your parents will think it's "biased!."

Worst case scenario, they don't let you go vegetarian!. The good news is that you're only under their jurisdiction when you're at home!. You could resolve to follow a strict vegetarian diet when you're out of the house, and eat as little meat as you possibly can while you're at home!. This isn't ideal, but you can't force your parents to accept your lifestyle choice!. You also can't force them to be honest about what they put in your food!.

I'd try again!. Find out exactly why they object to you following a vegetarian diet!. Don't lose your temper or argue!. Just hear them out!.

Mom's reasons for objecting to your vegetarian diet will be the key to helping her understand!. If it's a matter of nutrition, you go to a dietitian together, or the doctor!. If there's a cultural reason why she wants you to eat meat (what's your background) you can look for foods that are equally traditional but also vegetarian!.

Good luck to you!.

Remember, keep cool!. She's not trying to be a jerk, she's probably either worried about your health or hurt that you're rejecting the way she brought you up!.

also, offer to cook!. Moms love this!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
