Answers:
I believe (and I may be mistaken) that some of the Eastern faiths that dictate vegetarianism have additional restrictions!. I've never heard of nuts and root vegetables included in those, although I've heard of restictions against onions, garlic and other "hot" foods (that's a Buddhist thing, I think!.)

Anyway, none of those restrictions has anything to do with vegetarianism that is practised in the West for non-religious reasons!. The only thing that defines vegetarianism practised here is that animals were not killed for your food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Many people have different definitions of "pure vegetarian!." For instance in America it means someone who basically eats a vegan diet but doesn't necessarily follow the lifestyle!.

In India, it's often a term used for people who are Lacto-vegetarian!. Some of these people don't eat onions, garlic, or spicy foods because of their religious backgrounds!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

From what I've heard, when a person doesn't eat underground veggies it's because when you take an underground vegetable, you take and kill the whole plant!. When you take an above ground food you only take something off of the plant/stalk/tree, not the whole plant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

!?!?take away my potatoes, onions, carrots and someone might get hurt!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
