I disagree with some here, a vegetarian does not eat any meat and that can go to any degree (vegans are also vegetarians but vegetarians are not necessarily vegans), I personally don't eat or wear things where an animal was killed, such as gelatin and leather, but am not a vegan!. A vegan does not eat any animal product, and many don't wear animal products, it depends on the reason (animal cruelty or health)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetarians does not eat meat!.
Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin!. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as refined white sugar and some wines!.A vegan diet includes all grains, beans, legumes, vegetables and fruits and the nearly infinite number of foods made by combining and preparing them!.Most vegans also avoid the use of all products tested on animals, as well as animal-derived non-food products, such as leather, fur and wool, whenever possible!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Some vegetarians drink milk, feeling ok about it because the cow does not have to die to share some milk!. Some also eat eggs, even fish, but eat no animal flesh!.
Vegans do not use animal products, nothing that came from an animal!. Some do not even eat honey, because it's made by a creature!. Some will not even wear leather, because it came from a cow's skin!. They don't use gelatin (jello) because the gelatin comes from animals, they won't use certain beauty products that contain any animal products, or were tested on animals!.
So basically, a vegan eats no animal products, only plant foods, and vegetarians live mostly on plant foods, but will eat certain animal products but not the flesh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your friend is mistaken!.
The big difference is that vegetarians don't eat dead animals (meat, slaughter by-products) and vegans don't eat anything of animal origin whatsoever (meat, slaughter by-products, dairy, eggs, honey!.)
Veganism is a lifestyle based on the goal of eliminating animal exploitation and suffering!. In addition to no animal-derived foods, we also don't wear animal fabrics or use consumer goods made with animal ingredients or animal testing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A vegatarian is where you can eat anything but meat or fish!.!.!.but there are different kinds of vegatarians!.Some can be the ones who can eat different kinds of meat,or they could be the ones that just don't eat fish!.A vegan only eats fruits and veggies and organic things!.They don't eat meat, like most vegatarians!.The only different thing is that vegatarians are allowed to eat stuff like ice cream, and vegans can only eat SOY food products and veggies and fruits and beans!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Vegetarians don't eat meat, while vegans go one step further and they don't eat meat or anything an animal produces!. One of the biggest differences between the two is that vegans don't eat any type of dairy product!. You'll usually see them sticking to things like soy as an alternative!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
A vegan is someone who, for various reasons, chooses to avoid using or consuming animal products!. While vegetarians choose not to use flesh foods, vegans also avoid dairy and eggs, as well as fur, leather, wool, down, and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
