this is just what i do, what about you!? do you tell people straight up or avoid it like me!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I am the same way!. I resist telling people because in my experience omnivores get all defensive as soon as you say you're a vegetarian!. As if you chose the diet to attack theirs, as if you became vegetarian just to hold something over their head!.

I just say "No thanks" if someone offers me animal food!. I wait until they drag it out of me!.

Plus I can do without hearing all the moronic defensiveness that I never asked to here, but always comes out as soon as you tell an omnivore you are a vegetarian!.

"Yeah, but we're higher on the food chain!" etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I tend to avoid announcing it to people also!.!.!. I have been a vegetarian since I was in elementary school so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me at all, just the way I have always been!.!.!. and after you tell people you end up having to explain your reasoning which gets old!.

If it comes up, like during a meal I tell people!.!.!. I know what you mean though about the proud vegetarian type!.!.!. always announcing it and making others feel bad about what they eat!. And that's not me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

usually, as long as i have a reason for it!. i am proud of it, but i wouldnt want to just say, "guess, what, i'm a vegetarian!" and have the other person be all confused like, "ok, great but we were talking about homework!." so pretty much if it's relevant yes, but i wouldn't bring it up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I personaly don't bring it up untill it is relevent!. I will politley argue animal rights issues (me being veg usualy comes up) and stuff, but I don't generaly walk up to people and say hello there, I'm a vegan, what's your name!? I don't hide it, but I don't flaunt it either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sometimes I tell sometimes I don't!. Just depends!. I think that you should let people know that your proud of who you are!. That's all it is it's apart of what makes you, you!. I mean you don't have to say it to everyone you know but like if someone asks you plain about your self or something you could tell them then!. I don't think you should avoid it but you don't need to preach it either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I bring it up when (a) food comes up randomly (b) I'm getting to know someone or (c) someone asks! Then if people ask more about it, I'll tell them, but I don't say "hey I'm Tiffany and I don't eat meat!"!. I don't avoid talking about it, but being vegetarian is just one small part of me, not my whole identity :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

um!.!.!.!. i did like about a year ago (ive been a vegitarian for 2 years) but once people started bothering me about it i stopped, i know what you mean, it gets really annoying, but sometimes you have to tell people and then deal with the stupid comments, i wish people would realize that no we don't miss meat and if we ate it we'd probably die of guilt!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not really, unless it comes up!. If I'm repeatedly offered something nonvegan, yeah, I'm gonna say something!. A coworker of mine makes baked goods a lot, so obviously I told her so she's not offended that I always decline!. :P

If someone (who doesn't know I'm a vegan) offers to make dinner or go out to eat, I'll mention it!. Or if I meet another vegan, of course I'll tell 'em!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it's really necessary!. Like if someone I just knew offers me to go to a fast food chain that offers ZERO vegan food, I'd say I can't since I dont eat meat!. What I really hate about telling people that I'm vegan is that I hate explaining myself about what it is and how do I get nutrients blah blah blah!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes i tell people all the time! i do the whole meat is murder but its only in a joking way and everyone who knows me knows that!.!.!.!.!.but no i dont broadcast it to just any random person and i hate when people ask me how long or what if i snuck you meant!.!.!.!.!.errr!.!.!.!. thats mostly why i dont tell people because they ask stupid questions!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'll only tell if I have to, everytime I tell someone I'm a vegetarian, I get bombarded with a 1000 questions!. Then for a week afterwards the same question is repeated constantly, "Are you sure you don't miss steak!?"Www@FoodAQ@Com

I always wait until it comes up!. I don't bring it up!. If someone is cooking dinner, I will bring it up, but I always feel bad because no one gets how to cook for a vegan!. Give me raw nuts and berries and I am a happy vegan!Www@FoodAQ@Com

omg i am thee exact same way!.
i always think that they will think im better then them or something cause i don't eat meat!. so i usually wait teill they say want a hotdog or something thats meat!.
or i just say oh im not hungry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, because if i go out pple are going asking why I am always eating salads and stuff!. I am very proud to tell them I am vegetarian!. But i do not give many explanations 'cause usually pple do not want to understand!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i tell everybody!.!.!.you should see my myspace, its full of videos on animal cruelty, and all my blogs are about it!. i am trying to get more ppl to go veg, its not for my gloryWww@FoodAQ@Com

i wait until it needs to come up!. like if a friend and i go out to eat ill tell her but i dont tell ppl that im veg!. like rite when i meet themWww@FoodAQ@Com

I will announce it if I am talking about health & nutrition!. But that's because low qualities meat and large amounts of meat is bad for the health!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, they recognize!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am not a vegetarian!.!.!.I personally find it interesting when someone shares a lifestyle choice with me!. I have several friends that are and it really is no big deal!. I'd say if it is a person you want to get to know, share this important part of your life!. If they know ahead of time it saves the embarrassment of a host that has nothing for you to eat (I always want to be accommodating to my guests!) If it isn't a person you want to get to know, it is none of their business!. If a person is going to judge you by what you eat (or don't eat) then forget them!. You also don't have to find it your mission to 'convert' everyone you meet either!. If they ask questions, answer them! If they don't!.!.!.go on with your life!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm with you sister!
I don't bring up my veganism unless I just have to - like if someone is cooking for me and they are not aware!. Otherwise, I keep it to myself!. I too am very proud of being a vegan, but I live in an area with a lot of narrow-minded individuals!. If I'm not totally surrounded by friends and familiar faces, I would much rather not open up that subject for discussion!.
I also hate going out to eat and looking like the "picky" girl!. I don't mean to cause trouble or make people go out of their way for me!. I sometimes hate the attention/questions/comments/ignorance that I get from the peanut gallery!. I try to avoid it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
