How can I learn to eat beans?!

Question: How can I learn to eat beans!?
I hate the taste and texture of beans!.!.!.!.!.all of them!. Once in a while I can take a bite of refried beans or eat Hummus on pita bread, but I can't seem to get myself to eat beans without gagging!. I would really like to move toward a more vegetarian diet, but I can't just eat Tofu all the time! I've tried beans in soup, in burritos, and as part of a curry!. Still, I gag anytime I put a bean in my mouth!. Especially kidney beans! Any ideas for teaching myself to eat beans!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had the SAME problem, but when I married my hubby, I decided I needed to learn to like beans, since they're his favorite!. Plus, they're so healthy! SO, here's what I did:
Start small-try black bean burgers, or cooking a small amount of beans in something like burritos with lots of other stuff to hide the beans!. Gradually increase the amount of beans in your diet, and before you know it, you'll be eating them by the bowl full!! By the way-I find black beans the least offensive!. Here's a recipe that helped me: http://www!.marthastewart!.com/portal/site!.!.!.

You could try starting with chili con carne!. The flavor is pretty strong (if it's prepared properly) and may mask the presence of the beans for you!. You could even start out with chili with very few beans, and slowly cut down the meat and add more beans!.
If you particularly dislike kidney beans, make the chili with some other beans you dislike less!. Almost any medium-size bean will do!.
Another possibility is the Southern French classic cassoulet, made with fava beans (and lots of other ingredients!.) Or you might like something like couscous, which mixes chickpeas with couscous (semolina!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

no, get over your preconceptions, since Tofu tastes and has a completely diffent texture than what some think of standard beans, and by itself there are a dozen diferent textures and flavors!. then there are other textured soy protienes, and fake meats left and right that if you didn't know better you wouldn't be able to tell they are made from beans!.

people don't go vegitarian because of the wonderful tasting food usually, they do it for ethical/health reasons!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have the opposite problem!. I like beans but I can't stand tofu!. I guess the answer for both of us is to keep trying them prepared in different ways!. That's what I plan to do!. I haven't given up on tofu and you shouldn't give up on beans!.

Just try them in every way possible and maybe you will find a way to stand them!. You could even grind some up, sweeten them, and bake them into cookies!. You never know until you try it!.

Good luck and I hope you find a way to like them!. Even if you never like them you don't need to eat too many to retain their nutritional value!. 1/4 cups of beans is VERY nutritious!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Love the name!. My daughter is named Heather and I think it is the most beautiful name in the world!. :-) I love beans so being Vegan isn't hard for me since they make a large part of my diet!. Some beans taste better than eithers!. They are healthy because they have so much protein!. Mix them with rice!. Put some flavoring on them!. After a while I think that you will just get used to them!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Maybe you can mix the beans with other foods such as rice, eggs, macoroni, or other foods!. Try to out-taste the beans :)

Don't use a lot of beans though, use just a little bit!.!. Maybe you'll start getting used to the taste, and you'll start to like them! :)

Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
