I want to be a vegitarian but my mum won't let me?!

Question: I want to be a vegitarian but my mum won't let me!?
She has lots of arguments against me being a vegitarian like; the world couldn't cope with everyone being vegitarians, the animals are breed to be slaughtered, you need some of the nutrients and protiens from meat!. At first she said she wouldn't cook the meals for me then she said that she would do three vegitarian meals a night one fish meal and the rest meat!. I said that i could cook for myself when they have meat but she stills says no!. She is really against it, my friend suggested that i threw away meat in my sandwiches, but i dont like bread on its own like that and i don't want to waste anything because its just not fair on my mum who buys it!. I told my mum once that i would just leave the meat that she gave me and she said i wouldnt because she would make me eat it!.I even told her that it would mean i wouldnt eat many sweets because alot of them have gelatine in (animal fat - i think)!. I really want to convince her to let be a vegitarian!. Please help!! I hate eating animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Her knowledge comes from propaganda of the Meat Industry!. What she sez is not all true & some are actual lies!.
If more people were vegetarians, the world would not only cope, it would help economically, (except for the meat industry)
It takes more land to feed cattle, than the cattle feeds people!. We could grow more food with that land and feed more people than cows!.
A daily intake of protein of 5% is all your body can handle!. Any more and you just have bigger solid waste!.
Animals being bred for slaughter is an evil/mean excuse!.
Claiming superiority over animals does not justify acting without thinking!.
The human body does Not require animal products!.

I think its a personal choice if you want to eat meat or not!.

if you want to convince her dont say you wont eat as many sweets, talk to her about the conditions some animals live in even though they are breed for slaughter!.

you could always do it her way and only eat animals that are free range, so thay live in large fields and arent pumped will growing agents !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sounds like your mom is having some problems with this! Sit her down and explain why you want to be a vegetarian!. If you have it well thought-out, then maybe she'll understand!.

She shouldn't have to cook extra meals for you, though it's nice if she offers!. Make sure you're willing to cook for yourself!.

Finally, do research on balanced vegetarian diets!. Learn about beans and tofu, and help shop for them, so your parents know what to get you!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you think killing animals is evil , god wouldnt put proteins in it that our bodies need !.!. thats how the world going , animals eat each other , and they eat veges , and we eat them !.!. its an organized circle to keep everythng balanced !.!. your body wont be as much healthy if u stop all these broteins , listen to ur mom , she knows bestWww@FoodAQ@Com

well she is right about the nutrients part!. but you should be able to decide what you want to eat!. just ask her to buy you the meatless burgers!. maybe you should sit down with her and tell her how you really feel about meat!. and how your just not comfortable eating it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, for some reason your mom seems against it!. The only thing you can do is to keep fighting and rebbeling in to she takes notice!. Maybe try a conselor that you both go to to talk about your feelings!. Tell the school conselor and see what he says!.

good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Throwing away the meat is such a stupid idea!. The animal is already killed, that's just like you eating it!. Just listen to your mom until your old enough to make your own decisions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i am the same way whenever i eat meat i feel so guilty but when i dont eat it my parents get really mad and accuse me of having an eating disorder!. i hate it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What! you have the right to be a vegetarian! you cant be force-fed with meat!! you have the right to choose wether you want to not eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have a right to not kill animals!. Tell her that you dont want to be a killer and the world cant cope with everyone being little HitlersWww@FoodAQ@Com

Just choose to eat the right things!. You could find protein from nuts and beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Keep in mind, an animal would have no trouble eating you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Refuse to eat it!. It's your life, not hers!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

stand up to her and tell her all the good reasons!Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sure is a good thing you are doing!. Why eat animals when we have lots of vegetables available!.

I myself don't like what i am going to advice you but for the sake of animals you can just act as if you want to throw when you eat meat (vomit) and run to bathroom, close the door, open the taps and come out wiping your mouth and then say "Please mom, i really can't eat any more meat"!.

Probably after that she won't force you to eat meat!.

Good luck for good cause!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your not eating animals that are designed to be pets for our pleasure or bidding!. Hunting and eating wild animals is as old as human kind!. I cant make a good case for eating meat any more than you can make a good case for not eating!. I happen to enjoy beef and chicken and I believe that the protein from eating such, is a life sustaining diet!. Why don't you make vegetarian and meat part of your diet for the sake of your body and health!. You don't have to eat a cow every week, but for goodness sakes you can enjoy all foods in moderation, and that will make you a well rounded person with a healthy glow!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well to be completely honest you do need meat in your diet!. There are certain nutrients and amino acids that you can only get from meat; not by-products, vegetables, or tofu!. They can't even come close to providing you with those nutrients and vitamins!.

I know where you're coming from though!.!.!. I was vegetarian for a while too, but now I only eat fish and chicken, NO BEEF!. I don't like beef and it's just not that healthy for you!.

Try eating even just a little bit of meat (especially if it's organic!.!.!. it's the healthiest kind and the animals aren't tortured)!.

Oh and for your sandwiches there is veggie-meat that you can buy at a grocery store instead of regular meat!. Maybe you and your mom can reach a compromise on that one, but if not you can always make a sandwich without meat; I've done that before!. I would do mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, pickles, onions, etc!. it was actually really good too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Listen to your mum!. It is for your own good esp when you are growing its impt for you to get the sufficient nutrients needed!. If not, you will not only not grow taller, you will also have menstruation disorder which will lead to infertility!. also, you need some animal fats to protect you from the cold and a certain mass of fats is needed to ensure you have your monthly period!. Eating only vegetables will not get you anywhere!. Your mum is probably afraid that you will be anorexic as many ppl turn to vegetarians for fear of getting fat!. Your mum also maybe hopes that you will grow well and afraid that you will suffer from malnutrition should you munch only on vegetables and fruits!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

By your very nature and physiology you are an omnivore and a predator
Meat has nutrients and components that can be found in no other substance and is necessary for your health

If you don't like what your mother serves you then get a job and buy your own food and medical insurance

Her job is to cloth feed and shelter you, not pander to the newest fad on what will be a long list of fadsWww@FoodAQ@Com

I would suggest sitting down with your parents(after getting all the info on nutrition/health), and having a mature talk with them!. Open up with them and allow them to see your point of view(don't just discuss animal cruelty, but also nutrition)!. Try to use "I" statements(they sound less confrontational), for example, "I feel as if I would like to become vegetarian"!. Let them know that you are willing to eat a healthy vegetarian diet!. It may be helpful to get some recipe books(there are quite a few for teenagers)!. You could also see a nutritionist to help you make a meal plan and ease your parents fears!.

If you do your research on vegetarianism, you will be able to shoot down all of your mothers arguments(since non of them are based in fact, they are simply opinion)!. Even the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada, state that properly planned vegetarian diets are complete healthy for ALL ages(they are the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals)!.

There is nothing in meat that cannot be found in a vegetarian source!. Meat is not some magical food that contain special nutrients unique to itself!. As far as the world not being able to cope with everyone being vegetarian, that is just ridiculous!. It has been stated that world hunger could end if everyone went vegetarian, since around 70% of food grown is fed to animals being slaughtered!. If this food was fed to directly to people instead, there would be more food to go around!. Her third argument of animals being bred to be slaughtered, well what does that have to do with anything!?

I also think you need to understand that sometimes parents are caught off guard with some of the things their children decide to do!. She may need some time to adjust to the change and really take in all the info!. Arguing with her or causing confrontations is simply going to cause a power struggle, which she is most likely going to want to win!.

Get your information together, read plenty of books and websites!. Try and think of all the "arguments" she is going to make and research counter arguments!. You do not want to start a debate or argument, just be able to give her the correct information!.

You said you were willing to cook for yourself, so get a good teen cook book from the book store or library and start shopping with mom/dad!. Don't expect mom to cook everything for you(its not fair for her to have more work at dinner time, while you do nothing)!. There are also plenty of easy recipes on the web!.
