How many vegans & veggies would say that they are also very concerned with environmental issues?!
I just wanted to see if there is a trend that goes with caring about animals and caring for the environment!.
I am vegan and am becoming increasingly interested in pollution and global warming!.
So who of you are also genuinely concerned with the enviroment!?
And while you're at it can you tell if Jesus was a veggie!. Fabulous said he was earlier and I had not heard that before!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am seriously concerned about the environment and the way that Earth of going!. It depresses me so much that I try not to think about it- I mean in 15 years or something like that London is meant to be underwater! OMG! If you care about animals then you have got to care about the environment because the animals depend on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes I love and care about the Earth just as I do all forms of life!. After all, how far would we have come if the Earth didn't provide us with all the beautiful things it does!? The Earth gives us life!. Period!. We need to respect it, as well as everything else that lives!.
While I am interested on the subject global warming I also believe that everything happens for a reason!. Maybe this will be a wake up call alot of us that need it!. The Earth is giving back to all the destruction man has put upon it!. I trust in the Infinitite that everything is happening for a reason and there is no need to worry about a thing!. I will continue to do my part and thats all that counts, I can't control everyone elses actions!. I believe that they will eventually get whats coming to them!.
And yes, I believe that Jesus was vegetarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You bet I care about the environment too! I think that the two go hand in hand!. If you're aware enough to be a vegan I truly believe you are likely to be aware enough to see what's going on and realize that we all really need to start looking out for Mother Nature!. As for Jesus, I do not know, but it wouldn't surprise me :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, I am very concerned!
Pollution directly affects us as it can poison the water and food we ingest!. Destructive and irresponsible farming methods destroy the soils natural ecosystem and causes erosion which can take hundreds of years to replenish!. I think we are at a crucial point where we have to make MAJOR changes so that our future isn't doomed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I care about the environment, but more of my efforts are conentrated on local stuff, where you can see the difference you make!.
Jesus was not a vegetarian!. If you believe he existed at all, than it's not hard to find reference in the scriptures to him being pescatarian!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just responding about the Jesus part here!.!.!. Well, in today's society animals are killed in horrible fashions and live horrible lives!. Back then, people killed when they needed food!. Fish was a good food back then to keep all the nutrients in your body at the levels they should be, etc!.

Are you truly interested, or jumping onto bandwagons!?!?!?
Usually, folks become vegetarian because of the toxicity of our meat products right now!.!.!.it just makes healthful sense not to ingest such garbage, especially since third-world countries, that are starving, won't even take our meats free!.!.!.makes ya think!!! It's also why our fresh/raw sources of fruits & veggies are being tainted with viral marketing ploys!.!.!.fear turns alot of heads the quickest, and Monsanto would love for people to go back to using canned/pre-cooked foods because most of the grocer shelves of these products are genetically manufactured by them!.!.!.so not real food, so lacking in assumable nutrition, full of chemical add ins!!!
Vegans are the extemists!.!.!.using no animal products/by-products whatsoever!. also healthful, considering the nature of the sources, however!.!.!.there are many ethical farmers who need to retain that business of domestic meat & dairy sources, plus, they taste much better than alot of plant-based foods!. I like to support ethical business, no matter what, and I have no intention of giving up butter or the awesome awray of cheeses, for a bunch of supplement pills!. Variety is truly the spice of life!!! All things in moderation being key!.
As far as the environment, always cared even with a steak on my plate!.!.!.what you eat shows your consumerism and personal free-will choice!.!.!.how you deal with the packaging and keeping leftovers, how you prepare them, clean them & your utensils, as well as your choice of tools!.!.!.now that reflects caring for the environment!.
As far as Jesus!.!.!.Lord, give this guy a break!!! Look at the times that lifetime involved, the traveling he did world-wide, the many cultures he experienced!.!.!.although red meats were considered for the elite, of which he was one, when young, he was a shepherd and a fisherman!.!.!.what do you think he & his family ate!?!?!? And why would anyone of NOW care what someone ate 2000 yrs!. ago!.!.!.Please, some Come On! Sense!.!.!.let this soul rest already!.!.!.this is "bandwagon" fuel, not knowledge power!.
Good Journey!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

i think there is a trend for veg*ns to also care about the environment!. most people who care deeply about one thing are inclined to care deeply about others as well!. as far as the Jesus subject, here is a post I left for someone else's question earlier today:
Jesus taught about love for others, compassion, and mercy!. Personally, I don't think Jesus ate meat!. The only support for his eating meat comes from assumptions based on the fact that He was Jewish!.!.!.but being Jewish doesn't demand the consumption of meat, it only restricts what meats can be consumed!. He could have easily chosen not to eat those things!. No verse in the Bible specifically states that He ate meat!. Think about what you know about Jesus, think about what He taught His followers!.!.!.!.do you really think that killing another living being for His own benefit would have been in line with Jesus's teachings!? I simply cannot fathom that someone who would give their life to save all of us would find it right to kill other animals when it isn't necessary to live!. Even if the Bible tells us that we CAN eat meat, it doesn't say that we HAVE to!. I think it's very likely that Jesus would have chosen not to consume the flesh of another living, feeling being that was a loving creation of His Father!. I try my best to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and I think that being a vegetarian is a great way to exhibit the kindness and compassion that He taught of!.
Besides!.!.!.!.!.the Bible says "Thou shalt not kill"!.!.!.!.!.!.!.not "Thou shalt not kill other humans!." God only gave humans the permission to eat meat after the flood because there was no vegetation!. Even then He said that it would have to be free of blood and that eating animals would cause them to fear us and attack us!. Think about it!.!.!.!.before the flood everyone MUST have been vegetarian!.!.!.!.if people and animals were all eating each other, how would they have been able to stay on an ark together without mass slaughter!? Doesn't make sense, does it!? If you read Genesis 9, you will see all of this play out!.
also, think about the Lord's Prayer!.!.!.part of it is:
"Thy kingdome come, Thy will be done
on Earth as it is in Heaven!."
There is no killing in Heaven, as the lion will lay with the lamb!. If we are supposed to be doing God's will as it is in Heaven, we should do no killing of living beings either!. Just a thought!. =)
in response to the "Jesus gave people fish" argument!.!.!.!.!.he didn't have to KILL the fish to give them to people, they were a result of a miracle of duplication!. they were sitting next to a large lake at the time!.!.!.!.if Jesus had wanted them to kill for their food wouldn't he have just instructed the to go fish from the lake!?! it seems like that would have made a lot more sense if he was encouraging people to eat meat!.
there are also many scholars who believe that the duplication miracle was a parable and not an actual occurance!. also, "fishweed" was a vegetable that was eaten often in this time period and the word for "fishweed" and the word for "fish" were often confused in ancient Jewish texts!.!.!.!.it very likely could have been a veggie he was duplicating!.
when all else fails, i just show people this:
"Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it!. They will be yours for food!. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food!." And it was so!." Genesis 1:29
also keep in mind that the Bible has been translated many, many times over the course of almost 2000 years!. there are going to be inconsistancies because HUMANS were the ones translating it!. there is only one verse in the entire Bible (from what I have been able to find) that references Jesus eating fish, and thousands of pages of text that would support the argument that he didn't!. i think we're meant to draw our own conclusions about this one!.
whatever you believe, just make sure you know why you believe it!. don't believe that Jesus ate meat just because your overweight pastor told you so!.!.!.!.!.the Bible requires contemplation!.
i recommend asking some Seventh-Day Adventists about this!.!.!.!.they are a Christian church that preaches the values of vegetarianism to their followers!.
i also STRONGLY recommend you visit www!.jesusveg!.org
it is run by PETA, who i don't necessarily agree with, but if nothing else it will really get you thinking! good luck on your spiritual journey!.

BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL =DWww@FoodAQ@Com
I am a vegetarian, in the process of going vegan, and am extremely concerned about the enviorment!. According to Dr!. David Brubaker, PhD, at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for a Livable Future, “The way that we breed animals for food is a threat to the planet!. It pollutes our environment while consuming huge amounts of water, grain, petroleum, pesticides and drugs!. The results are disastrous!.”
A 2006 United Nations report summarized the devastation caused by the meat industry by calling it "one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global!." also the 2006 United Nations report found that the meat industry produces more greenhouse gases than all the SUVs, Hummers, cars, trucks, planes, and ships in the world COMBINED!.
Raising animals for their flesh, eggs, and milk is one of the world’s leading emitters of carbon dioxide (CO2)!. But global warming is caused by more than just CO2!. Animal agriculture is the leading source of methane and nitrous oxide emissions, which—combined with carbon dioxide—causes the vast majority of global warming!.
METHANE: The billions of farmed animals crammed into factory farms produce enormous amounts of methane, both during digestion and from the acres of cesspools filled with feces that they excrete!. Methane is more than 20 times as powerful as carbon dioxide at trapping heat in our atmosphere!. Statistics from the Environmental Protection Agency show that animal agriculture is the number one source of methane emissions in the U!.S!.
NITROUS OXIDE: Nitrous oxide is about 300 times more potent as a global warming gas than carbon dioxide!. According to the U!.N!., the meat, egg, and dairy industries account for a staggering 65 percent of worldwide nitrous oxide emissions!.
Not only is pollution and global warming a huge issue when raising animals for food, but we are also wasting tons of resources!.
WASTING LAND:
Vast tracts of land are needed to grow crops to feed the billions of animals we raise for food each year!. According to scientists at the Smithsonian Institute, the equivalent of seven football fields of land is bulldozed every minute, much of it to create more room for farmed animals!. Of all the agricultural land in the U!.S!., nearly 80 percent is used in some way to raise animals—that's roughly half of the total land mass of the U!.S!.10 More than 260 million acres of U!.S!. forest have been cleared to create cropland to grow grain to feed farmed animals!.
WASTING WATER:
Between watering the crops that farmed animals eat, providing drinking water for billions of animals each year, and cleaning away the filth in factory farms, transport trucks, and slaughterhouses, the farmed animal industry places a serious strain on our water supply!. Nearly half of all the water used in the United States goes to raising animals for food!.
It takes 5,000 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat, while growing 1 pound of wheat only requires 25 gallons!. A totally vegetarian diet requires only 300 gallons of water per day, while a meat-eating diet requires more than 4,000 gallons of water per day!. You save more water by not eating a pound of beef than you do by not showering for an entire year!.
Sorry for the overload of information!.!.haha :) Hope I helped!
