Answers:
Neither vegans nor vegetarians eat meat!. And technically, all vegans are also vegetarians, but vegans go further in that they also don't eat animal byproducts like dairy products, eggs, or honey!.
As for why somebody decided to become a vegan instead of just a vegetarian, there could be some reasons!. A good friend of mine is vegan!. He actually chose to become a vegan because he didn't like milk or eggs!.
Vegetarians can get complete proteins from dairy and eggs!. Vegans generally have to combine multiple protein sources to get complete proteins, so it's trickier!.
Personally, I'm not a vegan!.
Potatoes are not as healthy as brown rice because they have a higher glycemic index which increases your blood sugar and your risk for diabetes!. Brown rice has more fiber, protein, fats and flavor than white rice does!.
Honestly, I think that both collared greens and spinach are healthy!. I prefer the taste of raw spinach, but collared greens are pretty good!. I think both are pretty high in iron and folic acid which most people don't get enough of!.
Sweetpeas are legumes whereas corn is a grain!. Sweetpeas have more protein, but they are both pretty healthy, I think!.
Gatoraid has more calories than water, but it also has electrolytes (salt) that you lose when you sweat!. Sometimes when people exercise, they replace the water without replacing the electrolytes which can actually be bad for you!. More healthy is smart water which is just water with electrolytes!. Of course, if you like the taste of gatorade enough, it can still be an option!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Vegan comes as a subset of Vegetarian!. Vegetarian is basically veg-based diet, but also includes milk!. (Since milk is not a product arising out of a killing of the animal)!. Egg is also considered "Vegetarian" by certain groups of people!. Vegan is not inclusive of egg and milk!.
The reason being, the concept of vegetarianism is predominantly based out of religious belief, or it is carried over thru the generations!. The vegetarian society in India is mostly Lacto-vegetarian because of this!. Cow is considered as a sacred animal, and often compared to mother!. That is why Cow's milk is taken!. This doesnt harm the animal as well!.
Whereas, The concept of "Vegan" excludes the milk and milk products, considering that it is an animal product!. The concept is developed out of the compassionate feeling towards animals, rather than religious beliefs or family values carried thru the generations!. !.!. They usually take their decision by their own conscience!. Hence, Vegans are obviously more strict in their beliefs!.
That is the difference!.
For your additional information:
Both these are far away from the Jain culture though!. The Jain food is one step ahead, with an exclusion of all animal products including milk and eggs, and also all plant products which are derived from the root!. (Thinking that, excavating the root would harm the life of that plant!.)!. That is a total stay-away from killing of any live being including plants!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
