That's great you're interested in going vegetarian!
Chickens:
At the slaughterhouse, their legs are snapped into shackles, their throats are cut, and they are immersed in scalding hot water to remove their feathers!. Because they have no federal legal protection, most are still conscious when their throats are cut open, and many are literally scalded to death in the feather-removal tanks after missing the throat cutter!.
Cows:
After they are unloaded from trucks, cows are forced through a chute and shot in the head with a bolt gun meant to stun them!. But the lines move so quickly and workers are often poorly trained!. So this technique often doesn't work!. Some cows are still fully conscious when their throats are cut and their limbs are hacked off!.
Pigs:
To get the terrified pigs onto the transport trucks bound for the slaughterhouse, workers may beat them on their sensitive noses and backs or stick electric prods in their rectums!. A typical slaughterhouse kills up to 1,100 pigs every hour!. The large number of animals killed makes it impossible for them to be given humane, painless deaths!. Because of improper stunning, many pigs are alive when they reach the scalding-water bath!.
There are plenty of good vegetarian sources of protein!. They include almonds, black beans, cashews, fake meat, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans, lentils, peanut butter, pinto beans, soybeans, soymilk, sunflower seeds, tofu!.
Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

That is the TRUTH there slaughtered and have cruel lives and are unhappy never touching grass in most times and abused you need to open up your eyes and just go to youtube or peta!.com and watch those things because then you would not wanna touch a animal carcass (cause thats what you basically eat) againWww@FoodAQ@Com

so now everyone here is using Pam Anderson as a role model!?!?
I suppose you same people support abortion, but god forbid you eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For chickens, they cut their beaks off and like Pam Anderson said, it's not like cutting of your finger nails, but cutting the tips of your fingers off!. They have to peel the skin off and cut its body parts off!. And they do muuuch more than just that!.
Even if they kill them less violently than they show in the Peta videos, they are still killing animals and hurting them!. No matter how you cut it, how you kill it, what you call it, it's still animal flesh!.
Think about what these animals go through just for someone's taste buds!. :( It breaks my heart!.
I don't want to say much more!. lol I dont want you having nightmaresWww@FoodAQ@Com

They keep the animals in over crowed factory farms where their horns are cut off, they are branded, they are castrated, and their beaks are cut, all without any painkillers!. Often, when they become injured or ill they are left to rot or even beaten!. The only law that protects animals raised for food the the Humane Slaughter Act!. It says that the animals must be unconscious when their throat is cut, however the stunning often fails to work and the law is rarely enforced!. Birds and fish are left out of this law!.
Once they reach market weight, or they stop producing a great amount of milk or eggs they are driven hundreds of miles to the slaughter house!. (cows stop producing milk at four to six years old, when normally they would live to up to twenty years)!. The trucks are over crowed and continue to drive through all weather extremes and give the hungry, tired, animals no food or water!. Once they are at slaughter house!. Chickens are hung upside down and travel through electric water that is meant to knock them out!. Then, a machine cuts their throats and they continue down the line where they are dumped in to scolding hot water!.
Pigs and cows are hung upside down and have their throats slit after being stunned (although this is not always successful)!. Often, they are not given enough time to bleed resulting in the cows being skinned alive or the pigs being scolded alive!.
I am a vegetarian because the animals raised for food are treated very poorly!. I don't believe animals should have to go through that just to end up on someone's plate!. If you do not eat meat, you do not support the abuse!. If you crave meat, veggie burgers work for me!. You just have to stay motivated!. Veggie burgers are also very high in protein!. Lentil soup, whole grain bread, peanut butter, and tofu are all very good food for a vegetarian to eat!.

I quit eating meat for over a 1 1/2 due to a PETA video I saw!. I eventually went back to meat after the images in my head went away!. I also went back to meat b/c I was tired of being hungry all the time!. I still rarely eat red meat-mainly chicken, white meat pork, and turkey!. There are some farmers that really care for the animals and slaughter them in a more humane way!. But overall, most animals are pumped w/hormones to get them bigger, plumper, and to grow faster!. They are then slaughtered!. Some chickens are actually steamed while still alive!. OK, I have to stop!. I'm getting disgusted all over again!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I'm not a die hard vegetarian or vegan!. I want to also become a vegetarian eventually!. Primarily for health reasons though!.
I study Hospitality and Catering at college and one of my lecturer's worked on a slaughterhouse for about 10 years!. He shows us videos and tells us the way they kill these animals, which is what the mass majority of people buy from the supermarkets and grocery stores!.
The biggest thing that bothered me was their treatment of pork! When the mother pig is heavily pregnant, they kill her and take her piglets out!. They then inject the piglets with antibiotics because they don't have their mother's nutritional needs to fight off infections, then we ingest these growth hormone antibiotics into OUR system!. Mass produced meat is AWFULLY bad for a person!.
Factory farm chickens are kept in awful conditions as well!. Their beaks get chopped off to stop them from pecking and they are left to rot in their own filth, literally!. They also have virtually no space or freedom!.
As for protein in food besides meat, there are tons of meat alternatives foods packed with soya protein!. Vege-mince/burgers/sausages e!.t!.c also lentils and nuts are a good source of protein!.
I hope this helps and you pick the right choice :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most animals like pigs and cows and sheep are stunned so they are dead before they hit the floor!. They suffer very minimal pain and it lasts for 1 second max because it kills them that quick!. Some other animals are shot which is a instant kill so no pain in that method either!. Chickens are usally electricuted they hang them up side down attached to a line thing which conducts electricity and then they turn the electric on!. They are killed immeditally but it looks like they arent becasue there muscels go in to spasm and so it looks like they are struggling but they arent they are dead!. And they only "struggle" for a couple of seconds so its pritty instant!.
And if you decide you arent goint to eat meat you will need to have a meat subisitute like quorn (which tastes like cardboard) quorn comes in the form of sasauges and mince and stuff like that or you could eat pulses like lentils and stuff becasue they are also high in proetin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
