Question for Vegetarians...Do you shop at Vegan markets, or do you steer clear of them?!

Question: Question for Vegetarians!.!.!.Do you shop at Vegan markets, or do you steer clear of them!?
I ask this as a Vegetarian myself who is slowly becoming a Vegan!.
Some of the left wing Vegans can be really rude with those of us who are not yet completely Vegan!.
On the same ticket, whole foods markets that sell meat can be rude to Vegetarians!.

Isn't it all starting to get a bit ridiculous in some areas!?
It sure is in many of the So & Central California markets!
Sometimes I just don't want to walk in when i see the hardened left wingers on their bicycles with PETA shirts & invasive questions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Although I haven't went into a Vegan market,
I've had a minor annoyance at a health food store!.!. the cashier was a Vegan and gave me a bit of warning about wearing animal products!.!. she may have thought that my waist bag was leather when it is vinyl but leather look! Her boss did hear here and said to her Keep your Vegan Ideas to yourself!.!. your here to help customers not to offend them! Next time I came to that health store that same cashier pointed me to the other cashier! I saw a side on her till
saying: Vegans Only! The other cashier said the Vegan cashier was Pisces!
Nitpickers are ridiculous no matter what they pick on! When some meat eaters find out I'm a vegetarian they call me everything from schizo to gay! Some meat eaters give a remark when they see me eating eggs and say"Your not vegetarian, eggs are not a plant!" Then they try to push meat on me! One even offered to buy me a burger! I refused it of course! The most important isn't Protein and Calcium unless you severely lack that! Most Important is Iron and certain Enzymes!. If you eat a varied diet including fruits you don't need to worry about that!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I lived in Southern California for a lot of years and, in my experience, anyway, rude customer service is the rule rather than the exception!. It's not like that everywhere!.

We have a small vegan market here and I was wearing a leather belt the first time I ever went in there!. Nobody said a thing about me not being vegan or vegan enough!. I even had my meat-eating boyfriend with me and he asked a bunch of dumb questions, which they answered fairly patiently (and believe me, he can be a pain in the backside when he wants to be!.)

Nor have I ever experienced rudeness at Whole Foods for being a vegetarian!. Then again, I can't fathom why anyone at Whole Foods would necessarily need to know that you're vegetarian to begin with!.

Maybe you're being overly sensitive!? You don't owe either meat eaters or "left wing vegans" any sort of explanation of your personal dietary choices!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have never been to a vegan market!. There is none around here!. I'd like to go to one to try it out!. Lol, yes I agree that is a bit ridiculous with the PETA shirts, BUT everyone needs to respect vegans just as they would to vegetarians!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've never had that problem even when I was a vegetarian! And when I went to a food whole market the other day and the ladie was very kind and was showing me all kinds of vegan foods!Www@FoodAQ@Com

well I go once and a while but it is so exspensive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know how you feel!. When you are just a vegetarian then you have vegans who think that they are better than you because you only gave up meat but they also gave up dairy and eggs!. I am a vegan and I don't have an attitude towards vegetarians!. My husband is a vegetarian but does not want to become a vegan even though I told him that dairy cows and chickens are the worst treated animals!. I will go to the health food store for certain things!. I get my rice milk there, I will get an alternative ice cream called Rice Dream which is so delicious!. I also get a canned chili that is delicious and is, of course, vegan!. They say that Whole Foods is a great place for vegans to shop but it is expensive!. It really isn't hard to be a vegan!. I have no problem with it but then I am not a fussy eater at all!. I shop in the regular food store!. You just have to do your research!. The are so many foods that vegans can eat!. I eat so healthy and I think that it makes food taste so much better!. You just have to read labels!. Look for dairy and egg ingredients!. also, whey and casein come from dairy!. Congrats on joining the vegetarian/vegan family!. I find that meat eaters are rude to vegetarians!. They just think that we are weird!. They just don't know anything about being a vegetarian so instead they make fun of it!. As a vegetarian I don't put down meat eaters!. To each his own!. I tell people to go on meat!.com and look at the video and then get back to me!. After watching it you look at meat very differently!. I love being a vegan!. It makes me feel good that I am not contributing to animal cruelty and I wish that a lot more people would become vegans!. Besides the moral issue it is also an extremely healthy diet as long as you are getting all of the nutrients you need!. The most important are Calcium and Protein!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

LOL I'm a vegan and I have had another vegan at a health food store badger me about how I was wearing leather shoes (for the record they weren't leather but of synthetic material, he just had a stick up his rear)!.

You'll find judgemental, mean people everywhere!. Even I find myself saying mean stuff!. Even you just said some pretty finger-pointing, heavy comments ("on their bicycles with PETA shirts"), or even assuming all vegans are left-wingers!.

Don't worry about the nay-sayers, sometimes people are just in the mood to tear someone else down!. If you're doing all you can, that's fine!. I usually just have a problem with people that knowledgably choose to do nothing about their impact on animal suffering, but I acknowledge and respect that 90%+ of the population has no idea about the basics of factory farming, and the vegetarians that still eat eggs or dairy are doing far more than the general public as it is, though sometimes my own inside information on diary and eggs frustrates me so much I want to "share" it with vegetarians!. But I have learned to practice non-confrontation!.

But yes I do continue to avoid the store that I was accosted by that vegan at, and now I shop at two other ones in it's place!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your question turned into a bit of a rant, but here's goes!. We don't have any vegan markets around were I live!. We have health food stores (that don't carry much food), and farmers markets!. We have one food coop that I guess you could call vegan since they don't carry meat, dairy or cheese, but I have seen native honey in there!. My parents and I shop mostly at the big box markets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in Southern California and am a vegetarian going on vegan, so I'm not completely vegan yet!. So far I haven't experienced any negative attitudes towards me, and I'm hoping it stays that way!. But most vegan markets are actually very friendly!. I sent my mom to one so she could buy me some vegan stuff, and she's about as carnivorous as you can get, yet they were very helpful and showed her some different products they had!. But if there were left wing vegans around sporting PETA shirts, I would steer clear as well!. And about the whole food markets that sell meat, yes some of them have been a little rude towards me!. One guy actually made fun of me for being a vegetarian when I didn't even say a word to him!. I don't like to preach vegetarianism, but I sure don't like meat eaters preaching to me either! Well hope I helped!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
