So you only do things that are natural!? I guess you found that computer you're typing on growing on a vine!?

Humans are not a part of the food chain!. We opted out of that when we started keeping animals in intensive confinement and feeding them crap (literally!.) There is nothing natural about the way meat is produced!. And if we were "meant" to eat it, we wouldn't get cardiovascular disease from the saturated fat and cholesterol (lions don't require quadruple bypass after a life of meat eating!.) Humans have the ability to make decisions based on a code of ethics, therefore we have the responsibility to make decisions based on a code of ethics!. Mine doesn't allow for confinement, torture and slaughter so I don't participate in it (and don't kid yourself, just because you're not doing it yourself, if you're paying for it to be done in your name, you're participating!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

there are many reasons

Cruelty to animals is one

The fact that meat is bad for you

It is not natural to eat meat, meat contains bacteria which is absorbed by human intestines but not in other carnivores like lions and dogs!.

The environment suffers from eating higher on the food chain!.

It saves over 100 animals a year if you are a vegitarianWww@FoodAQ@Com

I became a vegetarian for mostly environmental reasons!. The average meat-eater uses about 3 acres of land to support their diet; a vegetarian eating eggs and dairy uses about half an acre; and a vegan uses only 1/6 of an acre!.
Such a small act (not eating meat) really can make a difference!. We are running out of room on this planet, and any small bit of conservation helps!.
also, the meat industry is second only to the autmobile industry in "terms of environmental destruction" - wasting resources and pollution!.

Yes, i've read these facts in more than one place!. Here are two sites where I got that particular information!. !. !.

The meat industry is so disgusting, wasteful!.!.!. it makes me cringe!. I no longer want to support something so harmful - to myself, and to the planet!.
And it's natural, you say!? Think about our closest relations, genetically speaking!. Apes, monkeys, primates - whatever!. But how much meat do they eat!.!.!.!?
[answer: very little]Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's a good question, one that I hear a lot!.

I do think that adopting a vegetarian diet helps to reduce animal suffering!. This is because the number of animals that are bred and slaughtered depends directly on the consumer demand for meat!. Whenever we choose not to buy meat in a restaurant or store, we help to reduce this consumer demand for meat!. And lowering the demand means that fewer animals will be bred and forced to suffer in the future!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well, first, if everyone decides to become a veggie, than hardly any meat will be produced!. Second, eating meat is natural if we have to cook it!. Third, I don't think killing animals is acceptable and I don't support that!.

Let's take voting as an analogy!. If you don't vote in an election, it's not going to effect how many people vote!. We are vegetarian for the same reason you vote:
We take pride in it and we support it (as you would support a president in an election)!.

So there you go!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

everyone has their own reasons, mine was

Maybe I'm simple!.!.!.!. I became a vegetarian because I think meat tastes nasty!. I like wasabe and soy sauce on watermelon!. Good stuff! ^_^
Yes indeed!. We don't eat what tastes gross do we!? :]

2nd reason is that my body can't handle meat!.!. especially because the amount of protein!.!. I get sick, have to be starved for a week in a hospital, it's all good fun but the bills get a little on the heavy side!.

There are a lot of people that can't imagine life without meat, and that's how they are, but I've learned that I can't eat it!.!. and then came to the conclusion that I don't want to, and that's how I am!. And it reeaaalllly doesn't bother me what people think!. :]Www@FoodAQ@Com

i feel the same way!. its the circle of life!. Its not going to help anything!. Just kinda like trapping!. vegans the PETA nuts dont like leg hold traps and conibear traps and snares!. My thing is your not going to stop it so stop bitching about itWww@FoodAQ@Com

different reason like i became vegatarien for animal rights and the deseases meat has but mostly for the animal rigts and cruelity and my passion over animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i dont agree with that, but besides that atleast i will have the personally satisfaction im not hurting an animal when i eat,Www@FoodAQ@Com

I do it to help the enviroment!. Look up how much the meat and dairy industry hurt the enviroment!. all that carbon! yechhh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it's so natural why does meat cause heart disease!? And I believe that vegetarians save 100 lives a year, so in your face SUCKAWww@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with you!. I know people that dont eat meat they have bad bones really dark grey around there eyes and they dont look healthy at all!. Give me a big *** rib eye steak!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Every person who doesn't eat eat saves I think it's 127 animals a year!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The government agrees, it makes sense to eat organic foods to avoid certain chemicals!. The Office of Children's Health Protection at the Environmental Protection Agency declares that "children are at greater risk of pesticide exposure than most adults," and goes on to warn that "pesticides may cause a range of harmful health effects," including cancer and injury to the nervous system, lungs and immune system!.

"Organic farming became one of the fastest growing segments of U!.S!. agriculture during the 1990's, and producers, exporters, and retailers are still struggling to meet consumer demand for a wide range of organic products," the USDA said in the April issue of its "Agricultural Outlook" magazine!.

VEGETARIAN DIET MAY REDUCE HEART DISEASE AND CANCER

Vegetarians may have a lower risk of heart disease and bowel cancer than meat and fish eaters because of an acid found in fruit and vegetables, Scottish scientists said!.

Like people taking low-dose aspirin to prevent heart attacks, vegetarians have lots of salicylic acid, aspirin's main anti-inflammatory component, in their blood!.

Dr!. John Paterson, a chemical pathologist at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in Scotland believes salicylic acid could protect vegetarians from heart disease and cancer just as it protects people taking aspirin!.

"Studies have shown that if you eat fruits and vegetables you have a lower risk of heart disease, strokes, and cancer!. Part of the reason to explain that lower risk could be salicylic acid," Paterson said in a telephone interview!.

NEW STUDY FINDS ORGANIC IS HEALTHIER

We've all suspected it!. Now, a growing body of scientificevidence is indicating that organic food is healthier thanconventional produce!. Researchers from the University ofCopenhagen recently reported that organically grown producehas higher levels of nutrients when compared withconventional produce!.

Specifically, the organic crops had a higher concentrationof vitamins and far more secondary metabolites, which arenaturally occurring compounds that help immunize plants fromexternal attack!. Some of these metabolites are thought tolower the risk of cancer and heart disease in humans!.

At the EcoMall, while we don't believe you have to be a vegetarian to be an environmentalist, we do believe the two are related - - both encompass the ideals of efficiency and preserving our natural resources!. Apart from the crucial considerations of health and natural goodness, and respect for animal life, meat eating is both inefficient and wasteful!. Many pounds of cereal must be fed to livestock to produce one pound of meat on the table; the "wasted" food is used to supply the animal with energy!. As protein converters, livestock are inefficient!. An acre of cereal will produce five times more protein than an acre devoted to raising animals for human consumption!. The figures for legumes - ten times more - and leafy vegetables - fifteen times - are even more startling!. Some individual vegetables are yet more efficient!. According to Gary Null, "The ideal of eating simply so that everyone may eat, often leads people to an animal-free diet!. The logic!? Land is capable of supplying food for nearly fourteen times as many people when it is used to grow food for people rather than crops to feed livestock!. Cows, for instance, consume approximately sixteen pounds of grain to yield just one pound of flesh! In contrast, it has been estimated that our current yield of plant foods could nourish more than double the world's population, perhaps even turning the world hunger problem around, if meat-consuming societies would curtail their meat demand and free grazing land for the more efficient purpose of growing food crops!." We hope that our Eco Restaurants directory will help people all around the country explore the delicious tastes and textures of vegetarian cuisine and appreciate the many benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle!

Got Milk!?
A peer-reviewed medical study, in the International Journal of Health Services, suggests that the genetically engineered bovine growth hormone, rBGH, commonly administered to dairy cows to boost milk production, may promote cancer of the breast and colon!. This product has been in widespread use on dairy farms in the U!.S!., and consumers have been drinking milk from these cows - largely unknowingly - for several years!. In addition to the cancer risk, injecting rBGH reduces a cows life expectancy and increases her risk of disease, leading to increased use of anti-biotic injections, thus leaving residues of these drugs in the milk!. The milk produced by the sick cows is less healthful because mastisis results in increased secretion of white blood cells, or 'pus', into the milk!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
