Question: I need some help from all you wonderful vegetarians out there!!!!!=)!?
Just today, I became a vegetarian=)
And just to let you know!. I am 15 years old!.
I was a polo-vegetarian for almost a year, but when I finally saw how chickens are horrible treated by people!. I cried and had to stop the video!.
I just told my mom that I'm done with meat!. But still agreed to eat eggs often for a lot of protein!.
So, I really don't like vegetables all that much!. but am trying to get used to eating them!.
I was just wondering if you guys could give me some major food sources for vegetarians!. I really don't know how to stay healthy=/

Thank you sooooooooo much!!!!!!=)

You don't need to worry so much about protein - most Americans get too much of it!. Eggs are a good choice to keep you away from anemia - you'll get protein from beans, nuts and tofu!. Just watch your iron and B12 intake - leafy greens like spinach and romaine lettuce, as well as a good variety of foods will keep you in tip-top shape!. Being vegetarian is actually healthier for you than eating meat if you don't eat only cheese, carbs and junk foods!.

Try marinating tofu in soy sauce before cooking it!. I get the extra-firm variety and cube it to use in stir-frys!. There are plenty of meat substitutes out there if you're not big on veggies (Morningstar Farms, Boca Burgers, etc!.!.!.)!.

Stir-frys are great!. Just cook some white rice (wash the rice under running water in a sieve and put 1 1/2 times water to the amount of rice used - eg 1 cup rice, 1 1/2 cups water - bring it to the boil, then reduce the heat, cover and simmer until the liquid is absorbed)!. I always start by sauteeing some onions in a wok, add a little ginger and garlic (both fresh and chopped)!. Then you just add whatever veggies you want to the wok (firmer veggies like carrots and zucchini before soft ones like bean sprouts), plenty of soy sauce, some rice vinegar, lime juice, whatever else you like!. I've been adding pineapple chunks to my stir-frys for a while for sweetness, also nuts like cashews!. Either serve your stir-fry over your white rice, or just mix the rice in with the rest of your veggies when everything is cooked!. I use enough soy sauce to turn the whole thing a little brown!.

Another thing I would suggest for starting out with veggies is plenty of salads!. Salads can be a little sweet, yet they're packed with nutrients since they have raw veggies in them!. My kids LOVE a broccoli salad we tried at Sweet Tomatoes restaurant!. I've put a link to the recipe in the sources!. Waldorf salads are another good one to snack on (more fruit than veggie though)!. Again, I've put a link in the sources for you, and my little ones LOVE waldorf salad!. There are all kinds of yummy salads to make!. Think of pasta salads (another recipe I made recently that was good is in the sources), things with couscous (super quick and easy to cook), etc!.!.!. Another salad I make is a "summer salad" - mix of greens (romaine, red leaf lettuce, etc!.!.!.), crumble some feta or goat cheese, add some candied walnuts (buy them or make your own), sliced strawberries, and toss the whole thing in a raspberry vinaigrette dressing!. Grapes make a nice and sweet addition to almost ANY salad (just slice them in half and add them in), nuts can give a bit of crunch, you get the idea!.!.!.

For cooked meals, I go with Caribbean-style black beans and coconut rice (its easy - just google it for some recipes) with some fried plantains!. I found a delicious recipe for poblano pepper, mango and black beans (the whole family loves it - even my red-meat husband)!. You can make veggie burgers topped with lots of veggies (romaine lettuce, grilled bell peppers, etc!.!.!.

That should give you a good start!. Congratulations and good luck! More people need to cut back on meat, its unhealthy and a worse environmental no-no than driving around big cars!Www@FoodAQ@Com

What the heck is a polo-vegetarian !?!?!?

If you cried at chickens being treated badly, I hardly think it is suitable to continue eating eggs!. Since chickens that lay eggs (unless organic and free-range) are also treated badly too!.

also eggs are bad for cholesterol levels, you can only safely eat around 2 or 3 per week!.

i'm a vegetarian, and i don't really like vegetables that much either!. but i still eat them, only when they're mixed in with meals!. (:
anyways, if you miss the taste of meat, there is a long line of mock meats!. try Morning Star Farms soy meats!. they're similar to meat in taste with no cruelty!. also try Boca and Garden Burger!. :]Www@FoodAQ@Com

Check out books from the library, or join a yahoo group on vegetarian cooking!. There are a ton of groups and they have recipes and answer questions you may have!. Just keep eating your veggies and in time you may like them more an more!. also, try new things!. I had eggplant and found that I liked it!.!.!.You will be surprised!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

OK I'M NOT VEGETARIAN, but i am in a healthy diet so i use allot of veggies when i cook, there is a really healthy vegetable soup that i make, first blend tomato with onion and garlic, then put water to boil add the blend and add all your favorite vegetables like, potatoes, carrots, spinach, corn on the cob, and broccoli, when the veges are tender add seasoning and if you want there are some tiny pasta that are this small and thin ___ you can find them in the Mexican stores and when the soup is done add cotija cheese witch can also be found in the Mexican isle why i like this soup is because it has all the nutrients in one, i also make a veg burger instead of the meat i use portabella mushrooms, is a pan add one tsp of olive oil put the mushrooms add salt and pepper then use that instead of the meat you can add all the other ingredients that come in a burger, so when ever your going to a party where they will be grilling burgers just take your portabella mushrooms and grill them, and asparagus are good dipping tools, when you go to the store cheek for packets of seasonings that go on veggies, just cut the veggies and follow the instructions in the packet, that gives veggies a good taste!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
